There is controversy as to,why Khuzaima Qutbuddin never claimed to be the successor of Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin during last three years after/when Mufaddal Saifuddin was declared as successor. Further as per Khuzaima Qutbuddin‘s official statement, there were no witnesses when Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin did Nas on him.It seems that there is only his word against several witnesses described above.

The Dawoodi Bohras are a sub group within the Mustaali, Ismaili Shia branch of Islam. Mufaddal Saifuddin is also one of the four Omara (Rectors) of Al Jamea tus Saifiyah.

Biography

Early life

Mufaddal Saifuddin was born on 23 Ramadan 1365 AH (20 August 1946 CE), on the night of Laylat al-Qadr in Surat, Gujarat, and was given the name Aaliqadr Mufaddal (Arabic:عالي قدر مفضل) by his grandfather Syedna Taher Saifuddin. As a child he began the recitation of the Quran in Saifee Villa, Colombo, Sri Lanka.

On the milaad (birthday anniversary) of Taher Saifuddin on 27 Zilqad al-Haraam 1385 AH (18 March 1966 CE), Mufaddal received the laqab of Saifuddin, and the religious honorific title of Seqato Daawate Taiyebiyah.

Marriage

Mufaddal Saifuddin married Jawharat-u-Sharaf Bai Saheba on 22 Shawwal 1389 AH (1 January 1970 CE). They have five children: Jafar us Sadiq Bhai Saheb, Taha Bhai Saheb, Husain Bhai Saheb and two daughters.

Historic travel

Mufaddal Saifuddin was made Amirul Hajj in 1390 AH (1970 CE). After hajj, he travelled to Karbala, Shaam, Misr and Yemen. During his trip to Yemen, he laid the foundations for the construction of Syedna Hatim's rauza. After that journey Syedna Mohammad Burhanuddin bestoved upon him the religious honorific title Aqeeq-ul-Yemen in 1391 AH/1971 AD.

Succession Controversy

It is alleged by Muffadal and his camp comprising Al-Shaikh Ibrahim,Al-Shaikh Abdulhusain Tambawala, Abdulhusain al-Shaikh Ibrahim Abdulqadir that Nass on Mufaddal Saifuddin was performed several times.

Mufaddal and his camp claim on their personal blogs that a diary was written by Ibrahim Al-Yamani attributing certain passages to Syedna Mohammad Burhanuddin.

However, Muffadal Saifuddin's alleged succession has not been accepted by Khuzaima Qutbuddin the second in command to Burhanuddin, who claimed the title of the 53rd Dai of the Dawoodi Bohras Himself. Khuzaima Qutbuddin claims that Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin performed nass on him 49 years ago, a ritual during which he appointed him as his successor in private, just before he was publically appointed as Mazoon, second-in-command in Bohras hierarchy. After the death of Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin he claims that the succession was not done in London as Mohammad Burhanuddin suffered from a full stroke at the age of 100, that made it difficult for him to write, speak, or move. Khuzaima Qutbuddin explains that he never claimed to be the rightfull successor, as per Mohammed Burhanuddin's instruction to keep it secret. It is further claimed that former CJI upheld the validity of Khuzaima Qutbuddin as the rightful successor:

"Syedna Qutbuddin’s family had shared certain historical documents with me, some of which are written in Arabic, in which historical facts about the community and the events since the nass (choosing the successor) conferred by Syedna Burhanuddin on Syedna Qutbuddin in 1965 have been recorded. I examined the documents and believe that Syedna Qutbuddin’s stand of the 53rd Dai is principled,"

— Ahmadi, The former Chief Justice of India.

Followers of Mufaddal Saifuddin stage a peace march and protest half brother's claim. in many cities. Many Dignitaries met with Mufaddal Saifuddin and offered condolence. The World Muslim Congress also offers condolence in Press release.

Bohras who refuse to accept Mufaddal allege harassment, social boycott and threat of divorce.
