Hi Jim,

Anyone who has taken gender studies 101 knows the first lesson: throughout HIStory Women's achievements do not get recorded. Even if they are well known in their times, they are not put in history books. It is true for the feminist artist. The 97% of all artist in major galleries and museums are male, that number is worse for the female musicians who try to enter into big orchestras in major orchestra, only %2 percent of musicians are female. Even though the females in art and music schools are majority. But they are not hired, or exhibited, or written about after they graduate. They are rendered invisible, voiceless and faceless. This has been the case for thousands of years.

This is the case for Misplaced Pages. Only 13% of your contributors are female and number of females featured is dismal. To help remedy this problem, the Feminist Art movement has started movement: to start entering female artist that are important to other women in Misplaced Pages. I was given this task as part of my academic work.

I have been here just for a few days and although not surprising, but nonetheless disheartening to see that all the facts, statistics about systematic male-centric patriarchal attitude towards women and women artist are true.

I chose Dr. Cicek because she has already touched and made a difference in the lives of people from Brazil to Bloomington, from Berlin to Istanbul, from India to Kathmandu. Then again how would you know that, it is obvious that you know next to nothing about feminist art or artist, otherwise you wouldn't be so quick to erase her as a male editor. Thus far my conclusion is that as is male editors who know nothing, nor desire to know anything about women artist run Misplaced Pages. Which proves to me ones again why the Feminist Art Movement is starting a campaign to change that.

Meanwhile you have countless number of males featured (I checked) whom I never heard of, nor will, in my daily or professional life. They might be important to some other people, which is fine, but I have a problem when you discriminate against women. Who makes you such a judge, what qualifies you to edit women out when you clearly are ignorant about the person or the topic?

You are however quite knowledgeable abut the rules and eager to put them to use. You may be right that my article sounded promotional in tone. True, I admire Dr. Cicek greatly. But then why not give me chance to fix it (I can easily or asks others who know her work to help with writing) before speedily hitting the delete button. What you say about the references about not using what she has written makes sense, so why not tell me that before deleting so I can find the sources you are looking for. You are right about copyright issue, I should have put "..." as I did with the Museum of Broken Relationship one later on: a. I simply forgot. b. When I consulted Dr. Cicek prior to starting the article, she had told me I was free to use any materials I wanted. I believe she now written to you about this. These are valid and constructive feedbacks, but why not tell them to me and guide me to fix them rather than deleting. Why so fast? Is that what a good editor do?

My first entry was of a few sentences and it was deleted because of that. However when I explain to the editor that Dr. Cicek is one of few people who met with HH Dalai Lama to create an art exhibit he revered his decision and gave me feedback as to how to proceed. That is what I ask of you. To help me get there, and NOT ERASE YET ANOTHER WOMEN AND CONTINUE RENDERING WOMEN VOICELESS. For those of us who has studied women history and art, this is our passion. I request that you consider such entries with due respect and with more thoughtful attitude.

I want you to ask yourself as I am asking you: are you being sexist here? Because to me, your actions and attitude is one of a classical case that unfortunately we have read in our gender studies books. And you are born of a woman. Women who are respected, will respect Misplaced Pages. Until then WE the feminist, artist and otherwise, will have to warn our brothers and sisters that thus far, for the most part, Misplaced Pages created, written and edited by men, for men. ] (]) 23:43, 3 February 2014 (UTC)

Why do you want to delete information about an international accomplished feminist female artist? Doesn't that contribute to age old sexism that also exist in Misplaced Pages? You seem to have different standards for male and female artist.

Thank you for letting me know about the signature. I am also not quite sure how to create footnotes here yet so please be patient with me. It is extremely late where I am so I have to figure that out tomorrow. If you can help me with that, that would be great. WhitetTara (talk) 00:59, 2 February 2014 (UTC)

Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to Filiz Cicek may have broken the syntax by modifying 1 ""s. If you have, don't worry: just edit the page again to fix it. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave a message on my operator's talk page.

List of unpaired brackets remaining on the page:

Thanks, BracketBot (talk) 20:47, 2 February 2014 (UTC)

Thanks, I think fix it by re-entering the information. Does it look ok now? Is there anything else I should fix? WhitetTara (talk) 21:11, 2 February 2014 (UTC)

I replied but I am not sure it went through so sorry if this is a repeat. Thank you for letting me know about the signature. I am now trying to figure out how to create footnotes. I will appreciate if you or anyone else could help with that :) . WhitetTara (talk) 01:02, 2 February 2014 (UTC)

Hi, I worked really hard on this page you deleted in before I can respond. I do have the permission of the author, Dr. Cicek's to use the section you are referring to. That is why I put it in the first place. I could easily go back and put ".." marks. I spend two days on this article and you deleted it when I went to bed before I can even respond and correct. So far my experience at wkipedia pretty much sucks.... WhitetTara (talk) 08:42, 3 February 2014 (UTC)

I let Dr. Cicek know what happened and she is going to email you directly stating that I have her permission. WhitetTara (talk) 08:58, 3 February 2014 (UTC)

Filiz Cicek

Hi, thanks for message. Please add your messages to the bottom of the talk page, or they may be overlooked. I deleted your article because

  • The article was a copyright violation. Copyrighted text is not allowed in Misplaced Pages, as outlined in this policy. That applies even to pages created by you or your organisation, unless they state clearly and explicitly that the text is public domain. There are ways to donate copyrighted text to Misplaced Pages, as described here; please note that simply asserting on the talk page that you are the owner of the copyright, or you have permission to use the text, isn't sufficient. Quoting from a copyright text is acceptable up to a point, but more than a short extract is a copyright violation, quotation marks or not. Note that the article was tagged by another editor, so it's not just me seeing a problem here
  • it did not provide adequate independent verifiable sources to enable us to verify the facts and show that it meets the notability guidelines. It is now Misplaced Pages policy that biographical articles about living people must have independent verifiable references, or they will be deleted. You gave several references. I checked the first ten. Apart from a deadlink, they either didn't mention her, were written by her, or were an interview with her. You need reputable third party references, her own work is not an independent source. This, for example, could have been used as reference to verify that she had been displayed there.
  • it was written in a promotional tone. Articles must be neutral and encyclopaedic. Examples of unsourced claims presented as fact include: so overwhelming was the response to the call for the donations representing broken relationships that the Cicek and her co-host had to stop collecting them... Cicek strives to create aesthetic outlets for artists and viewers alike, where connecting to one's primordial self is possible through our collective humanity.
  • There shouldn't be any url links in the article, only in the "References" or "External links" sections. linking to her projects in the main text is spammy.
  • Why do you want to delete information about an international accomplished feminist female artist? Doesn't that contribute to age old sexism that also exist in Misplaced Pages? You seem to have different standards for male and female artist. —even if you believe that to be true, it's not a positive way forward
  • Why don't you help me rather than block my efforts. — in fairness, rather than seek help, you have just kept recreating the article. She is probably notable, and I'm prepared to sandbox the text for you to work on, if you wish. You do need to think about referencing to independent sources though.
