Account Unjustly Blocked

Photography

I've just edited the list of "further considerations" you added to the photography article.

• I thought that "Technologically, there is no system of storage of digital images that gets close to this, even for hard-copy prints" was a little unfair. After all, digital technology is still quite young. So I mentioned this, and noted that already a whole bunch of media and formats have been abandoned.
• I tried to improve the wording about long exposures. I dunno, maybe it wasn't needed. I made specific mention of thermal noise and manufacturing defects, which I thought was important.
• Likewise, I also tried to make the point about dust more specific - mentioning that digital sensors are static but film is always being fed through the camera. I also thought the mention of non-SLR digitals wasn't needed. Is dust really a problem for them?

Apart from that, I toned it down it a bit by removing a few "very"'s. Hope you don't mind my edits. Imroy 16:15, 1 April 2006 (UTC)

hi there. Please take a look at microscope. The principle is pretty simple actually. It's a more precise formulation of the simple Abbe law, thus effectively making Abbe law a special case. Be welcome to research and extend it. Seriously 90% of the[REDACTED] articles are not yet usuable, but this is what it is all about. Hi. You are right. However it is a university and i didn't have the time to make my own entry. In the future in case i do something like this i will place the copyvio accordingly. Your redirect was mal-formed. Tawkerbot2 bot is programmed to recognize valid redirects, and a number of mal-formed redirects, but there's no way it can be made to recognize every way someone could mistype a redirect. List of Welsh lakes

I've been looking through "The lakes of Eryri" by Geraint Roberts, and found that there are a large number of lakes of 1-3 acres or so in the area. I thought I knew the lakes of Snowdonia pretty well, but there are some in there I've never heard of. Should the lower size limit be increased to 3 or 5 acres I wonder? Hi Velela - noticed you'd removed a link to Helianthemum nummularium because it was just a redirect to the genus; I know redirects like this are a nuisance, but it's best not to remove them outright as then (a) the unlinked species looks odd in the species list, and (b) no-one may ever know that there's an article waiting to be written there (tho' I have done a quick stub for it now). Septic tank fact

You added a parenthetical ((fact)) to a statement when I think you intended to tag it {{fact}}. Hopefully, anyway because I think it deserves such a tag. The last sentence (3rd) in particular seems like it should be referenced or removed. The 2nd sentence need to be qualified as misleading - the danger of pathogen movement is related to a combination of short-circuiting in the septic tank and anaerobic failure in the leach field and needs to be so specified. I have been looking for a reference to address this and the 1st sentence "Many pathogenic bacteria can survive in septic tanks for a very long time, owing to the anaerobic conditions." I believe this 1st sentence is highly inaccurate as to normal operation. It is an error based on a simplistic undertanding of the range of reducing environments that are covered by the term anaerobic. My understanding is that the deep anaerobic (methane producing) conditions in a properly working septic tank are toxic to facultative anaerobes. This is a more extreme reducing environment than occurs in the body tissue where disease organisms operate. Those species which do survive extreme reducing chemistry are those particularly vulnerable to the aerobic conditions in the leachfield. My understanding was that this 2-stage redox shift disinfection was by design. That is, we do not depend on just oxidative conditions to protect human health as it relates to groundwater. So far, I am still looking for the reference to corroboarate this. You have a background in the little critters, perhaps you can comment here. MixAlco Process

Bala Lake

In the monobook and blue cologne skin, one version of the coordinates shows up in the infobox, the other on the usual places for the articles. This is comparable to other infoboxes. I just reverted your edits on acid rain along with some earlier unhelpful additions. I don't understand why you removed ISBN numbers and a date from references. Spelling

Sorry, but I believe you are conveniently ignoring the fact that "Follow the dialect of the first contributor" is the "all else fails" guideline of WP:ENGVAR. In all cases of my editing, one of the higher priority guidelines applied. If you check my edits, you will see some which changed the spelling to the British variant. Hi Velela, thanks for the constructive criticism on the AD article it was what I needed. I do not have a great deal of knowledge on the cold lagoon digestion so that may be why it does not feature highly, I'll have a read up on it to incorporate it into the article. I take your points on board on the microbiology front. There was a section on biochemistry which has now been merged into the process section and contains the aerobic digestion comparison. I think it probably requires greater attention and expansion.

I was surprised to hear your views that the article related towards thermophilic systems. Personally I am a largely mesophilic system supplier, so perhaps I was compensating so the article does not come across biased one way.

Septic system vs septic tank

In June of 2006, you moved content from septic system to septic tank. I haven't located the supporting discussion. Do you recall the rationale? Reservoir stubs

Hallo, It looks as if you're systematically creating a lot of reservoir stubs. Rather than label them {{stub}}, so that someone from Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Stub sorting has to think about each one separately, I wonder if you could add the two specific stubtypes - I reckon each one needs {{Watersupply-stub}} and one from the selection at Category:England geography stubs. It would be useful also to add a county geography category - Category:Geography of England by county gives a set to choose from. I've done 3 so far, but it would be less total effort if you could add the detailed stubs and the county geog tag as you go along! Rhododendron

Hi, Velela. Saw your explanation in your edit summary for Vogel State Park for rhododendron.

This is an unusual situation. The popular name for the plant - at least is the Unites States - is the same as the genus. Correct me if I'm wrong, but that is usually not the case. Hence, my preference for using the term "rhododendron" with no capitalization and no italics, unless refering to it in a scientific context.

