On March 4 1962 a Douglas DC-7 registration G-ARUD and operated by Caledonian Airways crashed shortly after takeoff from Douala International Airport, Douala, Cameroon.
The aircraft was scheduled to operate flight number 153 from Douala to Lisbon, Portugal. Onboard was a total of 101 passengers and 10 crew. All aboard died in the accident.
Witnesses reported that the aircraft had an unusually long takeoff run and climbed slowly before it crashed into a swamp some 1.5 miles from the runway threshold.
