Victory by Design is a series of documentary films on the subject of famous racing automobile marques produced in the 1990s and 2000s. The series began as a single film focused on Porsche, produced by Clive Pullan, directed by award winning film-maker Tony Maylam and hosted by racing driver, Alain de Cadenet. The film was acqured for television broadcast in the United States by the Speed Channel, with an additional documentary on Ferrari requested at that time.
Each program features exceptional racing cars from the marque, filmed and described in loving terms and then driven by de Cadenet. The New York Times described the series as "car pornography", and they have resonated strongly with autophiles.
Four more specials, focused on Maserati, Jaguar, Alfa Romeo, and Aston Martin, were also ordered at that time. The six specials were cut substantially for broadcast, but are available on DVD in full-length form.
Two additional films, focusing on Lotus and Lancia, are expected for broadcast and distribution in 2006.
