I noticed that you have posted comments to the page Prehistoric art in a language other than English. When on the English-language Misplaced Pages, please always use English, no matter to whom you address your comments. This is so that comments may be comprehensible to the community at large. If the use of another language is unavoidable, please provide a translation of the comments. For more details, see Misplaced Pages:Talk page guidelines. "This refrigerator edit was a platypus non sequitur, purple"--now what is that supposed to mean? Do I need to break out the Enigma machine?? Drmies (talk) 16:27, 4 May 2010 (UTC)

Hehe. The user had changed "the region around Matobo" to "the region apple Matobo" My edit summary when I reverted it made just as much sense, and seemed to be perfectly appropriate.

On a different but related subject, I seem to recall seeing something from you somewhere in which you advocated the ability to edit edit summaries. That's something I've wished for for a long time. On various occasions I've clicked "Save page" only to notice in horror an unwanted summary; I hurriedly try to Escape in hopes that I can stop it before it goes through, but I never can. However, the edit summary editing capability would pose a daunting technological problem. Presumably, one would be able to leave an edit summary describing edits to an edit summary. But then the user would have to be able to edit that edit summary. There would be infinite recursive levels of edit summaries, and Misplaced Pages would grind to a halt. (If I'm wrong about you expressing a desire for an edit summary editing capability, or in the extremely unlikely event I'm merely repeating what you said about the subject, I apologize.) intercalated response: methinks this may be the eventual end for all cybernetic systems, including the internet, and human civilization, where there is intentionality driving it. The world is safe only for nonsentiency, yet sentiency is an inevitable byproduct of the laws of nature. God is laughing right now.Mercurywoodrose (talk) 18:56, 11 May 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for your input!

As soon as I saw that I had a message from you, I recognized your name, but I couldn't place it exactly. Where had I seen that name? Finally, I remembered that I'd seen it last night when I checked "What links here" for the article I'd just completed, John McLaughlin (artist). In the "new articles to write" section of your user page you say that it's "fun to see them go from red to blue" so I hope you were glad to see it. I had barely started a draft of the article in my userspace last June, without completing it. Then a few days ago the article showed up on my Watchlist. After making some edits to it, I eventually discovered that someone had copied it almost exactly from another site. I nominated it for speedy deletion as a copyright violation, then I decided to finally complete my version.

Oh, BTW, thanks for teaching me a new word. I was unfamiliar with intercalation. MANdARAX  XAЯAbИAM 20:03, 11 May 2010 (UTC)

Oh, that edit summary really cracked me up, thanks for that--and that was only one of three or four run-ins I had with you in edit histories the last few days. Now, you do indeed remember correctly--and look at what happened to me tonight. You hit "Save page" and you know it's wrong, and there ain't no stopping it. On a related note, I have made a talk page for my talk page, User talk:Drmies/talk, but really there's not so much action on my talk that it needs a talk. You never know, though. Such a meta talk is my old buddy CoM's idea (User talk:ChildofMidnight/talk), and I even made a meta meta talk page for him, User talk:ChildofMidnight/talk/talk, but as you can see that never really took off.

One thing you could to is become an administrator, or make me one, and then we can at least delete edit summaries with embarrassing typos. If you're holding a hammer, you can always find a nail! Take care, Drmies (talk) 05:12, 5 May 2010 (UTC)

Your note cracked me up, so we're even. I've got a copy of Gödel, Escher, Bach which you mention on CoM's meta meta talk page. I was actually even thinking of Escher as I wrote about recursion. The problem with deleting an edit summary would be that, as it shows it's been deleted, people would always imagine it had been much worse than it actually was. MANdARAX  XAЯAbИAM 09:21, 5 May 2010 (UTC)
And now this...left out a "u" so instead of a joke I have an illiteracism... Drmies (talk) 05:20, 5 May 2010 (UTC)
Well, it's certainly not what I was expecting. I thought you had coined a word to describe a typo which made one appear both illiterate and racist!

Now, that reminds me of a Get Fuzzy comic strip:

Satchel: Check it out: my new rock is grevy!
Bucky: Excuse you?
Satchel: A-ha! Got your attention, didn't I? I made that word up myself! It means green and heavy!
That's my new thing, making up words. It's cool!
Bucky: You might even say it's annoypid.

