Kris Weston (born 1972) aka "Thrash" is a British electronic musician best known for his work as a member of The Orb. Near the begining of his career he worked with Andrew Weatherall on remixes of Meat Beat Manifesto and Saint Etienne. He was known as something of a boy wonder in the studio, as he was still a teen when working on the first few albums by The Orb. Thrash was with The Orb for less than 5 years, from around 1990 to the end of 1994, but these were their most productive and golden years. He appeared on these Orb albums (along with the many remixes they did during this period):

Online Persona

In the early 1990s, Thrash was known to terrorize Usenet. He was one of the first to help compile alt.binaries.porn.erotica, back when porn on the Internet was mostly frontal hetero pics. Around 2003 and 2004, he joined The Orb's discussion list and was so abusive he was eventually switched over to moderated status, requiring each of his posts to be manually approved. I don't know for sure, but I would guess this is the first time a musician joined an online community where he could interact with fans and they rejected him, one of the people who the list was created to follow.

Justablip Records

In 2003, Thrash formed Justablip Records, an Open Source/Creative Commons license style music label with a political bent. Their first release was WTF? Madonna Remix Project which contained 15 tracks by various artists sampling Madonna saying "What the fuck do you think you're doing?" which he had spread on P2P networks as a decoy of her new album. The whole release was compiled via P2P, released on CD, yet available for free download. The second release, Weapons of Mass Destruction was one SMPTE frame of silence with a remix by Plaid. The silence was an obvious reference to the fact that "WMD" had not been found in Iraq, even though their existence was a selling point of the war. The third release Good Luck, Cunt was a cut up collage of news coverage of Iraq. The fourth and most aggressive release, The War Against Terror Go back to bed America, featured samples of President George W. Bush and comedian Bill Hicks. Not many electronic musicians at the time were as "vocal" within their music as Thrash in his opposition to the invasion of Iraq.
