"Roman Catholic"
Please stop removing the word "Roman" from the phrase "Roman Cathoic". There are other churches in the world which use the description "Catholic" under than the church of which the Pope is the head, and the phrase "Roman Cathoic" is proper to use to describe that church as opposed to other churches. Continuing to make these changes after this warning could be grounds for being blocked from editing Misplaced Pages. Beyond My Ken (talk) 03:07, 20 October 2010 (UTC)
- Please respect the right of Catholics to self-identification. None of the 16 documents of Vatican II, nor "The Catholic Encyclopedia," refers to our church as the "Roman" Catholic Church.
- We have no problem with other churches calling themselves "Catholic" or "catholic." However, please do not insist that Catholics must, consequently, call ourselves "Roman" Catholics. It is neither right nor proper. Do some research on church history before you start revising it.
- I'd rather do some research on Misplaced Pages history, such as this, this, this and this. Consensus here, is that changing "Roman Catholic" to "Catholic" is disruptive editing, and you will be blocked if you continue it. Beyond My Ken (talk) 06:06, 20 October 2010 (UTC)
- Hey - you know what the largest archdiocese is in the United States? The Archdiocese of New York. Take a look at what they say on their official website: "Welcome to the official website of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New York!" Beyond My Ken (talk) 06:23, 20 October 2010 (UTC)
- Or how about this, from the Vatican's official website: "ADDRESS OF JOHN PAUL II TO THE MEMBERS OF THE ANGLICAN – ROMAN CATHOLIC WORKING GROUP" Beyond My Ken (talk) 06:30, 20 October 2010 (UTC)
- Or this, also from the Vatican's website "ORDINARY PUBLIC CONSISTORY OF NOVEMBER 24, 2007 - TITULAR CHURCHES OF THE NEW CARDINALS OF THE ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH" Beyond My Ken (talk)
- Or any of these references to "Roman Cathoic" from the Vatican site.
Just cut it out, please. If the Vatican uses "Roman Catholic" you don't have a leg to stand on in saying that Misplaced Pages can't. Beyond My Ken (talk) 06:33, 20 October 2010 (UTC)
