Linda Mary Nolan (born 23rd February 1959 in Dublin, Ireland) is an Irish singer and actress. She is best known for being a member of the singing sisters The Nolans. The Nolans are best known for disco classic 'I'm In The Mood For Dancing' which is still loved by millions today. She has appeared in numerous West End shows and musicals, such as ‘Blood Brothers’ and ‘Prisoner Cell Block H- The Musical’.
Career In 2009 she toured again with three of her five sisters, Bernie, Maureen and Coleen for a one off, sell out tour named 'I'm In The Mood Again', at which they performed some of their greatest hits, as well as some of the songs from their latest album ‘I’m In The Mood Again’. Linda joined her sisters in their group The Nolans in 1974. Together they had worldwide success, with global record sales topping 25 million and phenomenal success in Japan alone where they sold 9 million records and, together, they out sold The Beatles! The Nolans have received over twenty gold, silver and platinum discs with album and single sales topping over 8 million. They also supported Frank Sinatra on his world tour, and appeared on numerous shows including Top Of The Pops, It’s Cliff Richard, children’s series Tiswas, Family Fortunes and Filthy, Rich and Catflap. They also performed for the Queen Mother at the Royal Variety Performance in 1978. Four of the sisters (Linda, Bernie, Maureen and Denise) also share a Guinness World Record (2007) for the most siblings to share the same role in the same show (Mrs. Johnstone in ‘Blood Brothers’). They are also the first ever European act to win the Grand Prize at the Tokyo Music Festival, which they won with their hit, ‘Sexy Music’.
Linda married her manager and soul mate Brian Hudson in 1981, and left The Nolans in 1983 to pursue a solo career, and, at the time, was dubbed the 'Naughty Nolan' due to risqué publicity photos. She performed in the role of 'Maggie May' at Blackpool's Central Pier for 10 years, clocking up more than 1,000 performances, and toured with Paul O’Grady in 'Prisoner Cell Block H - The Musical'. She also starred in the popular musical ‘Blood Brothers’ as Mr. Johnstone, and performed in may pantomimes. These include Dick Whittington, Aladdin, Cinderella, Babes in the Woods, Jack & the Beanstalk and Snow White to name but a few. Highlights of Linda’s solo career include British Theatre Tours with Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer in Shooting Stars, Gene Pitney, Mike Yarwood, Cannon & Ball, Little & Large, The Grumbleweeds, starring roles in Back To Bacharach, We’ll Meet Again and Pump Boys & Dinettes. Linda was also nominated for won Cabaret Club female vocalist of the year, and later went on to win the award.
Personal Life
In 2006 Linda was diagnosed with breast cancer, and in a cruel twist of fate, as she was recovering, Brian, her husband of 26 years who was battling skin cancer, passed away. She also lost her mother Maureen in 2007 to Alzheimer's.
After possibly the most difficult and heartbreaking period in her life, she joined Bernie, Maureen and Coleen for a one off reunion tour, and together they released a CD of some of their greatest hits, as well as some of their favourite diva anthems, and a DVD of the live show in Manchester.
