Inappropriate proboards links

COIBot on meta (meta:User:COIBot/XWiki/vistarecords.us) flagged a problems with a series of link additions, probably made in good faith, to vistarecords.us. I left a note for the person adding them explaining that we don't link to forums.

vistarecords, in turn, links to a proboards forum. We have many more links to that forum, again probably innocently linked:

Proboards is a free forum hosting service. If I look at links to all proboard forums, we have a zillion links (well, more than 1000 anyway):

That's a real problem even if this was all done innocently by well-meaning editors unaware of our external links guideline.

I suggest we get COIBot to revert these.

We get a lot of those, they look legitimate ('example.com'), but they are actually not ('example.proboards.com'). vistarecords.us is plainly a 'redirect' or a frameset-cover for proboards. It is why I try to detect those, and they do get automatically reports. I automatically report ALL redirect sites except those which are manually 'whitelisted' (needs to be done on IRC for the few utterly innocent redirects and the few sites which we do allow.
Do note, \bproboards\.com\b is already on XLinkBot - and XLinkBot should also revert then when a site is redirecting to a proboards.com link. I'll have a double check for this. --Dirk Beetstra 12:27, 11 October 2012 (UTC)

By the way, I do not have a lot of mercy with cases of 'vistarecords.us' which are a redirect to 'vistarecords.proboards.com' - users can use 'vistarecords.proboards.com' if they want, so I would just meta-blacklist 'vistarecords.us'. This is blatant. Revertlisted (with a level-upping), though I am tempted to immediately blacklist.

They are either meatpuppetting or sockpuppetting, making sure to do edits after the spam edit so a simple rollback can not be performed. This takes some time to cleanup due to this technique. Maybe more will come. --Dirk Beetstra 04:37, 15 October 2012 (UTC)

  • This cannot go any higher, the maximum execution time on Google App Engine is only 60 seconds.