DYK for ‎John McLaughlin (artist)

Updated DYK queryOn May 13, 2010, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article ‎John McLaughlin (artist), which you created or substantially expanded. You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check ) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.

MCallister

Did you misspell his name? . Tony (talk) 09:09, 21 May 2010 (UTC)

I used the correct sort key. According to WP:MCSTJR (which I linked to in my edit summary): "For a surname which begins with Mc, the category sort key should always be typed as Mac with the remainder of the name in lowercase ... regardless of how the surname is actually spelled". MANdARAX  XAЯAbИAM 09:27, 21 May 2010 (UTC)

Pulaka

This was a fun article to write, and one of the reasons I like WP so much. I wish I had a picture, though. Are you traveling to the Pacific anytime soon? Drmies (talk) 14:40, 23 May 2010 (UTC)

I had noticed when you nominated it for DYK, and it had grabbed my attention. Congrats on yet another DYK! Sorry, I neither have a photo nor am I planning a trip to Tuvalu. However, I have grown taro, which is a cousin of Pulaka, by planting taro corms purchased from an Asian grocery store.

I've added a Taxobox which I believe is correct although maybe incomplete. It's been a while since my last biology class, and I don't know exactly how the "Schott" fits in, but I'm sure some botanist will eventually step in and complete it. MANdARAX  XAЯAbИAM 19:41, 23 May 2010 (UTC)

However, I see that Alocasia macrorrhizos, which Alocasia indica redirects to, has a Taxobox. Since your article is more about the culinary and cultural rather than scientific aspects of the plant, if you think that a Taxobox is unnecessary and/or distracting, please feel free to remove it. Chinaman

Hi. No it was certainly not my intention. What does one call from China. A Chinese, a Chinese guy a Chinaman it makes no real difference. More offensive though is the way you think it appropriate to "warn" me and order me to change it when it was entirely innocent. I sometimes despair at people like yourself who go around playing God on here that's all. Dr. Blofeld 09:37, 24 May 2010 (UTC)

I did not "warn" you and I certainly did not order you to change it. I mentioned it to you while in the most generous way possible assuming good faith. I knew that you had collaborated with Drmies on various articles, so I assumed you were a decent person, and I was merely trying to spare you the embarrassment of having your unintentional but very offensive racial slur exposed to the world. I find it difficult to understand how my friendly note, which was intended only to help you, has resulted in such mean-spirited responses from you.
Here's my note:
Hi, you may not be aware of it, and I'm sure you didn't intend it as such, but the word "Chinaman", which you used at T:TDYK, is considered to be an offensive term. You may want to rephrase your note.
And your edit summary when you reverted it:
And you are, the police? Its pathetic how people like you think it appropriate to "warn" me.
MANdARAX  XAЯAbИAM 10:11, 24 May 2010 (UTC)

If it was in good faith then I thankyou. But often it seems some people intentionally go about and tell other editors what they should do or say (and seem to hang around forums just for this purpose of playing "God" and making people retract their comments). I assumed initially that you were one of those people, given the short amount of time you contacted me oafter posting it.. Sorry, but I initially read it as a scolding (when it wasn't intended to be offensive anyway). In my country if you call somebody from China a "chink" then that's offensive. What does one officially call a man from China I wonder...when Chinaman, meaning man from China is apparently political incorrect... Dr. Blofeld 12:00, 24 May 2010 (UTC)

Thank you for your note. I assure you that I am not one of those people, and I invite you to peruse my edits and see for yourself that I have never attempted to tell anyone what they should say or do (other than to stop vandalizing). As for the short amount of time, I just happened to look at T:TDYK shortly after your post and I wanted to notify you as soon as possible in an attempt to prevent any more people from seeing it. It seemed to me that you didn't realize that the word was offensive, and my only intent was to protect you from embarrassment and the inevitable criticism which would have ensued if people had seen an offensive term for Chinese people used in an argument defending against charges of a Chinese-related POV. As for the correct term, I guess "Chinese person" or something along those lines. All I know for sure is what it shouldn't be. MANdARAX  XAЯAbИAM 21:12, 24 May 2010 (UTC)

Deletion of Thomas L. Vaultonburg

First, I must say I AM Thomas L. Vaultonburg. The Wiki page, which you edited about me has been proposed for deletion. If you have time I hope you can weigh in on it. I did not create this page and the edit I made was out of respect for a fellow poet who's name had been misspelled. I have no intentions of making major edits to this page. If it can be improved to comply with whatever objections have been raised I hope someone will. I will not because it's not my place. "Tvaulto (talk) 23:17, 27 May 2010 (UTC)" I hope that signature works. So much to learn.

