OT - otters - OK, no puns, but... an unreasonably large number of years ago, we went to the White River near the Bull Shoals dam. There was a (to me) largish group of otters there, with burrows in a cut bank. I spent HOURS watching them play. One would be "it" and run into the burrows. The others would sit on shore below, and watch for the "it" otter to stick a head out. When it did they would ... well... chitter? Chirp? Whatever it is you call it when Otters "speak", and then it would duck back in, to appear at some other hole. They played this game a lot. When the "it" otter came out, they would roll around and tussle, then either go play some other game (slide down the bank was popular), or another otter would go in. Sometimes they would storm the tunnels and drive out the "it" otter. They were great. ] (]) 03:27, 6 January 2009 (UTC) | |||

Rickrolling
Hey, sorry that I took a bit to reply - I've been rather busy this weekend. Anyway, I'm still slightly concerned about the vandalism on the page - there have been many reverted edits, but notably, many were IP addresses trying to be constructive, but making unreferenced or non-notable contributions. I've discussed it with other editors who are active in GAN, and decided to wait a few more days to see if negative vandalism continues or increases or not - if so, maybe we can semi-protect the page to fix the problem, but I'm not sure if the article passes criterion #5 at this point. Otherwise, the article looks really good, though. On a side note, I think that the article may be misinterpreting xkcd comic #485, or at least, the statement does not seem to have much to do with rickrolling itself, only Astley. Maybe it's that the computer is being rickrolled? Firebat08 (talk) 01:36, 24 November 2008 (UTC)

Speed
Congratulations on the speed with which you cleared the 'helpme' tags on my talk page.
The first reply suggests that only the first sentence of my query was read.
The follow-up was enigmatic. What did "weird" mean? Weird that it was moved? Weird that I objected to the move?
The suggestion to "take it to WP:MFD" seemed odd. Isn't WP:MFD for pages that one doesn't want to exists _anywhere_? Clearly, that isn't what I was after.
The page is moved back now. In what was a bad precedent, the hijacker was appeased.
Nice speed. -Ac44ck (talk) 23:12, 24 November 2008 (UTC)

Found a Nice Source
I headed to the library here today and found "The Encyclopedia of Popular Music" on the third floor with other reference materials. I promptly got out Book 7 and located the article on Kenny Rogers, photocopied the three needed pages (30 cents well spent IMO), and noted everything I need to reference the article in case I add to Kenny's article page itself. While leaving, I recalled you were looking for some Alabama info. I am considering heading back and finding Book 1 (which I figure it'd be in) and photocopying those pages should you want help with that article as well. I won't be able to return to the library until next week after today passes, but are there other groups or country artists for which I can provide information? Just ask and I can make a weekly/bi-weekly trip to get info, maybe spending time editing the article from the library itself instead of bringing more paper home (at the cost of a dollar to park for 48 minutes LMAO - might be better to just photocopy).
They might have the books at your library, too. They list artist discographies, too, though sometimes novelty albums may be missing - see Kenny Rogers' Short Stories album, for instance, which was not in the encyclopedia but I know came in 1985 - I have pictures of the record itself thanks to the eBay seller I got them from!

Q on formatting discographies
I am admiring your discography tables and wondering how you do that? I'm about ready to post a stub for Oh Boy Records, and have assembled the company's discography in Excel form, but really don't want to type in a zillion || and -- to make the tables nice. I think I can insert new rows in Excel with the characters needed, then post it, but thought you might have a better way? Regards, Chuckiesdad (talk) 04:19, 30 November 2008 (UTC)

