This article has come a long way!

I was not trying to stick a finger in your eye by tagging it for notability. And, as you figured out already, you can take the tag off the article yourself; there's no one hanging around tracking it.

New articles by new editors are deleted almost instantaneously if there is any hint that they might not be notable. Personally I think more experienced editors can be a bit too quick on the trigger when they do this. This is probably because most new articles are, in fact, not notable and never will be; many are also "vanity articles". When I can, I try to help a few newcomers such as yourself that have submitted promising articles; mostly this consists of welcoming them, giving them a few pointers and then trying to defend their article from deletion. That's the whole reason I put the notability tag on the article -- it flags one of the people "patrolling" new articles for potential deletion that at least one semi-experienced editor has reviewed the page, noted problems and left comments on the talk page. At that point, they are supposed to look at the talk page before deleting the article. "New page patrollers" sometimes delete these articles anyway, in which case I make a big fuss and the article gets restored (with some grumbling).

Yeah Postcrossing is a lot of fun! go to http://www.postcrossing.com There is a quick registration process. Then you request up to five addresses and you will also get a unique ID number for each. Put the ID on the card, send them off and then wait for the card to be arrived and then registered. Once the card is registered, you will places on the list to receive a card! Time will tell if it is worthy of deletion or not but may I make one suggestion: in the future, please wait more than a minute or two before suggesting a page for deletion. I often save my work in the beginning in order to make sure that the work in progress in saved and not timed out or lost if I lose my internet connection. A little patience often goes a long way. At least wait 15 or so minutes for proposing deletion to make sure no further edits are on the way.

I wanted to point out to you the recent ] to redirect "Harvard College alumni" into ]. I confess, I was surprised that a "Radcliffe College alumni" category did not exist. However, I think that creating the category may run into similar problems -- that people think of the undergraduate college as synonymous with the University. This is less true with Radcliffe than with Harvard College, but it happens nonetheless. Of course, you also have to contend with a historical distinction that no longer exists. But it also talked about a future game IIRC and a few other problems I listed in the reasons for my requesting it be deleted. And yes, I know AFDs usually go on top but stop being so anal - if they go on the bottom and not on the top because I do it without thinking, Wiki and the world won't come to an end. BTW, if the Pirates at Ocean's Edge is as important as you imply that it is, then write a new article on the subject and write a good article about it! Let us know why it is important. Apparently the people who voted to delete it didn't agree with you about how important it was, based on what was written. And on that vein, that is why I AfD'd it after the prod was removed. Just a friendly reminder to use an ] when proposing deletion for an article. Edit summary usage is always good, but it is especially important that edit summaries are used when proposing deletion. The reason for this is that articles proposed for deletion that later have the {{tl|prod}} tag removed should not be proposed for deletion again, but rather sent to ]. The only easy way to check if an article was previously proposed for deletion is to look at the edit history and the edit summaries people have left before. ::Sorry missed that! Good question. I am not positive what the answer is but my gut tells me that regardless of what the degree says, it depends on what the internal paperwork says. I remember back in the 70s when the first merge happened. You were still considered a Radcliffe student but the dorms were merged with Harvard for coed dorms and you were allowed to take courses at either college. But IIRC you were still considered a Radcliffe student. Even though now I live only three or so miles away, I am not sure what the deal is. I know on local maps printed today the area is listed as Radcliffe College. They do offer fellowships and the like at what remains.... I don't know what to say! ] 09:56, 6 April 2007 (UTC)

Here's a brief history: "Harvard degrees were awarded to Radcliffe students for the first time in 1963, and in the same year women were admitted to the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. . . . In 1977, Harvard and Radcliffe agreed that Radcliffe would delegate to Harvard all responsibility for undergraduate education of women and the management of undergraduate affairs. After the 1977 Agreement, Radcliffe College devoted increasing attention to cultivation and development of research and postgraduate programs, having turned over almost all responsibility for collegiate affairs to Harvard College. . . . 1999, the governing bodies of Harvard and Radcliffe completed the merger of the two institutions. Between 1977 and 1999, the schools were entirely integrated, although I think women were still nominally considered to be enrolled as Radcliffe students. Until 1999, diplomas were signed by the presidents of both Harvard and Radcliffe. 1999 is definitely a bright line. I'm just not sure what to do with graduates between 1977 and 1999. Hi, you have placed a prod on ]. This article was supposed to be a redirect but the atricle keeps getting recreated with little or no useful information. The redirect was protected for a time and then semi-protected, but still seems to be getting reverted to a stub. The last person to do this apprears to claim some copyright violation in having the redirect.