My only contribution to the page was the addition of a DEFAULTSORT. I'm afraid I have no interest in researching the article sufficiently to offer an informed opinion at the AfD. Good luck (and, unfortunately, it appears that you'll need it). MANdARAX  XAЯAbИAM

Regarding your sandbox for user warnings

Should I have a bot clean it out? OpenTheWindows, sir! 00:07, 3 June 2010 (UTC)

That's actually something which I've considered, but I don't think it's really necessary. The page doesn't get enough traffic to justify going to the trouble. Most users clean up after themselves, and whatever remains is usually taken care of soon enough by myself or someone else. Plus, it doesn't really matter if some warnings stick around for a while, except for the occasional warning/notification template which adds the user to a category. Demi Moore edit

I am extremely unaware about that "edit" to that page, I guess some ip stealing hacker or someone in my family vandalized, besides I've never heard of her, thanks 24.97.242.75 (talk) 03:21, 5 June 2010 (UTC)

It probably wasn't a "hacker". Most likely, it was just someone who happened to have the same IP address before you did. Please see the notation at the bottom of your talk page, which says:
This is the discussion page for an IP user, identified by the user's numerical IP address. Some IP addresses change periodically, and may be shared by several users. If you are an IP user, you may create an account or log in to avoid future confusion with other IP users. Registering also hides your IP address.

Ścibor-Rylski

Hi, and many thanks for the copyedits. I planned to take a more hands-on approach myself, to actively fix the problematic parts of the article, but I'm pretty swamped at the moment and my mind is elsewhere. The main purpose of my notes comment was to let the inexperienced user know that this is a standard, so s/he will hopefully follow it in future edits (incidentally, I don't usually check article histories in the process - it takes time and a bigger attention span than I reserve for DYK). I just didn't realize the inconsistencies in format said "work in progress", so I should be the one apologizing. Dahn (talk) 18:45, 10 June 2010 (UTC)

Not at all. It wasn't really a "work in progress" for me, as I hadn't intended on doing anything more with the article. I appreciate that you brought the inconsistencies up so that I could fix them, and also that you're trying to educate and nurture that inexperienced user. Thanks for your note. MANdARAX  XAЯAbИAM 20:01, 10 June 2010 (UTC)
Well, no... But then again... :) Dahn (talk) 07:54, 11 June 2010 (UTC)
Hehe....

You did a great job of editing the article. Congratulations on your good work. I noticed on your user page that you're interested in at least some aspects of European military history, so I hope you enjoyed the challenge. And I hope you've now made the article DYK-ready. I'm sure the inexperienced user who created the page will appreciate all of your hard work, as well as your instruction and encouragement. MANdARAX  XAЯAbИAM 08:31, 11 June 2010 (UTC)

Many thanks, and, indeed, it was not an uninteresting experience. About it being DYK-ready: I really think the article should be double-checked by an English-speaking Polish editor, because there's still parts of it that I don't understand (including some of the refs, or bits of the text I only approximated). This unfortunately does seem to affect DYK eligibility, as it overlaps with the hooks. Unfortunately, the editor has apparently indicated s/he won't be around for a month or so... To be revisited. Dahn (talk) 14:53, 11 June 2010 (UTC)

Thank you, that surely was an unexpected perk! I am touched by the attention. (Sorry for the delay, I was mostly inactive these past days.) Dahn (talk) 18:29, 19 June 2010 (UTC)

You're welcome. As I said, I felt that you deserved it. MANdARAX  XAЯAbИAM 19:12, 19 June 2010 (UTC)

Re: The Bandit Queen (1950 film) DYK nom

Thanks for all your help (said sincerely and in WP:AGF. I did try to get another editor to help me with the nom but it appeared soon after the request, that he did nothing and I had to do it all. I saved this article from a CSD and thought I had counted correctly everything. I just finished nominating a neologism for an AfD and will look at adding to the article tomorrow. There is not much written on it and I used my sources to the best of my limited ability. I have never built a film article before. I will look it when I am fresh. Thanks, ----moreno oso (talk) 07:11, 12 June 2010 (UTC)

Ah, it's always good to see that someone has successfully rescued an article.