Devoted to You (song)
How did you ever come up with the comment that "Nobody ever released it as a single"? The song was released by the Everly Brothers as Cadence #1350, in 1958. The song hit the TOP 10 charts, of all things. Your proposal for deletion seems to be based on a total lack of knowledge of the details of the song's history. -- BRG (talk) 14:22, 29 November 2008 (UTC)
- I think when I created the article originally (this was over 2 years ago, so I'm not certain) I didn't have the chart data on it; I only had chart data prior to 1954. And in fact, I just copied the data from Mookie's comment on the deletion page, rather than check it out, assuming it was correct; I knew the song was a major hit, so I believe what he gave. -- BRG (talk) 20:33, 1 December 2008 (UTC)
Moving
Time for me to learn something new. How do we go about moving pages? I went to create "Greatest Country Hits", which is a Kenny Rogers album. I loaded it up, expecting it to be a disambiguation page. Instead, a Glen Campbell album has the page owned. Can we rename it to "Greatest Country Hits (Glen Campbell album)", which will be the same title style that I use for Kenny's, and let the title page be a disambiguation? I personally find this preferable compared with just slapping a disambiguation note on Campbell's page as a user searching just the title doesn't get confused then.
The coincidence? Both albums were released in 1990. Who knew?
CycloneGU (talk) 03:57, 30 November 2008 (UTC)
- Reply copied from CycloneGU's talk page and retitled topic here to match.
- To move a page, you click the "move" tab at the top. I moved the Glen Campbell album, you can fix the links left behind so they point to the Glen album. Then when you've done that and made the page for the Kenny album I'll make a dab for you. Ten Pound Hammer and his otters • 03:59, 30 November 2008 (UTC)
- Sure thing, I'll get right to work on that.
- In the meantime, Greatest Country Hits (Kenny Rogers album) is now up and I'll get to a disambiguation page for the pair as well. I think that completes Rogers' 1990 history; I'll put in the chronology later after a couple more years are up.
- That was quick. I only found one link to fix, on the discography. That's done, and the disambiguation page is there. While, according to disamb principles, there are only two uses and the page may not be needed, I will differ in that both are titles of albums, and I'm sure other albums have shared the same name over the years, making the page necessary. =)
- BTW, what is a "dab"?
- Reply copied as above.
- Dab = disambiguation page. It's since been done. By the way, please use the full names of the writers in all pages you make; see WP:ALBUM for formatting information. Ten Pound Hammer and his otters • 04:36, 30 November 2008 (UTC)
- You mean on each album page (such as this one)? I don't have full names, the information I have comes from AllMusic directly. Even in the linked case, I have pictures of the disc and thus don't have the full names there either. If you don't mean the album pages like the linked one, please clarify what you mean. Maybe I can get something else from AllMusic, I'll check into it. CycloneGU (talk) 18:16, 30 November 2008 (UTC)
- To the reply on my page, you mean create a page for each song title and include full name info there? I haven't created any song pages yet, I've merely been linking to what's already there. Or do you mean on AllMusic? CycloneGU (talk) 19:00, 30 November 2008 (UTC)
- I get it now. =) I noticed while going through the 1999 A&E disc that, on some songs, you find only an initial, not a full name. I did find what you refer to on AllMusic. I'll see what I can do, but for now, I'm going to at least get the albums in place then I can perhaps include links for each song on each page, too.
- Would linking to a page about an artist from their last name be amenable? Or is having it on the album page preferable?
- Cheers for all the advice! One more question. Do we follow the same principle for compilation albums, or just studio albums? CycloneGU (talk) 19:42, 30 November 2008 (UTC)

Talk About Fast Turnaround
No need to reply on my page for this one, it's a quick one.
The Kenny Rogers Singles Album is complete, names and all, and baring adding info in the future, I foresee no future edits. I have decided to go to a few compilation albums for now to get those main ones out of the way, and I'll go to the studio albums later on a single run-through, noting ones that still need info. Shockingly, there was a single track on this compilation whose composer was not on AllMusic; fortunately, an eBay seller was able to identify the composer of the song "Sail Away" as Rafe Van Hoy.
Clearly, I cannot source the info to another site, but it comes from someone who was looking right at the record as she typed it to me (I got track times too). I think album articles are one of few that can break sourcing rules (acquire the record and there is the info), but WOULD having this completed this way break Misplaced Pages boundaries for sourcing? I presume not since it's right on the record; I have pictures of the "Short Stories" album as I noted, and it gave me a few missing artists too. Do I just have to submit the reference as independent research and not published online, or how can I handle that?
Again, I'm keeping this page up, just reply here and I'll see it. I'll be visiting your page quite a bit in the future, I feel. =)
Did you find the music encyclopedia at the library, BTW? If not, just let me know if you ever need anything from it, I can look and update articles.

