Rami Abu Shihab (born 25 July 1974) is a Palestinian-Jordanian writer and academic critic specializing in literary criticism, cultural studies and post-colonial discourse.

Early life and education

Shihab was born in 1974 in Jordan, seven years after the Naksa, the displacement of Palestinians following the Six-Day War. He completed his primary and secondary education in Jordan, and earned a bachelor's degree in Arabic Language and Literature from Mutah University, where he developed an early appreciation for the role of language in exploring identity and addressing marginalization.

  • 2014 Sheikh Zayed Book Award for Permanence and Deception: Post-Colonial Discourse in the Contemporary Arab Criticism. The award committee stated that the book represents a new step in tracing the impact of postcolonial studies on the landscape of contemporary Arab criticism.
