R E T I R E D
P.S. To those who don't know why I've decided to leave, I'll tell you. During my time here, I've been the subject of ageist comments, political attacks, I've been accused of being a sockpuppet several times, the most recent being today, for just trying to help out, I have been yelled at for not assuming good faith, while the yeller didn't assume good faith, and many more things. I have also been accused of copyvio, which is ridiculous. I take copyright laws very seriously, and I would never violate them. I would never do anything to hurt Misplaced Pages, and as a Catholic, I am hurt by the fact that people believe I have lied to destroy other people's work. I cannot continue being part of a community if not every one is willing to be a community. Eddie 17:16, 8 July 2007 (UTC)

RE: The duck names Howard
It's okay I wasn't saying you bit him, just that blocking him might be biting, so it was a comment directed more at the admin who would (I feel) have been in the wrong for blocking him, rather than you. Keep up the good stuff.... I recognise your userpage I think I've spoken to you before, something to do with Tony the Marine perhaps? I can't remember. SGGH 16:44, 3 July 2007 (UTC)

Thank you. :-) It's not an outstanding pic, but it's certainly better than the red link I found this morning. Best regards, Húsönd 22:12, 3 July 2007 (UTC)

My talk page
I blank my talk page for issues that are no longer pending. Edit my page one more time and I'll consider it vandalism. --Pasajero 23:00, 3 July 2007 (UTC)
- Actually I was talking about your reverts every time I blank my page (unless in case of obvious vandalism by other users). --Pasajero 23:09, 3 July 2007 (UTC)
WP:TALK#User_talk_pages
You have no right to prohibit what Misplaced Pages allows. Just keep that in mind. --Pasajero 23:16, 3 July 2007 (UTC)
- Misplaced Pages allows users to blank their own talk page therefore you have no right to revert such an edit. By doing so you are imposing your own rules contrary to those of Misplaced Pages. --Pasajero 23:22, 3 July 2007 (UTC)
- Read WP:REVERT under "Do" & "Do not". --Pasajero 23:25, 3 July 2007 (UTC)
- "Discouraging the blanking talk pages" is not the same thing as prohibiting it. Your claim of "bad faith" on my part is just a matter of bad timing. I had maintained my talk page intact for quite some time and just recently (not even a month ago) decided to blank it. If you want to keep on believing that I'm trying to hide something then that's your choice. With regards to the images, if they meet Misplaced Pages's criteria for deletion then so be it. --Pasajero 23:37, 3 July 2007 (UTC)
- Since I can't provide proof they have been released into the public domain their copyright status has been corrected. Most likely they can all be replaced by free images so it wouldn't be wrong to assume that they meet the criteria for deletion. --Pasajero 23:44, 3 July 2007 (UTC)

RfB mania! :)
Actually, dear Eddie, there were 6 RfBs today for a while, before Majorly stepped down ;) Trust me, nobody, and I do mean nobody, had ever seen anything like that, ever. It certainly proves that the community has changed its opinion that we didn't need more bureaucrats, and I believe some of our senior members, who had been holding of for a while exactly for that reason, understood this change in the general perception and decided this was the best time to run for it. I'm convinced that we will get at least two, maybe three new bureaucrats from this process, which will satisfy our needs for at least a whole year, if not more. Don't forget to have your say at all of them! :) Love you, and have a beautiful 4th of July, amigo mio! Phaedriel - 18:04, 4 July 2007 (UTC)

for the revert and the barnstar. I've experienced a lot of user page vandalism, had a couple of attack pages dedicated to me and a fan who thinks enough of me to give me a specific mention on his user page, but this is the first time someone created an account in my, er, "honor". No problem. My comments were perhaps a bit of a harsh overreaction. I'd suggest spending a little more time examining the history and context of an article before immediately tagging it for CSD. older ≠ wiser 03:53, 7 July 2007 (UTC)

