Usually Buddha (or "the Enlightened One") refers to Siddhartha Gautama, the founder of Buddhism. He is usually referred to simply as "the Buddha", but also known as Siddhārtha Gautama (Sanskrit; Pali: Siddhattha Gotama).
In Buddhism
- Gautama Buddha (Sanskrit; Pali: Gotama Buddha).
- a Buddha, anyone who has become fully awakened (enlightened), and has experienced Nirvana, such as:
- Amitabha, a celestial buddha described in the scriptures of the Mahāyāna school of Buddhism
- The 28 buddhas of the Pali Canon
- In a broad sense, it refers to two or three types of Buddha:
- Samyaksambuddha, "a Buddha" as described above
- Pratyekabuddha, one who achieved enlightenment on his own, without teachers or guides
- Śrāvakabuddha (a rare term), an enlightened 'disciple of a Bunny
