This user is busy in real life and may not respond swiftly to queries.

I got a post-doc position, so I'll be more busy and have less time for wikipedia. If there is an issue on any article I made a consensus with other users, please e-mail me. You can also e-mail me with any other inquiries and I will respond back. To any reader reading this, I would not take[REDACTED] as a scholarly source on many history or social subject. Probably the arguments in the talkpages of disputed articles show this.

Goodbye

Dear Ali doostzadeh, just wish to say goodbye, as I am leaving now, most probably for good. This place seems to be populated by Philistines and Hypocrites, as evidenced by the fact that the destructive tendencies of someone, whose name is reminiscent of Mephistopheles, has now led to cutting the entry on Bagh (garden) to a fraction of its original size; it has now become an entry consisting solely of some nice pictures and a highly inaccurate definition of the word (about which I have already written to User:Tahmasp) which is further tagged as lacking a source --- there is no source for that definition, as it is just a contrived definition lacking any scientific basis (do you see the irony: they first delete the contents of the entry, then ask for sources). On this issue I have also written to User:Grandmaster on the talk page of Bagh (garden). I regret the fact that pure malice by some people, whose motivations I fail to comprehend, prevented me from doing something useful on Misplaced Pages, that most importantly I was kept away from what made me to reunite Misplaced Pages in the first place, namely writing a proper Misplaced Pages entry on Ali-Akbar Dehkhoda, about whom I have done some relatively in-depth research in the course of the past months. Amongst others, I was planning to include the translation of the full text of one of Dehkhoda's Charand o Parands to his biography (the translation would be by myself, as I am not aware of any extant English translation of this work). Unfortunately, this was not to be. Last but not least, it was a great pleasure knowing you on these pages. I wish you all the very best for all aspects of your life. With my cordial regards, --BF 16:45, 17 April 2008 (UTC).

Dear Ali doostzadeh, I was just for a moment here, so I thought to say thanks for your very kind words. I shall certainly do what you recommended me to with regard to the biography of Dehkhoda. Wish you and your expanding dear family the very best, Your sincerely, --BF 03:39, 21 April 2008 (UTC).

Ibn Hawqal and Al-Muqaddasi on Iranian dialects

Maybe you don't have the page numbers of Surat al-Ardh (صورة الأرض) by Ibn Hawqal, relating to Azari Language, so it is here:

The following passages are from "The history of literature in Iran, First Volume, Author: Zabihollâhe Safâ, 1351 (Persian year) by Ebn Sina publication", pages 144 and 146, translated by me:

"and they said about the Aran language that the people of Aran speak in Arani language which its Persian is understandable and in regard to the letters is near to Khorasani language (Ahsan al-Taqasim, page 378). And they wrote that the dialect of Azerbaijan is Persian (Surat al-Ardh, page 348), and of course what they meant by "Persian dialect" is not Khorasani dialect or prevalent dialect in Fars, but Iranian in contrast to Arabic."

"and it was the same in Azerbaijan where Persian-speaking landlords and merchants of there (it means those who were not from small-numbered people like Armenians and Georgians) understood Arabic well and spoke in it (Surat al-Ardh, page 348)."

original Persian:

«و همچنین بود در آذربایجان که مالکین و تجار فارسی زبان آنجا (یعنی آنها که از اقوام کوچکی از قبیل ارمن و گرج نبودند) عربی را خوب میفهمیدند و به آن تکلم میکردند (۲). پانوشت: ۲- صورة الأرض ص ۳۴۸

"For example they wrote about Khuzi dialect, that the people of Khuzestan spoke with a dialect of Persian and mixed it with Arabic (Surat al-Ardh, page 254; Masalik al-Mamalik, page 91; Ahsan al-Taqasim, page 418)."

Original Persian:

« مثلا راجع به لهجه‌ی خوزی نوشته‌اند (۳) که مردم خوزستان با لهجه‌ای از فارسی صحبت میکرده و آنرا با عربی میامیخته‌اند.» پانوشت: ۳- صورة الأرض ص ۲۵۴؛ مسالک الممالک ص ۹۱؛ احسن التقاسیم ص ۴۱۸

The following passage includes Arabic quotes:

"For example in Khuzestan, the language of people was mixed sensibly with Arabic as they wrote "وکثیرا ما یمزجون فارسیتهم

بالعربیه" (Ahsan al-Taqasim, page 418), and speaking in Arabic was also very simple for them as they did it between themselves without any tone or dialect. Al-Muqaddasi continues: "... واحسن ماتراهم یتکلمون بالفارسیه و حتی ینتقلون الی

العربیه و اذا تکلموا باحداللسانین ظننت انهم لایحسنون الاخر ...".

Thank you. I am not sure if the Khuzi language was Iranian or Arabic. It might have been remnant of Elamite? What do you think ? --alidoostzadeh (talk) 04:28, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
