Robert Emmet's Slaughtneil GAC Éiméid Leacht Néill) is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in Slaughtneil. The club is a member of the Derry GAA. Underage teams play in the South Derry league and championships. They currently cater for Gaelic football, Hurling and Camogie. The club is named after Irish patriot and revoltuionary Robert Emmet. The club plays home games at Emmet Park.
The club famously pulled its football and hurling teams out of the 1981 Derry Football Championship and Derry Hurling Championship to show their support and solidarity with the 1981 Irish Hunger Strikers.
Football
Slaughtneil fields Gaelic football teams at U8, U10, U12, U14, U16, Minor, Reserve, Thirds and Senior levels. They won their first senior county championsip in 2006 a remarkable feat for such a small club
Hurling
Slaughtneil fields Hulring teams at U8, U10, U12, U14, U16, Minor, Reserve, and Senior levels.Slaughtneil have numerous senior hurling championships.
Camogie
Slaughtneil fields Camogie teams at U12, U14, U16, Minor, and Senior levels.
Famous Players
Famous Players for Slaughtneil include Jim Kelly, Paul Bradley, Patsy Bradley, Michael and Padraig Kelly And Emmet Burns who have all represented Derry football at senior level. Emmet Burns captining Derry to All Ireland succes in 1993. Antoin McMullan a renowned hurler has captined club and county, winning 5 all irelands with Derry and 8 all ireland club titles with Slaughtneil. He is famous for his perfected "Micky Glass" swivel which has fooled Diarmuid O'Sullivan on numerous occasions
