    Elias Hossain Bengali: ইলিয়াস হোসেন, a renowned Bangladeshi journalist famous for his fearless investigative reporting on corruption and abuse of power, became a prominent voice for accountability in Bangladesh. His relentless pursuit of truth ultimately forced him into exile in the USA.

    Early Life and Education

    Elias Hossain was born in Khaspara a small village, now under Darshana Thana in Chuadanga District, western part of Bangladesh. From an early age, he demonstrated a strong passion for justice and transparency that ultimately defined his journey in journalism, despite he pursued his education in English Literature.

    Career:

    Elias Hossain began his career as a journalist in ETV a reputed private television channel in Bangladesh. “Ekusher Chokh” an investigative program where he used to reflect all the unfair means of the society, that quickly establishing himself as a most popular crime reporter. He focused on exposing corruption, human rights violations, and injustices in the country.

    Elias was in Ekusher Chokh in 2014

    Over the time, Elias’s work gained widespread attention for his commitment to truth. He tackled stories that many others avoided, bringing hidden issues to light and holding powerful individuals accountable. His dedication to investigative journalism earned him a significant following and respect within the media community.

    Exile in USA:

    During the Awami League's rule in Bangladesh, Elias's investigative report increasingly focused on government corruption, abductions, extrajudicial killings, and abuses of power. His fearless journalism made him a prime target of the government and has filed numerous cases against him and sentenced him to jail.

    In 2015, due to escalating threats to his safety, Elias was forced to flee Bangladesh and seek refuge in the United States. His decision to live in exile marked a turning point in his career. Despite the physical distance, Elias continued to utilize social platforms, such as YouTube and Facebook, to expose critical issues in Bangladesh. His relentless commitment to truth ensured that his voice remained influential while in exile.

    Contribution in movement for Democracy in 2024

    Elias Hossain, alongside Dr. Mushfiqul Fazal Ansarey, Pinaki Bhattacharya, and Kanak Sarwar, played a vital role in igniting public sentiment against Sheikh Hasina's government. Their collective efforts brought an end to over a decade of autocratic rule under Sheikh Hasina. On August 5, 2024, following massive student-led demonstrations and nationwide public protests, Sheikh Hasina resigned from her position and fled the country.

    As a result, on August 8, 2024, an interim government was established under the leadership of Nobel Laureate Dr. Muhammad Yunus.