Flagicons (...again)
Hey, thanks for trying to help me out, but I'm not sure I completely understand your answer. Maybe I'm completely off the mark on this, but are you saying you understand WP:FLAGBIO as saying not to put flags anywhere in the infobox because, as it says, " putting a German flag in his infobox, for any reason, might lead the casual reader to assume he is or was a German citizen."? The policy only says that goes for "the birth and death information in an infobox". But if one assumes it goes for the entire infobox, what about flags before a person's uncontroversial and verifiable nationality? They wouldn't give anyone false assumptions, which is the rationale behind FLAGBIO. Again, I might have completely misunderstood your answer, but I can't figure out what else you could've meant...
Also, the reason I'm asking about this is because I've seen an admin removing the flags, but can't find a policy/guideline on it, and don't want to start removing them myself without being able to point back at something. I hope I'm not bothering you too much with this, especially after finding out you're (surprisingly I might add) not an admin - and hence haven't signed up for this :P Thanks again! --aktsu 00:21, 3 December 2008 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of Cakerolling
If you want to speedy-delete an article with an AfD template on it, just indicate this on the AfD page. Obvious speedy-delete candidates can be speedy-deleted through the AfD process, using WP:SNOWBALL as a justification, if there is no significant dissent on the AfD page. -- The Anome (talk) 18:17, 4 December 2008 (UTC)
Hello again. Please don't add speedy delete tags to articles undergoing AfD. You really don't need to do it: once an AfD is under way, speedy deletion is still possible, under the WP:SNOWBALL provision. Re-adding the speedy delete template actually makes things harder for admins who are trying to speedy-close AfDs, because it makes the client-side Javascript on the deletion form give the wrong prompts. If, on the other hand, there are significant reasonable arguments in the AfD for keeping the article, it would need to go through the entire AfD process anyway, and the speedy delete template would pjust confuse the process. -- The Anome (talk) 18:27, 4 December 2008 (UTC)

I do put effort into my album entries. I always try to get both names in but was short on time and intended to go back. I'll pass on Mattea's then and go to other artists. I'm not being defensive here and appreciate your efforts to make the entries complete, as do I. Keep up the good work. Regards, Bruce. Airproofing (talk) 17:56, 8 December 2008 (UTC)
- OK. Thanks. I've done virtually the whole Chet Atkins discography albums over the past year and do have questions here and there. If you notice anything that could be improved or clarified in the entries, let me know.Airproofing (talk) 18:10, 8 December 2008 (UTC)

Category stuff
Hi, Thanks for taking the time to alert me to Category:Vocal trios. I also wanted to let you know that I just repositioned the top part of the closing template at Misplaced Pages:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2008_December_8#Chaotic_articles_categories, which wound up in the preceding section because you had inserted it above the section heading, instead of right below. Btw, I would have closed it out myself, but since deletions were involved I thought it should be closed an admin. Am I wrong about that? How did they get deleted so quickly? Notice of request for deletion of editor TenPoundHammer :)
TenPoundHammer, the editor you are, has been nominated for deletion. We appreciate your contributions. However, an editor does not feel that you satisfy Misplaced Pages's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in the nomination space. Your opinions on yourself are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at User:GlassCobra/Editor for deletion#TenPoundHammer and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You are free to edit during the discussion but should not remove the nomination (unless you wish not to participate); such removal will not end the deletion discussion (actually it will). Speedy delist FAs
Hi Ten, regarding your comment on speedy delist of FAs, the list of articles that haven't been reviewed, or are in the process of being reviewed, since 2006, is down to around 40 Misplaced Pages:Unreviewed featured articles and being whittled down quickly. people must have decided over the last couple of years that normal featured review process would be sufficient, i'm assuming that part of this is the spirit that the editors' work was promoted when inlines weren't required so a big delist would be pretty harsh. cheers, Tom B (talk) 15:59, 12 December 2008 (UTC)

Take a look
The other day, I seperated Billy Ray Cyrus discography in different parts. I put singles from 1992-1999 in one, and 2000-present in another. The thing is, I did it because of:
- Cuts back on endnotes
- Add extra columns to put songs in

The interest has kind of fizzled out. Another Album Referencing Question
While assisting with someone asking for album tracklist advice (I believe in passing on knowledge *LOL*), I noticed that another editor for the album in question had quoted every single track time. Is a track time something that should be quoted as a reference, or can that be omitted without removing from the standing of the article? (The one I'm currently helping with is in GA status ATM, and I'm sure they want it to be FA someday.)
Was just curious about that. CycloneGU (talk) 13:31, 15 December 2008 (UTC)
In the interest of keeping the conversation in one place, Cyclone's referring to "Weird Al" Yankovic wherein I cited each of the tracks' lengths. FWIW, I did so because I generally believe in citing everything that could be questioned to preclude any referencing challenges. — pd_THOR | 22:05, 15 December 2008 (UTC)
- You could add something at the top that says "The track listing is as follows:" followed by a singular reference to Allmusic or some other similar source that verifies the track names and lengths. That would be much simpler. Ten Pound Hammer and his otters • 22:06, 15 December 2008 (UTC)

