I just figured as a most noble and just administrator and a native Chinese-speaker, you might be able to deal with some of this "article"'s many problems as per my comment on its Talk page. elvenscout742 21:14, 1 January 2006 (UTC)
Tibet (again)
Hi Ran. It's me, Khoikhoi (ex Hottentot). I noticed that some anon (71.141.103.67) added a {{POV}} tag at the top of the Tibet page and left a comment about it on the talk page. It can be found here. You might want to check it out. Another thing you might want to review are the recent edits by 24.90.4.133. I'm not really sure if I should revert some of them or keep the others. Thanks. --Khoikhoi 08:03, 4 January 2006 (UTC)
Request for comment: Sarcelles
This guy simply does not learn. Yes that's right you guessed it, he's back to his old ways of posting up poorly editted prision stubs once again.
- 13:28, 5 January 2006 Heiliushui Reeducation through labor
- 13:22, 5 January 2006 Yangquan No. 1 Prison
- 16:07, 4 January 2006 Taiyuan No. 3 Prison
- 16:00, 4 January 2006 Jinzhong Prison
- 16:32, 3 January 2006 Xi'ning Prison
- 16:29, 3 January 2006 Qincheng Prison
Please message me when you get back from your trip because Sarcelles is at it again.
Abstrakt 01:28, 6 January 2006 (UTC)
even more:
- 15:11, 6 January 2006 Pingshi Prison
- 15:00, 6 January 2006 Taiyuan City Reeducation through labor
not surprising one bit at all, all of these prisons are listed on a pro-Falun Gong website.
Why he continues his campaign to push POV articles in favor of the Falun Gong after numberous warnings is beyond me.
Abstrakt 22:10, 6 January 2006 (UTC)
-New additions for January 7, 2006
- 15:45, 7 January 2006 Jiaoling Prison
- 15:13, 7 January 2006 Jiangmen Prison
He has already ignored a request to cease from this behavior of putting poorly editted prison stubs where he draws his information from pro-Falun Gong website http://www.clearwisdom.net
I mean he has done exactly what I predicted he would do after we almost moved in on a RFC last time, he layed low for a couple of monthes and once we were off his back, he went back to his previous behavior as if we never did anything in the first place. With this kind of behavior, he should be banned like he has been on the German, French and Italian wikipedias.
Abstrakt 03:21, 8 January 2006 (UTC)
- 16:27, 9 January 2006 Lianping Prison
- 16:23, 9 January 2006 Gaoming Prison
- 16:20, 9 January 2006 Panyu Prison
- 16:15, 9 January 2006 Shaoguan Prison

more added. Abstrakt 19:15, 9 January 2006 (UTC)
Taiwanese Mandarin
Hey, you've done quite a bit of work on the Chinese language pages. The Taiwanese Mandarin article was started not too long ago. Take a look if you will....--Jiang 02:16, 8 January 2006 (UTC)
Sarcelles' recent prison articles
most of them if not all of them have been nominated for deletion. However there it seems they will be kept with people such as: CalJW who happened to copy and paste this on every one of my nominations
"Keep Wouldn't be deleted if it was in the US or UK so this shouldn't be either. It is probably a much more notable than average prison and the nominator has provided no evidence or arguments to the contrary."
Please notice his use of the word probably in his explaination and rationale for keeping these articles, meaning most likely he did not even bother to check it the articles at all. Also his accusation of me not providing evidence when I provided the links to www.clearwisdom.net and www.clearharmony.net, gives me a feeling that these articles will most likely survive deletion. If only we had an IQ check for those voting on deletions *shakes head*. Abstrakt 21:45, 9 January 2006 (UTC)
Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/Chinese prisons by Sarcelles has been created by Miborovsky, however unfortunately inclusionist mob rule has spoken, using the guideline that if the article gets at least a single hit on google albeit from a POV based Falun Gong website, they are voting to "keep". Bhutan
Hey Ran,
Just wondering, I noticed that at Bhutan#Military_and_foreign_affairs, at the sub-section Communist China Invades Bhutan in Late December 2005, is POV. Perhaps you could help out. Thanks. --Khoikhoi 04:20, 11 January 2006 (UTC)

