Jose Yumang Sonza (born September 20, 1955), also known as Jay Sonza, is a Filipino former newscaster and talk show host. He was the former station manager of the terrestrial television station UNTV from 2004 to 2009.

Controversies

In August 2023, Sonza was arrested for illegal recruitment. Sonza was on his supposed scheduled flight in route to Hong Kong on July 18, when immigration officials intercepted him at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3. It later found out that his flight was blocked, when they discovered that he has a pending case for estafa. His arrest was later confirmed on August 15 by the Assistant Director of the National Bureau of Investigation, Glenn Ricarte; he subsequently transferred to the custody of National Bureau of Investigation where he was detained at the Quezon City Quarantine Facility Jail in August 3.

Political career

In 2004, Jay filed his candidacy for Senator under Aksyon Demokratiko. He lost in the said elections but became the head of UNTV the year after his electoral loss.

In 2007, he was one of the nominees of BATAS party-list. In 2010, he filed his candidacy for the Vice President for the 2010 election. He ran under the Kilusang Bagong Lipunan but lost.