User trouble
I'm sorry for always bugging you, but this user, User:I7114080, seem to think s/he knows everything about everything. If there is a page that the user has edited before, like in the past week, and if I or anyone else changes anything, it'll be always be reverted back to his/her edit. And the thing that aggravated me the most, no edit summary is ever used to say why it's being changed back. For instance, yesterday I formatted Sugarland discography to everything new, and well guess who changed it back with no edit summary...??? Again, sorry for bugging you all the time. EnDaLeCoMpLeX (talk) 14:09, 15 December 2008 (UTC)
- The thing is, though, everything is denoted at the bottom of the table. "—" denotes the album/single failed to chart, not released, or not certified. And there is "Some peak positions are unknown", or "Canadian chart positions are unknown from 2000-2004". EnDaLeCoMpLeX (talk) 02:39, 16 December 2008 (UTC)
- Sorry to butt in. I put in an edit earlier and I'm going to see what happened afterwards right now. I'm interested in whether the user quoted tried to revert MY edit, which restored some useful information you (EnDaLeCoMpLeX) put in while allowing a citation of his you'd removed to stay in. User trouble
User:EnDaLeCoMpLeX keeps adding dashes. I keep revert his edits because some peak positions are not found or the charts did not exist. Basically he just fill the table with dashes. But he denotes that some positions are not found. Well that means the song did chart, not fail to chart. So there should be no dashes. I don't know what to do with him. Rough Diamond (album)
Hi. You seem to have much experience with music articles. I was cleaning up the dab page Rough Diamond, and it seems odd that the 2006 article Rough Diamond (album) doesn't have a corresponding article for their one-album band Rough Diamond (band) (which has notable band members though). Schools
If you see an article about a school below the secondary level which doesn't seem to be notable, you can merge it or redirect it to the relevant school district (or locality, if there is no school district). In the case of Burger School for Students with Autism, I have commented at Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/Burger School for Students with Autism that it should be kept since it includes the high school grades. Unless an article about a school is a hoax, it should not be deleted; mergers and redirects are more appropriate. -- Eastmain (talk) 02:39, 18 December 2008 (UTC)
- The article is updated to say it is the largest public autism school in America, with a source. Granted, it's a primary source but government web sites don't have incentive to use hyperbole like a corp. site might. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 06:17, 18 December 2008 (UTC)
CFD closings
Hi there, TPH - First I want to let you know that I had to reposition the top close-templates on the two Dec. 17 CFDs that you just closed out. I also mentioned the same thing to you about this one. So please be more careful where you place those templates: they belong immediately under the section heading, not above it.
Also, I think you kind of jumped the gun when you closed out that CFD for Category:The Beatles people after placing a {{Category redirect}} tag on the category page. I'm not saying I necessarily disagree with doing that, but I really think the CFD discussion should be allowed to run its course, to allow other editors to put their two cents in. There is, after all, a reason for the procedural rules that have been developed for CFD. Even though I'm sure that both you and Silk Tork were acting in good faith, the sequence of steps here amounts to an end run around the CFD process. So all in all I think it would be best for you to revert your own close & reopen the discussion. Regards, Cgingold (talk) 05:13, 18 December 2008 (UTC)
- Wow, that has to be the fastest reply I've ever gotten. Listen, I understand that you didn't think there was a problem -- that's why I took the time to explain to you why it really IS a problem. The point is, it seriously undermines the CFD process. If everybody dealt with things that way, it there would be no point in even having CFDs. Who would bother?? "NAC" closing
I noticed you referenced "NAC" on a closing at MfD recently. I have no problem with the close nor with you closing discussions in general and actually think you ought to be an admin but I am concerned that only regulars would have any idea what "NAC" refers to. If you could either (or both) write out the words or wikilink them (to the guidelineWP:DPR#NAC, not the essay WP:NAC), users would know that they could ask an admin to summarily undo your close rather than taking it to DRV. Relatively New To Misplaced Pages
I have a question about notability guidelines when it comes to articles such as this: Daniel_Louis_Rivas .. This is a prime example of many articles I have come across recently.. can you help me understand how an article such as this one, for a basically unknown actor, should possibly belong in[REDACTED] rather than in a film database such as IMDB? I would nominate them for deletion myself, if I knew how to, or understood the guidelines enough to know that that was in order. Cheers. (LAmusic3 (talk) 07:36, 21 December 2008 (UTC))
- It looked crazy to me, so am glad to see I am not alone! If I see future articles like that should I just let you know or what is the procedure? Thanks. (LAmusic3 (talk) 00:51, 23 December 2008 (UTC))

