The Chipewyan are a Canadian aboriginal people native to the Northwest Territories, Nunavut and the northern parts of the provinces of Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. They call themselves "Dene", meaning "people".

The Chipewyan language is part of the Athabaskan (Athapascan) linguistic group. Despite a superficial similarity, there is no connection to the Chippewa or Ojibwa.
