Kapu refers to a caste in the Indian State of Andhra Pradesh. The members of this caste are called Kapus, Balijas or Naidus. They predominantly were a kings community in earlier times, now largely forming a predominant farmer community. It is thought that Kapus are among the earliest and original populations of South India. In modern India, they are spread across various professions.
The population of this caste is estimated to be 25% of the state, roughly about 17.5 million.