There wasn't much point in prolonging that, was there? I probably would have closed it out myself if I hadn't taken part in the discussion. Hello!
Hello! I was skimming the Recent Changed page and noticed "oddly enough, Michigan has both" and honest to God, I though to myself, wonder if he's talking about Rally's and Checkers? So I clicked on it, and sure enough you were. I then decided to get stalkerish and view your profile page, and I read the first few lines. Well, I too am a 21 year old male from the Great State of Michigan who plays in his church band. I just wanted to shout out a hello in light of this, so hello! Sara Evans' albums
It seems that user:CloversMallRat disagrees with my revisions of Sara Evans' albums. I designed the albums in the syle of the albums on the discographies of Diamond Rio and John Michael Montgomery. However this user keeps reverting the edits. Can you help me because obviously he won't listen to me. What do you think about it? Dottiewest1fan (talk) 21:01, 26 December 2008 (UTC)
- I find problems with it because of her specialty albums list... the studio albums are fine. But unlike other artists, she has a lot of special releases that can't support the "detailed" album listing as well. Besides, most country music discographies look much cleaner without the details, because they have fewer charts and they are thus shapen differently... so there's less need. Carrie Underwood discography needs it because she charts in places besides just U.S. and Canada. But there's no need for it on Sara Evans discography. CloversMallRat (talk) 22:24, 26 December 2008 (UTC)
- It seems that it might be settled for now. Thank you. Dottiewest1fan (talk) 02:42, 27 December 2008 (UTC)

What are your thoughts on getting Billy Ray Cyrus discography a featured artice? EnDaLeCoMpLeX (talk) 18:54, 27 December 2008 (UTC)
- Thats what I meant, my bad. I do agree with you on more sources, but how can you source something that can't be found? How did Diamond Rio discography get by without those? Again, I agree with the main article. It does need some work, and will take a while, but if you and I could round up a few country editors, I think it can be done. EnDaLeCoMpLeX (talk) 19:07, 27 December 2008 (UTC)
- I'm working on a few bits and pieces of it now. The only thing left to be sourced is the music videos. But, on CMT, it only has maybe 6 or 7 videos last time I looked. And on YouTube, again, not all the videos are there since he left Mercury. I'm really proud of the way it looks, and flows and all. I think it looks great! LeAnn Rimes, Rascal Flatts discographies
I'm so sorry to have to bother you again with my problems. But it seems I have another problem user. However user:I7114080 keeps making a color key for certain discographies. See Rascal Flatts discography for example. I keep telling him not to do it but he keeps doing it. I just made new albums tables for LeAnn Rimes's discography (looks in the style of Sara Evans discography) and he changed it back to the way he did it, saying my idea was not good. However I told him on my edit summary that it is a requirement of discographies. Can you please tell him exactly what I said and that it is a requirement. He's ruining the format of discographies. Hello!
Hi! I just noticed that my page regarding Pirates Online was deleted and read the discussion coming from it. I'm totally fine with the deletion and just wanted to clear this up with all users who were nominating it, so maybe if you could spread the word around! First: I didn't know you couldn't have your own personal pages with information, because I had seen other users with the same sorts of things on their personal pages (e.g. Brethren Court, etc.). Second: I wasn't aiming on threatening vandalism tags with everyone – there was a specific person, whose IP and various accounts (accused of sockpuppetry) had been personally harassing me and it was agreed between myself and a few administrators that the more he put my mainpage/talk pages, etc. up for speedy deletion, the more vandalism tags he would be given. Hence, I had posted a notice, specifically for him. I'm sure I should've been more clear about that. That is all, and thanks so much for telling me what I should've been doing, I didn't know I couldn't have my personal page on that. Regards, BlackPearl14 21:04, 3 January 2009 (UTC)

They were great. sinneed (talk) 03:27, 6 January 2009 (UTC)