Carlisle local elections

Hi Velela, thanks for your calling me out about this page, looking back at my edit yesterday it was not good to, in effect, just revert your edit without making any attempt to address your legitimate criticism of the section. Looking at the section it did not add much to the article and I have made an attempt to improve the section with references to make it of more use to readers. My hope eventually is that someone (maybe myself it I can get around to it!) is that seperate articles can be created for the individual elections as there are for many in Category:Council elections in North West England. Again thanks for your remarks on my talk page and please just because I am an admin do not feel constrained from criticising me or improving any articles I edit, I make mistakes at least as much as others! Inappropriate use of WP:SULF in non-chemistry articles

Hi! I see you have made many spelling changes citing WP:SULF as the reason for the change. Please note WP:SULF is a guideline which supports those spelling changes in articles related to chemistry. Mere mention of cesium in an article is not a sufficient reason to apply this guideline! List of Lakes in England

I admit that the task does seem mind-numbingly large, but once it is done, it will greatly improve the article. Also, a more minor alteration would be to put the lakes into alphabetical sections like many articles have, or even by county, which could give a quick idea of which county has the most lakes. Nant Llech Pellaf

Thanks for comments Velela. New to this editing business and didn't mean to upset anyone by removing this tiny stream and I'd be happy to see it reinstated if there's good reason eg as you refer to. It just seemed to me that it was so insignificant as not to deserve special mention (and had been mis-spelled)though if all such watercourses were named in the list then it would at least be consistent. Note that I've jigged a couple of other entries to fit in with the stated principle of ordering them. I'd be interested to get advice on naming issues where both English and Welsh names may be in use and where, in the case of many minor watercourses, only the Welsh name is likely to be used but the list gives the English version. best wishes

Perhaps a note about 'main river' definition at the start of the rivers list would prevent others from making the snap judgement that I made, if that is the way the list is best arranged? I looked for a list of main rivers on the web but didn't just find one - is this the closest we have to it?
As to names I'd go along with your own view I think. I'm an English speaker but find un-necessary anglicisation of Welsh names grating but accept that there are well-established English names for the key features (not just rivers of course) - there will always be inconsistencies and OS is open to error (eg Epynt became Eppynt and has now reverted to Epynt).
As regards catchments issue I can see that there are at least two reasonable approaches. Does one include everything in a single article about say the River Neath (or is that the Afon Nedd?!) and its entire catchment and simply have sub--sections for the Mellte, Hepste, Nedd Fechan etc perhaps, with redirects to each of these or have separate pages for each named river, or a combination of both, making use of sections within a larger article just for those minor watercourses (however defined!) that don't justify a page of their own (subjective of course). I guess that the key is whether the information is easily retievable and understood so any of these approaches could work if properly cross-referenced. Differenet editors would probably take different views - could one/should one attempt to impose a unifom approach?

Castles

Thanks for your support at List of castles in Wales. Owain's agenda is to give the so-called "historic counties" precedence over the modern ones and I have records of numerous edits by him which show a complete disregard for our established practice on wikipedia, including changing text and categories to put villages etc in one of the former counties rather than its current location. This is merely another example of his historic counties campaign which has caused hours of unneccesary work for other editors, myself included (ask anyone at UK Geo!). In a nutshell, that is his sole motivation and his reversal of my edits has nothing to do with the revised article being "nonsensical" as he implied. I'm sorry you interpreted my message as a "slap on the wrist" - that is not my intention. Most people are unaware of which words link to dab pages, and the number of dab pages with links is far greater than what the handful of active editors in WikiProject Disambiguation can fix. All articles on Misplaced Pages are under construction, by the way. Speedy deletion of Environmental monitoring

I don't understand why a long-time[REDACTED] editor like you would think it's OK to add long unsourced essay sections to an article. If you're info is correct, show us the sources. As for the details on shutters, why not take it to shutter (photography)? And there's an article on film format, too; link it if you like, but don't try to replace it from scratch. Ness gardens

You deleted the entry I put in the List of botanical gardens in the United Kingdom for here under Liverpool; I know they are in Cheshire, but as they are the University gardens it makes sense to have an entry at Liverpool as well. The list is organised by County/ Unitary Authority of the location of the garden. This pattern is consistent across all the listing for every country. Having repetitious entries would make the lists very confusing as many Universities have several gardens in different locations, sometimes in different countries. Kew gardens for example has a satellite garden at Wakehurst Place gardens in Sussex. - but this listed under the appropriate geographic heading - West Sussex. In terms of users of the lists, this makes it much simpler to locate gardens in a particular area. I agree that there is at least one anomaly, the Botanic gardens of Edinburgh University, but I will amend those entries when I have a spare moment.  Velela    13:00, 8 June 2009 (UTC)

I find your message somewhat hypocritical in that it's your own POV that Swansea is in West Wales. The boundaries are not officially defined and it's your opinion whether it's in the west or not. You have produced no evidence. Just because you say that people in Swansea think something certainly does not make that true. Even it that were true, the boundaries of West Wales are subject to opinion. The first thing that any good editor learns is that opinion is not permitted on Misplaced Pages. I have no problem in debating, but you do not edit war whilst doing so. My message was not bullying - you are being disruptive by repeatedly your introducing opinion into the article, which is strongly against Misplaced Pages policy.
