Born in Congo from a Belgian Father Jules Neerman and a French mother Simone Jalef. | |||
Philippe Neerman grew up in Brussels(Belgium) in an artistic family. The second war left him with strong image of difficult times when he flew to France with his parents. He studied interior Design, furniture Design and management in Ghent. He left Brussels for Kortrijk where he worked for several years for Decoene. | |||
In 1967 he created his own company and was among the first European industrial Designers to tachle ergonomic studies to Public Transport with Metro of Brussels, Metro of Lyons & Marseille. | |||
From there on followed many more transport systems such as buses, trains, people movers,tramways. During that period Philippe Neerman worked extensively in the creation of Interior Design for many Buildings and Furniture Design. And at the end of his career at De Coene, Neerman designed the Philips chair for the company’s head office located in Eindhoven. | |||
Philippe Neerman was passionate about art, paintings, furniture, wood technology, composites. | |||
His major qualities were hard working, visionary, passionate, sense of detail,highly determind and curious. | |||
His strong personality wouldn't leave anybody indifferent. | |||
He claims to be at the origin of the Brussels Design Centre. | |||
Philippe Neerman, who was very involved in setting up this DC (Design Centre) since he first starting working for De Coene (Neerman was chairman Pol Provost’s éminence grise), claims to be behind the very concept of the Brussels School. As he indicated himself in the mid 1950s several fellow designers were won over to the goal of having a Brussels-based DC. | |||
He married Denise Kinet on the 15 of April 1952 and had 2 sons. Olivier Neerman and ] (architect and System thinker) who took over the family business in 1992. | |||