As you may already know, the standard DYK tool for determining article length is ProseSize. It's very easy to install and use, and it'll instantly show you the DYK-eligible article length. See User talk:Dr pda/prosesize.js for instructions. Good luck with this and future DYKs. MANdARAX  XAЯAbИAM 07:58, 12 June 2010 (UTC)

No, I didn't know about that but thanks to you now do. Someone told me yesterday to use Word. Discounting all the refs, my count came in 1600 plus. I will install that tool and see what it says. ----moreno oso (talk) 11:10, 12 June 2010 (UTC)
Nice tool. I see now that it does/did not count the infobox and and cast info section like you mentioned. This one is pretty tough on me as I've never seen the movie but now want. I've always love Zorro and several characters from it are in this movie. Plus Joaquin Murietta has been an interest to me since a friend claimed that he was related to this legendary person who is shrouded in mystery. BTW, my username is not exactly viewed by most anon IPs and even some regular users as a "savior type". About three weeks on my talkpage several anon IPs alerted me to the fact that there is a site that tracks Wikipedian editors who "Hall of Shame" deletion kings. Supposedly I'm either the crown prince or heir to the title of king. But, the site probably doesn't track all the little things I do or even the saves I make too. Lately I've been more involved in either saving articles, improving some to DYK length or creating my own. I was pretty proud of Sack tapping until it ran up against the buzzsaw of yesterday's DYK frontpage exposure. It's getting a withering attack. I'll see what I can do about TBQ but since am not awake and the Mundial futbol game now commences. ----moreno oso (talk) 11:29, 12 June 2010 (UTC)
Don't know if you are around, but I just finished adding citations and a huge copyedit. I did the majority of the copyedit in my workspace area. I have to get some relief and will post on the DYK page in about 10 minutes. ----moreno oso (talk) 16:03, 12 June 2010 (UTC)
I verified your hooks, and suggested an additional ALT which I think is catchier. As for your Sack tapping article, I'm still amused whenever I think about an innocent comment you made which is inadvertently comical when considered in the context of that article. MANdARAX  XAЯAbИAM 20:31, 12 June 2010 (UTC)
Thanks, I just noticed your reply here. Listen, as per my talkpage - I'm a little sensitive because I no longer have female bear, um, er, ah - fans. Yeah, that's the ticket. "Tap the sack" indeed. Wait, that could taken wrong too. Alt3 works for me. ----moreno oso (talk) 21:10, 12 June 2010 (UTC)

Hate to trouble you with this, but is the DYK nom good to go? From the look of the nom, it does not appear that you have approved your recommended ALT and the nom for inclusion. Thanks in advance! ----moreno oso (talk) 06:00, 15 June 2010 (UTC)

One can't verify one's own hooks. Users moving hooks to the Prep area may assume that a hook is fine when it was suggested by someone who has just verified other hooks for the same article. But if you want to be absolutely certain that that hook gets used, you could ask some other uninvolved person to check it. In any case, I definitely verified your original hooks, so one way or another your article should make it. There are a lot of hooks, and, unfortunately, patience is required. MANdARAX  XAЯAbИAM 06:23, 15 June 2010 (UTC)
Understand all. Maybe I used the wrong words. But, I think I see what you mean. From my perspective, it looks like my agreement to your ALT is either unacknowledged or open-ended. I would never touch/move the DYKs and don't think I would approve any as long as I have noms on the page. I currently have three others besides this one. ----moreno oso (talk) 06:29, 15 June 2010 (UTC)
In case you haven't noticed yet, it's been moved into Queue 2, with my suggested hook, and no further verification required. MANdARAX  XAЯAbИAM 21:33, 15 June 2010 (UTC)
Yes, I did. Thanks for your aid.----moreno oso (talk) 21:47, 15 June 2010 (UTC)
