Template:Manila LRT Yellow Line Blumentritt LRT Station is a station on the Manila LRT Yellow Line (LRT-1). Like all other LRT-1 stations, Blumentritt station is above-ground. The station serves Sampaloc in Manila. The station itself is located near Blumentritt Street, which the station was named after. The street itself is named to honour Czech professor Ferdinand Blumentritt, the educator and closest friend of the Philippine national hero José Rizal and a sympathizer of the Filipino cause.
Blumentritt station serves as the fifth station for LRT-1 trains headed for Baclaran and as the fourteenth station for trains headed to Monumento. It is the second-to last station on Rizal Avenue before the line shifts to Rizal Avenue Extension at Abad Santos station. Like its southern counterpart at Tayuman, the station is near the old San Lazaro Hippodrome, which now houses SM City San Lazaro.
Transportation links
A Philippine National Railways station exists just a short walk from the station, also known as Blumentritt station. Jeepneys and taxis that ply Rizal Avenue and nearby routes stop at Blumentritt station, where there is a nearby transportation terminal.
Rizal Day bombings
On Rizal Day (December 30), 2000, an LRT-1 car exploded as part of a series of explosions in a terrorist attack known as the Rizal Day bombings. The particular attack on the LRT killed some 22 people and injured hundreds. Eight members of both Jemaah Islamiyah and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), which include Hambali, Asia's most wanted man, and the late Fathur Roman al-Ghozi, were charged with plotting and masterminding the attacks in 2003, some three years after the attacks.