- User:Bhupinder Schwartz, a sockpuppet of User:Mofaz vandalized my user page because I reverted his POV edits on Bhutan. Please help me out here. --Khoikhoi 06:48, 19 January 2006 (UTC)
Pinyin
Ran,
Sorry for the mis-edits in the Pinyin page. I believe I still made some improvements to the previous version, but I sure do not want to mislead people. Besides the IPA and -r combinations, looks like I most of what I edited was OK. You want to verify a few others I've been working on? I tried to create similar layout between Pinyin and Zhuyin tables for comparison:

Hu tong
Hi,
Do you happen to know the pronunciation of "hu tong" in the original language? My teacher in Taiwan was a Beijing native. If I recall correctly, she told us that the characters things like that were written down with and the pronunciations were something else. She said that their name for the small lanes, the spoken pronunciation, was hu2 dur4. The final "r" may be the usual Beijing thing, but it might also replace a consonant ending in the original. Just curious. P0M 15:50, 17 January 2006 (UTC)
RE:My bio
By all means... steal it! Improve it! I'm rather "out" of creative juices after this, if you do a similar one, we can compare notes... and you probably have better Chinese than I do... -- Миборовский 02:46, 18 January 2006 (UTC)
Chinese wikibook
Hey I am looking over the Chinese textbook on Wikibooks and I'm excited about using it. Is it ok if I post to my various "learn chinese" newsgroups that the article is there? Also, is there any audio version to hear the correct pronounciation? thanks for your contribution to the book. Anne 19:06, 18 January 2006 (UTC)
DYK
Did you know? has been updated. A fact from the article Second-round simplified Chinese character, which you recently created, has been featured in that section on the Main Page. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the "Did you know?" talk page. |

just a small list of questionable material by Sarcelles

Shehezi
Good job on catching that mistake in the article about the XPCC existing in 1950, apparently another one of Sarcelles inaccuracies. It should of said General Wang Zhen of the People's Liberation Army.

"Dalai Lama's Realm"
Hi there. I'd like to know more about the term, "Dalai Lama's Realm". I haven't seen this term used before as a substitute for the political status of Tibet before the establishment of the Tibetan Autonomous Region. Could you tell me where this term comes from, and why it is preferred? --Sumple 04:40, 28 January 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for the explanation. I ask because the Dalai Lama was not always the administrative head of government in Tibet, or over all of Tibet. Not that I can think of anything better. Cheers. --Sumple 04:52, 28 January 2006 (UTC)

Re: AP
Hi Ran - regarding your Jan 19th comment on Talk:Arunachal Pradesh, see Sino-Indian War. China claims Aksai Chin in Kashmir, and occupied parts of Assam in 1962 war. Up till 2003, it disputed India's sovereignty over Sikkim.

PRC minority languages
Hi ran, I've noticed you've worked on a lot of articles related to PRC ethnic minorities. I've created a section on Names of China on the PRC's official name in the various minority languages at Names_of_China#People.27s_Republic_of_China. Since you seem to be familiar with PRC minority policy, perhaps you'd know which languages are official where, and where to find the PRC's official name in those languages. Thanks--Yuje 10:29, 30 January 2006 (UTC)
Aksai Chin on PRC locator maps
First, a true appreciation of your effort in compiling the twenty-something locator maps for all PRC provinces -- that must be some effort! But I notice that Aksai Chin is greyed out in some (eg that for Beijing) but not greyed out in most (eg that for Ningxia). May I know why? --Pkchan 12:47, 1 February 2006 (UTC)
- I see. Thanks. --Pkchan 14:40, 1 February 2006 (UTC)
Talk:Scouting
I am at work and will get to it when I get to it. You need not bait me on my talk page. And you are attributing motives to me that are not my own, coming dangerously close to being rude. See the first paragraph at Misplaced Pages:Civility And keep the discussion at Talk:Scouting, not on my talkpage. Chris 02:12, 3 February 2006 (UTC)

I'm the one who "vandalised" (creatively edited) the article on the Executive Branch. Haha I am sorry. Just be honest, did you at least laugh at my changes? -- unsigned
Stop warning me
Making corrections or additions to an article is not vandalism, it is actually the purpose and an intention of Misplaced Pages. So, stop warning me against vandalism, because I am not guilty of it.
The purpose of[REDACTED] is to allow people to add, contribute, and correct content free of restriction. This, of course, does not mean that people should be free to post false or biased information. In that spirit, I was merely removing unnecessary descriptors which show bias, and adding additional information. The fact that you continue to maintain these biases, and then accuse me of vandalism, shows that you either a.) do not believe in the central concept of wiki, or b.) that you are intentionally using your loose authority for your own purposes, and not for those for which it was meant. Stop sending me messages and stop warning me. Just as you believe you have certain rights to your opinions, I have a right not to be constantly harassed.

