Jimmy "Jimbo" Wales (born August 8 1966) is an Internet entrepreneur, most famous for his founding, with Larry Sanger, of Misplaced Pages, an open content encyclopedia that draws its inspiration from the open source model and uses wiki software. He and Larry previously worked on the failed Nupedia encyclopedia project. He also founded the website Bomis, an Internet search portal which makes most of its money through the sale of erotic images.

Wales, an admirer of Ayn Rand, owned and moderated an internet mailinglist known as "Moderated Discussion of Objectivist Philosophy", devoted to discussion Rand's philosophy. He is also a firearms enthusiast.

Wales became famous after he co-founded Misplaced Pages on January 15, 2001. He is also the Misplaced Pages's designated agent. Wales has spent over $400,000 on Misplaced Pages and Nupedia, another online encyclopedia. USA Today described him as an Internet luminary.
