The phrase "Keep Austin Weird" is now so engrained into the Austin vernacular that it has even become symbol for the city itself. The catch phrase has become so identified with Austin and the University of Texas that it has spawned the imitator "Keep College Station normal" from UT's long-time rival Texas A&M in another one of A&M's lame attempts to mock the Universtiy of Texas and Austin, the unique city the University calls home.

Keep Austin Weird is a popular slogan used on T-shirts and bumper stickers meant to commemorate the alternative and independent culture of Austin, Texas.

The phrase was coined by Red Wassenich.

"Keep Austin Weird" has developed into a fad around Austin. Part of this fad is also the parody of the phrase from "Keep Austin High Weird" to "Keep Casis Cool" and even "Keep Children Reading." Most of the alternative versions are designed to mirror the original design: laided out in similar form with the same font and even sometimes on similarly tie-dyed shirts.----AW