I have left it but think that it should be reverted to the redirect to ] again, and protected to prevent it been changed yet again. If it is deleted then it would need protection from recreation.

Previous incarnations omitted the nonsense, but lacked sources. The current version provides details and sources regarding the ] skit and of multiple popular culture references. Hi Cathy, In stub-sorting I'm catching up on a lot of people you've stubbed and given DEFAULTSORT tags. Have you considered using {{tl|lifetime}}? I tend to use it whenever we have got either a birth or death date, or if the person appears likely still to be living (eg ]), because for a similar number of keystrokes you get the added bonus of adding them to a birthdate and/or deathdate category or the ]. The basic syntax is <nowiki>{{lifetime|||Zerhusen, Joe}}</nowiki>, ie null parameters for birthdate and deathdate when we don't have them. Apologies if you know all about this alternative and have chosen not to use it - as far as I know neither option is officially prefered above the other, though there does seem to be heated debate at ]. ] (]) 09:59, 20 May 2009 (UTC)

Hi, I'm confused. You've been putting orphan tags on pages marked with the <nowiki>{{surname}}</nowiki> tag - see ], ], ] and .

The <nowiki>{{surname}}</nowiki> tag produces text which says, "''If an internal link led you here, you may wish to change that link to point directly to the intended article.''" The orphan tage produces text which says, "''Please introduce links to this page from other articles related to it.''" It seems strange to have both appearing on the same article.

Historically, <nowiki>{{surname}}</nowiki> pages have never been tagged as orphans - it just doesn't make any sense to do so. Something seems to have gone awry in the classification of these pages, stemming from the fact that English Misplaced Pages (unlike all other languages) does not technically classify <nowiki>{{surname}} and {{given name}}</nowiki> pages as disambiguation pages.

How should we tackle this to prevent the many hundreds of <nowiki>{{surname}} and {{given name}}</nowiki> pages being given a totally inappropriate orphan tag? ] (]) 10:57, 16 June 2009 (UTC)

:I am not an expert on either orphans or names. The only thing I can think of, other than contacting someone who knows more than I do on orphans, is to make certain pages disamb articles. Some articles on names are simply disamb articles. Others are more specific, giving things like origins of the name and other historical/factual info. All I know is that as is, they keep popping up as orphaned pages needing tags. If I don't tag them, a bot will. So it is stupid to revert my edits. That's the strange thing - bots simply don't tag these pages as orphans. What's more, I just tried AWB on the pages - it's very good at checking out orphans and adding the orphan tag - but it doesn't tag these pages. Please discuss it with them. All I know is that they are showing up as meeting the criteria for orphan tags. Also, I recommend you read ] as it makes clear that the orphan criteria will very soon be changed since surname pages are currently wrongly classified as orphans. It's going to change very soon. The rules say if it is on that list, it should be tagged. I am going to tag it. Howdy, you may want to use {{tl|uncatstub}} instead of {{tl|uncat}} on articles that have a stub category but no content category. Also, to avoid having SmackBot clean the tags, add the date to the tag, as in <nowiki>{{uncatstub|date=June 2009}}</nowiki> or <nowiki>{{subst:dated|uncatstub}}</nowiki>.

You can see this advice in points 6 and 7 of ].

If an article has a specific stub tag, that is not just {{tl|stub}}, then often it is very easy to categorize the article on the spot. Things like {{tl|china-stub}} place the article in the category ] which links to ]. You can add ] to the article, and as the stub is expanded the category will be refined.

Of course it is fine to just mark it {{tl|uncatstub}} if you are doing many articles all at once. ] (]) 13:19, 19 June 2009 (UTC)
