When panicked passengers jumped off the train after seeing the Pushpak Express on fire, they were hit by the Bengaluru Express coming from the opposite direction.

On 22 January 2024 , Pushpak Express was travelling from Lucknow to Mumbai. A fire broke out in the coach, causing panic. Rumours spread that a fire had broken out in the coach between Maheji and Pardad stations in Maharashtra. Some people pulled the emergency chain to stop the train. Later, when the passengers jumped off the train and got down on the nearby track, they were hit by the Bengaluru Express coming from the opposite direction.
Reactions
The Ministry of Railways (India) announced an ex gratia of Rs 1.5 lakh each to the kin of the deceased, Rs 50,000 for grievous wounds and Rs 5,000 for simple injuries.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi sent his condolences to the families of the passengers who were killed and wished for a fast recovery of the injured people. Also the Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw also sent condolences.
