Eileen O'Neill Burke born in either 1966 or 1967, is the current State's Attorney for Cook County, Illinois, United States. Prior to serving as State's Attorney, O'Neill Burke was a Justice in the First District of the Illinois Appellate Court (2016 - 2023) and a Judge in the Circuit Court of Cook County (2008 - 2016).

O'Neill Burke began her term as Cook County State's Attorney on December 1, 2024. O'Neill Burke appointed Hon. Anna H. Demacopoulos (Ret.) to serve as First Assistant State's Attorney.

During her first few days in office, O'Neill Burke implemented numerous policy changes. Those policy changes include a mandate for Assistant State's Attorney's (ASAs) to file a petition for pretrial detention for every defendant charged with murder or a violent Class X felony, which includes aggravated arson, aggravated battery of a child, aggravated kidnapping, aggravated vehicular hijacking, armed robbery, home invasion and solicitation of murder. Additionally, ASAs must file a petition for detention for defendants charged with detainable felonies while using or possessing a firearm, domestic violence involving a weapon, sex offenses involving victims under 13 years old, and possession of Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM).

Personal Life

O'Neill Burke has been married to her husband John, a law school classmate, for 34 years. The couple has four children.