question from sakthi about editing
Hi how I can use different options for editing like putting box, shading, including some backgrounds, etc...etc...I do not find these editing tools in the editing page. And I also would liek to use an external editor like emacs; what I should do for that. I tried but not able to edit. Please help. Bye --sakthi 18:49, 7 February 2006 (UTC)
no prob... it's gone
About the "ping'an"... definately know that wikipedia's not a dictionary... that's the only one like that I've started... it's just that many other words and greetings regarding the word peace in many languages have been started and have great articles with them and I thought Chinese wasn't represented. Thought if I started it maybe others would add to it and make a real article... but my mistake. Mike 22:56, 12 February 2006 (UTC)
China Map
The map's not online yet, but could be soon. I'll keep working on it and will keep all informed.
China Map II
I would be eternally grateful if you would provide me with at least one of the original Adobe Illustrator files for the China maps. We'd like to be able to use these in SVG format as well. Email is bastique (at) bellsouth.net. Thank you. ℬastique▼♥♑ 17:49, 14 February 2006 (UTC)
- Umm.. they were done in Adobe Photoshop actually, so they were not vector-based. -- ran (talk) 18:14, 14 February 2006 (UTC)
- That's not good... But your note said you did them very large...If it's bigger than 1000px wide we can manage it! ℬastique▼♥♑ 18:25, 14 February 2006 (UTC)
- (The good thing though is that it's got the most accurate and up-to-date borders... which is why I based it off theirs in the first place. =) )
- What do you need it for, by the way? If you like I can make what you need for you. -- ran (talk) 19:31, 14 February 2006 (UTC)
- SVG Maps of China! Of course! To substitute for the PNG images in many projects. ℬastique▼♥♑ 20:02, 14 February 2006 (UTC)
about image_ helsinki_climate
You are right! this seems a bit too hastly done by me! sorry! the term downfall(translated) is usual in many other languages that i speak, so something i took was for granted to be correct in english.
also the 50 degrees is of course correct, it could be that i converted the degrees on my calculator in engineering mode that said 5E1.
I'll correct these as quick as possible although i'm a bit busy at the moment.
Gillis 20:55, 15 February 2006 (UTC)
- okay it's corrected.
Flora and fauna
Where to put flora and fauna for geographic articles? Sometimes it would seem to deserve its own section. It doesn't seem to fit anywhere else. Mike 03:21, 16 February 2006 (UTC)
South Chinese Sea Islands
Dear Ran I am looking for the islands in the South Chinese Sea claimed by China. China claimes almost all of them. But many of them are also claimed by the neighbors (Vietnam, Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei, Taiwan). Lock at Chinese maps printed in China. There must be severe conficts in the future. Great crude oil resources eare assumed in this area. China is conquering these islands one by one from the north to the south. A huge number of troops are sationed on these islands afer the Chinese conquest. This should be refelcted on the mao of China.
Tibet spelling
Hi Ran! You've consulted me once on pīnyīn cyrillic transliteration, perhaps you can tell me the correct variant of the TAR name in Tibetan. One version is in the German Wiki - Bod Rang Skyong Lbyongs. The second is in the English Wiki - Bod-rang-skyong-ljongs. Google shows some resources with both of them, but all the resources seem to derive from either en.wiki or ge.wiki. What do you think? Thanks. Al Silonov 09:23, 19 February 2006 (UTC)
Wu sandhi
Hi Ran,
You say that Wu has some of the most complex tone sandhi in Chinese. However, Shanghainese appears to have some of the simplest. Do you have examples or refs for this?
Thanks, kwami 22:10, 19 February 2006 (UTC)
Your comments on literal names of Chinese places
It sounds like you have a lot of very interesting information to contribute about the history and deeper meaning of Chinese place names. It would be great if you could expand on these literal translations of these names and give more of the story behind them.
I think the addition of adoption and orphanage links to these pages is as relevant as information about temples, schools and football clubs. If people have more information on the orphanages to contribute then I expect that they will eventually create dedicated entries for them.
Best regards, Mark
