Margot Honecker née Feist (born April 17, 1927) is a German Communist politician from Halle. She served as Education Minister of the German Democratic Republic (East Germany) for twenty-six years from 1963 until 1989. She was married to Erich Honecker, the former leader of East Germany, and they had a daughter together named Sonja born in 1951.
Honecker has resided in Chile since 1993. She receives a survivor's pension and the old-age pension of the German old age pension insurance federation.
In 2000 Luis Corvalan, the former Secretary-General of the Communist Party of Chile, published the book The Other Germany - the GDR. Discussions with Margot Honecker, in which Honecker speaks about the history of the GDR from her view.
