Tap Tap Revenge is a rhythm game by Tapulous available as an application for the iPhone OS. It is almost identical to the game Tap Tap Revolution, which has been available on jailbroken iPhones and iPod Touches. The game has a simple interface, while the game itself is quite similar to popular games such as Guitar Hero and Rock Band. The goal of the game is to tap each of the colored balls when they reach the line at the bottom of the screen. If the ball is hit on the beat, the player gains points, but if not, it counts as a miss. There are also "shakes", which require the player to move the iPhone or iPod Touch to the right, left, or middle.
Development
Tap Tap Revenge was created and developed by Tapulous, which was a startup company at the time of release. The company creates applications for the iPhone and iPod Touch such as this application, Collage, Fortune, Twinkle, and Friend Book. Originally, the game was developed by Nate True for "jailbroken" (or hacked) iPhones and iPod Touches, and was called Tap Tap Revolution, after the Dance Dance Revolution series. Tapulous bought the game from True, and added features such as online tournaments, leader boards, and multi-player mode to the game. Tapulous hired a team of "all-star" game developers to work the game on US$1.8 million in raised funds.
In October 2008, Tapulous announced that they were working on a Nine Inch Nails-branded version of Tap Tap Revenge, including a special Nine Inch Nails skin and 16 songs from the band's albums Ghosts I-IV and The Slip, some of which would be specially edited for the game. It is now released.
In November 2008, Rivers Cuomo announced that Weezer was recording six classic Christmas carols for Tap Tap Revenge.
