Hey there, I've both welcomed you and left you messages before LOL. I know you're new and it can be a little overwhelming and frustrating to have bots and editors you don't know giving you advice and warnings, but there are many specific policies here and it can be easy to violate them. Hey there, I've both welcomed you and left you messages before LOL. I know you're new and it can be a little overwhelming and frustrating to have bots and editors you don't know giving you advice and warnings, but there are many specific policies here and it can be easy to violate them. I think you'll find most people here to be collaborative and helpful. It may also help for you to participate in discussion in response to such advice, or before you make any drastic edits and changes. You will definitely want to familiarize yourself with Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Soap Operas#Style guidelines and the various links to policy found there. In particular, many soap-related articles (including most of the character articles from Days of our Lives) pretty much violate basic content and notability policies for articles on fictional topics because they contain no real-world context or sources asserting notability, are written from an in-universe point of view (as if the plotlines of the show are real life), etc. I would hate for you do do a lot of work that ends up getting reverted, or articles deleted, just because no one has taken the time to point you in the right direction.

I also wanted to remind you that fair use (non-free) images may only be used in articles (not user pages) per Misplaced Pages:Non-free content criteria#Policy Item 9, and even then there are specific criteria. I have asked you to read the Misplaced Pages:Non-free content criteria for rules regarding image usage, and I have explained via edit summary when images you have uploaded and/or added to Misplaced Pages articles and user pages violate those rules. This image which you have added to Maggie Horton here and to Caroline Brady here (via your sock) and here are what we call decorative images, as they serve no essential purpose in illustrating a point in an article. Specifically, Misplaced Pages:Non-free content criteria#Policy #8, which states "Non-free content is used only if its presence would significantly increase readers' understanding of the topic, and its omission would be detrimental to that understanding." In this case, this means that while the primary image of Caroline is acceptable to visually identify the character, additional images used to merely show the character in other situations or with other people are not. To stay within copyright law and the limits of fair use, we must use the minimal amount of copyrighted material required to adequately illustrate topics for educational purposes. I will not warn you again about this.— TAnthony 02:03, 22 January 2010 (UTC)

Caroline Brady

Please do not continue to add the notes section to Caroline Brady. Help improve the article by providing in line citations to references. Notes are useless in this case as they are not linked to anything. You have been approached by several editors trying to help you learn the ropes, and you are now continuing to purposely not heed their warnings. We need good editors here at this site, but willful refusal to follow the rules could result in your being blocked from editing. PLEASE contact myself or User:TAnthony if you need any help. We are MORE than happy to help you. Rm994 (talk) 00:37, 21 January 2010 (UTC)

To the rescue ;)

Thanks for your request for a little assistance; first of all, "inline citations" just means citing sources for each sentence or paragraph rather than list them at the end of an article (see Misplaced Pages:Citing sources#Inline citations). For example, the Dorian Lord article does a great job providing references for which actresses played the role when, and for awards won for her portrayal. The Tina Lord article does this and also provides sourced information about the character's impact, as well as sources for most of the storyline info. Sentence-by-sentence references for plot summary are not necessarily required, but you get the idea. The Caroline Brady article's biggest problem, however, is that it is written in past tense, is a jumbled mess, and contains what appears to be unsourced editor point-of-view like "Caroline is always there for her family." Misplaced Pages articles shouldn't read like the character profiles at Soaps.com or something. Take a look at Pauline Fowler, Erica Kane, Todd Manning, Marty Saybrooke, and other articles to see what we should be striving for (though except for the Pauline Fowler article, none of those are even considered complete or perfect). Also please read the style guidelines I suggested above, they discuss other important aspects like real-world context and notability. As it is now, there is nothing in the Caroline article asserting that the character is notable by the Misplaced Pages definition, which means it is technically worthy of deletion per policy. Thanks. 01:02, 21 January 2010 (UTC)

January 2010

Please do not remove maintenance templates from pages on Misplaced Pages, as you did to Caroline Brady, without resolving the problem that the template refers to, or giving a valid reason for the removal in the edit summary. Your removal of this template does not appear constructive, and has been reverted. Thank you. — TAnthony 02:25, 21 January 2010 (UTC)

Copyright violation

I have just discovered that the entire plot summary section of Caroline Brady, which you added when you recreated the article here, was a direct copyright violation from http://www.soaps.com/daysofourlives/cast/5/Caroline_Brady/. I know that you are a relatively new editor, so I will assume that you were unaware that for legal reasons it is against policy to add copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material without permission from the copyright holder. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of article content such as sentences or images. I have removed the text lifted from Soaps.com and rewritten a shorter plot summary that includes some dates to establish real-world context. Misplaced Pages takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. To date you have been a little lax in reacting to advice and warnings by familiarizing yourself with policy and altering your edits accordingly, but this is very serious and I urge you not to do it again. Thanks. — TAnthony 07:31, 21 January 2010 (UTC)

I am disturbed to discover that you created an earlier version of Caroline Brady with copyrighted material and were subsequently warned here on January 5, 2010 about adding such material to Misplaced Pages. The article was deleted that same day, and you recreated it on January 10, 2010 with more copyrighted text. In good faith I will assume you did not see or understand the warning, but you also have been warned about removing maintenance tags before on December 30, 2009 and have continued doing that as well, resulting in my warning above. Be warned that if you perform any of these violations again I will open a case for you to be blocked. Thanks again.— TAnthony 07:43, 21 January 2010 (UTC)

Sockpuppet??

FYI, creating and using two separate Misplaced Pages accounts in a deceptive manner is prohibited; it is known as using a Sock puppet. You just uploaded an image here (22:01, January 21, 2010) and then two seconds later new account Casey Pinsonneault added the image to Caroline Brady here (22:03, January 21, 2010). That and the fact that you announce your name as Casey here seem to prove that you control both of these accounts. This in itself seems harmless, except that on January 17, 2010 you commented separately as each of these usernames in the Caroline Brady AfD. In fact, it appears that you created the Casey Pinsonneault username for this sole purpose. This is deception, and the exact reason why sockpuppets are not allowed. I will again assume that you did not realize what you were doing was wrong, but now you know. Please choose one account or the other; I can either advise you how to request the unused account's deletion, or tag it as an unused sock of your main account. Thanks.— TAnthony
