Sahba Aminikia (Born in 1981) is an Iranian classical music composer based in San Francisco, California. Aminikia was born in Tehran in 1981, and has since studied in Russia, Iran, and America. Aminikia draws influence primarily from the folk music of his homeland Iran, as well as jazz and Russian Contemporary Composition. In November 2010, Aminikia's "String Quartet No. 3: A threnody for Those Who Remained" was commissioned and performed by the Kronos Quartet at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco, California. .
Education
Aminikia studied music composition in Russia at the St. Petersburg State Conservatory under Borish Ivanovich Tishchenko. In Iran, Aminikia studied under renowned Iranian pianists Nikal Milani, Safa Shahidi, Gagik Babayan, and primarily Mehran Rouhani. After joining the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, he studied under Dan Becker, David Garner, David Conte, Conrad Susa, and also received lessons from Richard Danielpour, John Corigliano, and John Adams.