No sweat. We should all take time to do the same to other fair use images, since most are currently being deleted for missing a fair-use rationale. Otherwise, we'll end up losing all those images. - Mtmelendez 12:34, 7 July 2007 (UTC)
Hey there
I don't know what happened, but "this too shall pass" is probably a valid analysis. You were helpful to me, and I sincerely hope that you do return after your Wikibreak. I commend you for taking a break rather than escalating anything, but, try not to be so hard on yourself!--Xnuala (talk)(Review) 12:35, 7 July 2007 (UTC)
Dear Eddie
Dear Eddie, I don't know exactly what led you to take this decision, but let me tell you, I understand how you're feeling, and therefore it is with sadness that I have complied with your wishes. Please, however, if you request an unblock after meditating a little, know that I'll grant it without thinking it twice.
In the time we've talked, and shared, I've grown very fond of your presence, and I deeply admire all the excellent work you've done to make others feel appreciated, while not distracting yourself from the goal of building our project. No matter what's saddening you now, know that it will pass, dear Eddie - the importance of this encyclopedia is far greater than any of us individually, something that I see you understand; and in this bigger picture, you have a great role. You've become an excellent member of our community, and that's something we all know, and value, and we're grateful beyond words to you. Smile, friend; know we love you, and respect you. I'll be waiting for you to come back... and the sooner, the better. Love, Phaedriel - 12:44, 7 July 2007 (UTC)
- I agree completely with Phaedriel. Please feel better about yourself and your contributions to Misplaced Pages, and if you ever want to discuss anything, feel free to leave me a note. Regards, Newyorkbrad 13:26, 7 July 2007 (UTC)
- Thank you for your kind words. Yours sincerely, Eddie 17:51, 7 July 2007 (UTC)

- For anyone interested, it's messages like this that made me take this break. I let him down. Eddie 18:08, 7 July 2007 (UTC)
- If anyone's reading this, someone just vandalized Jessica (given name). Please revert. Eddie 18:13, 7 July 2007 (UTC)
- Phaedriel, I just read WP:BLOCK (again) and I read that self-requested blocks are against policy. I didn't mean for you to violate policy. Please unblock me. I'll use Wikibreak enforcer instead. Thanks anyway! Eddie 18:20, 7 July 2007 (UTC)

User:E
Hi there;l My comment at User:E's RfA was in no sense meant to be critical, and please accept my apologies if that is hoe it came across. You may note that I have changed my !vote on the RfA inquestion to approve.
An ongoing, persisting and universal probleb on[REDACTED] is that it is not possible to indicate intonation on talk pages, and it is therefore easy to take offence where none was intended. I have no solution to this problem; I only ask editors to be aware of it, and to be generous in their interpretation of comments posted to them. --Anthony.bradbury 23:40, 7 July 2007 (UTC)
Wiki hurt
A statement, just for the record and for your information; I do not accept that in your involvement in[REDACTED] you have been in any way harmful to the project. I say this as one who spends about five hours daily here, and can find no evidence of damage. I hope to see you back soon. --Anthony.bradbury 23:45, 7 July 2007 (UTC)
Intonation
No problem. I was just making the point, which you must surely already be aware of, that in communication by typed word only it is frighteningly easy to convey the wrong impression. --Anthony.bradbury 23:50, 7 July 2007 (UTC)
Mess up
Sure, you have at times messed up. At times I both as an editor and as an admin have messed up. We all make mistakes, and so long as we learn fronm them all is well. The important thing with mistakes is to learen from them, move on from them, and not to pointlessly agonise over them. IO have made mistakes, both as an editor and as an admin. But this works for me. --Anthony.bradbury 00:01, 8 July 2007 (UTC)

Please reconsider
Eddie, I don't believe we have really interacted much before but please let me be the first person to ask you to reconsider your retirement. I have noticed you around Misplaced Pages on numerous occasions and have always been impressed with your politeness and overall attitude. We all make mistakes in life, on Misplaced Pages and elsewhere, and we learn from them and become better as a result. You are most certainly not damaging Misplaced Pages more than you are helping it. Lots of people appreciate your hard work here, even if they don't always get a chance to tell you that. If you still decide to leave, I wish you all the best in the future, but I really hope that you will reconsider. Your efforts here are valued, and you will certainly be missed if you do go. Very best regards. Will (aka Wimt) 16:00, 8 July 2007 (UTC)
- Hey Eddie! I saw the exchange on the Che Guevara talk page--they were accusing you of being a sock of Ed Poor!?! If you check into the history of Ed Poor, he was a former bureaucrat here, with quite a distinguished history (whether you agree with his actions or not, he definitely has made an impact on Misplaced Pages)! You could take a look at Misplaced Pages:Requests for arbitration/Ed Poor for more information. I would definitely take that accusation with a grain of salt, if not a whole saltshaker's worth. In any case, it sounds like you have been deeply hurt by some of the things people have said to you here, and for that I am saddened. I do applaud your judgement however, in that if Misplaced Pages is causing you stress and pain, then it is probably a good thing for you to instead focus on things that make you happy. I'd like it if you didn't decide to retire forever though, and would be happy to welcome you back if and when the time comes.--Xnuala (talk)(Review) 17:28, 8 July 2007 (UTC)

