Parthasarathy Swami Sabha is the first Carnatic Music Sabha in South India. It is located in Bheemasena Garden Road in Mylapore, Chennai.

History

Mani Thirumalachariar formed the Sangeeta Vidwat Sabha in the 1896 to foster Musical activities. In 1900 this sabha was renamed to Parthasarathy Swami Sabha. The primary activity of this sabha, during the initial years, were Hari Kathas. Stalwarts of music like Muttiah Bhagavathar, Krishna Bhagavathar, Poochi Srinivasa Iyengar and the list goes on. Ariyakudi Ramanuja Iyengar has given over 100 performances in this sabha.

Awards and Recognition

The sabha conducts two music festivals every year. One in February and the other in December as part of the Margazhi Festival or more popularly the December Music Season. It honours the best artiste with the title Sangeetha Kala Sarathy. Besides patronising musicians the sabha also encourages Dramatics by giving the title Nataka Kala Sarathy.

By Bus

The Sabha is about 1 KM from the Mylapore Tank Bus stop to the north of the Tank.

The sabha is about 1 KM to the north of the Thirumylai MRTS station. The Thirumylai MRTS station is located close to the Mylapore Tank Bus Stop.
