John Mayer was born on October 16 1977.
Growing up in Connecticut, John listened to pop music, but it was not untill the age of thirteen that his inspiration for playing the guitar began. Given a Stevie Vaughen tape by a neighbor, John discovered the blues and picked up the guitar. After just two years of practice, he started playing gigs at blues bars and other venues in the area.
After playing the guitar for several years, Mayer enrolled in the Berklee school of music in Massachusetts at the age of 19. He soon realized though, that he was more interested in writing and playing music than studying it. He continued through and graduated, and soon afterward began his full career.
Mayer has toured with many groups including the Counting Crows and the Wallflowers. Some of his most popular and well known songs include "No Such Thing" and "Your Body Is a Wonderland". He won the 2003 Grammy Award for Best Male Pop Performance.
