Kelechi Iheanacho is a Nigerian football player who plays for Taye Academy in Owerri and the Nigerian U-17 national football team. The player has won numerous awards including the African continent's most promising young player by the Confederation of African Football. Iheanacho was voted as the best player at the 2013 FIFA U17 World Cup and was called up to the Nigerian CHAN team.
In January 2014, his father James Iheanacho claimed that the player had signed an agreement to join Manchester City F.C. when the player turns 18 years of age.
International career
2013 African U-17 Championship
Iheanacho was called into Nigeria's squad for the 2013 African U-17 Championship. The player finished the tournament as second highest goalscorer with five goals, three of which came against Congo in a 7-0 victory in the group stage.
2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup
Iheanacho was called up to the Nigerian squad for the 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup, the player finished as joint second highest top scorer with six goals in seven games. He was named as the competition's best player by FIFA's technical committee who described him as an "outstanding attacking midfielder, dangerous in front of goal, good technique and vision".
2014 African Nations Championship
Stephen Keshi called the player up to the 2014 African Nations Championship team, but the player withdrew from the team in order to undergo trials at Manchester City F.C.. Keshi initially rejected the player's withdrawal but later relented when the player's father told Keshi that the family supported the decision.
