It began with a series of appearances at summer events during 2006, beginning in April at the Coachella Festival in Indio, California. Culminating with a short visit to South America and Miami, Florida later in the year, the duo decided to conduct more live dates in the future. They returned to the live circuit in 2007, including a full-fledged eight-date tour of North America. Their show at Palais Omnisport Bercy in Paris, France was recorded and later released as Alive 2007. The 2006 concerts were initially not given a name, but the performances in 2007 were advertised as the Alive 2007 tour. The appearances and tour as a whole was retroactively given the title "Alive 2006/2007".
The performances were met with praise and critical acclaim. The Times described Daft Punk's set as a "memorable sensory spectacle, both dazzling and deafening".
2006 performances were similar to the Alive 2007 set list, but lacked the encore, "Burnin'", and elements of "Phœnix"; instead the 2006 set contained a reprise of "Technologic" after "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger".
