John Mayer grew up in the state of Connecticut listening to pop albums until the age of thirteen when a neighbor gave him a Stevie Vaughan tape, and soon after, Mayer picked up a guitar and started playing gigs at blues bars and other such venues after only two years. Growing up in Connecticut, John listened to pop music, but it was not untill the age of thirteen that his inspiration for playing the guitar began. Given a Stevie Vaughen tape by a neighbor, John discovered the blues and picked up the guitar. After just two years of practice, he started playing gigs at blues bars and other venues in the area.


After being involved with the guitar for several years, Mayer finally enrolled in the Berklee school of music in Massachusetts at the age of 19, but realized he was more interested in writing and playing music than studying it. However, he graduated and soon after was picked up by the industry and has become a well respected and pop recording artist. John Mayer was born on October 16 1977.

Given a Stevie Vaughen tape by a neighbor, John discovered the blues and picked up the guitar. After just two years of practice, he started playing gigs at blues bars and other venues in the area.

He soon realized though, that he was more interested in writing and playing music than studying it. He continued through and graduated, and soon afterward began his full career.

Mayer has toured with many groups including the Counting Crows and the Wallflowers. Some of his most popular and well known songs include "No Such Thing" and "Your Body Is a Wonderland". He won the 2003 Grammy Award for Best Male Pop Performance.