Please, if you do eventually retire, stay close to me and my RfA seeing you were the nominator. Don't go anywhere near trouble or conflict - I've been there, but lucky to escape soon enough before it got to me. My dear Eddie
Sweet friend, after thinking carefully all day all the many things I wish to tell you, I've come to the conclusion that I simply can't do so for everyone to see, even our friends. Therefore, I'll be emailing you in the next hours, and hopefully we can get to talk by Gmail. Meanwhile, know this: the silliness of one person, acussing you unfairly, is nothing in the context of the fantastic work you've done, of all the effort you've put into making others feel appreciated and valued, of your patience, your kindness, your dedication... your love for this project. You have not failed us; if anything, we've failed you, by not letting you know how much your presence is needed. I hope it's not too late. I'll see you at your mailbox, and please, please don't be sad - you're too valuable to feel down over this. Love, Phaedriel - 09:35, 9 July 2007 (UTC)
My friend Eddie
You made me laugh when commented my "Pa'l carajo", but now I find that you are "retiring". Look, Eddie we need excellent contributors like you here so, do not let a minor skirmish get you down. Let me tell you something, recently I went through a situation here and I was even stripped of my admin powers, I was about to retire myself, but I found out that there were more users in the community that were my friends then I ever thought possible.
I found out that my contributions in Misplaced Pages are helping to change the negative impression that people have of Puerto Ricans. People from all walks of life have congartulated me for my work, including Historians, Politicians and the Pentagon. What I'm trying to tell you is to do what you were doing best in Misplaced Pages. Do what gave you pleasure. It is people like you that we need here, to help educate others.
Of course you may have had some problems, but that is what we your friends are here for, to help you solve these problems. Reconsider your retirement and I will be by your side when ever you need me. Tony the Marine 00:23, 10 July 2007 (UTC)
- Wow, its a shame man I personally believe that your contributions are certainly of great value here, it was especially good having the project newsletter in my talk page when I came back from my break, today Misplaced Pages lost a great Puerto Rican and a great editor, though I can undestand your choice and I respect it, I sincerely wish you the best of luck in life, Peace. -凶 04:42, 10 July 2007 (UTC)
- I'm very sad that you decided to leave and even more sadder with the fact that there are less of us to make Misplaced Pages a better place. Sometimes we're just so blinded by creating an encyclopedia that we lose track of civility. Sure, everyone quotes WP:AGF and WP:CIVIL but really, how many people even follow it? How many people even bother to take it to the next level and "love their neighbors as themselves"? Another editor has passed from us, but the rest of us must make an effort to uphold the community. bibliomaniac15 05:19, 10 July 2007 (UTC)

<It basically said "you stole that image from the Baseball Hall of Fame site", which is not true.>
Sorry man! But rules are rules...--Cerejota 06:29, 11 July 2007 (UTC)
- 1) It is not enough to provide a fair use rationale, but the rationale must fit the allowed ones. None of the rationale you provided do. Please re-read WP:NFC, and it should become clear.
- 2) I am not implying you *stole* the image. Please cool down. I am saying your fair use rationale is not a good one. No one owns content in wikipedia, and simply doing housekeeping cannot be taken as a personal attack, and since we always assume good faith, and you have no reason to believe otherwise in my case, you cannot possibly construe malice on my part. There is none.
- 3) WP:DTTR is an opinion essay, not a policy or guideline. I disagree with it, because it creates an artificial separation between editors, so I am under no obligation to follow it.
- 4) Why are you responding in such a hostile manner?
--Cerejota 13:50, 11 July 2007 (UTC)
- Eddie, you seem to be confusing something: labeling an image non-free for reasons of copyright doesn't mean that I am accusing you of violating the law: Misplaced Pages is not a moot court. If you cannot take my word for it, please ask an administrator with experience in these things. Perhaps even Jimbo Wales himself. What I do care about is[REDACTED] including non-free images that might hold us liable when someone exercises the commercial rights allowed under GFDL.
