| The China Disabled Persons’ Federation, also known as CDPF, is a national organization for disabled people established in Beijing in March 1988, aiming at representing and safeguarding the rights and interests of disabled people. The predecessors of CDPF are China Association for the Blind and Deaf set up in 1953 and China Welfare Fund for the Handicapped set up in 1984. The three basic functions of CDPF are to represent interests of people with disabilities in China and help protect their legitimate rights, to provide comprehensive and effective services to them and to supervise affairs relating to people with disabilities commissioned by the Chinese government. The emblem of CDPF is composed of the three initial letters of “Can Ji Ren” which means “the disabled” in Chinese pinyin. As a whole, it looks like just a plum flower which is one of the flowers that the Chinese appreciate most.
