Ana María Mérida Gálvez (born Mexico City, 1922 – died August 12, 1991) was a Mexican ballet dancer and choreographer. She also worked for movies.
Biography
Ana Mérida was the daughter of the famous painter from Guatemala, Carlos Mérida. She danced as a member of the "Paloma (la novela)"and later in Waldeen's ballet company.From 1947-49 she served as co-director and director of the Academy of Mexican Dance. She taught at the drama school Escuela de Arte Teatral, led the national ballet, and was head of the department of dance of the Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes. She also authored and produced the ballet Ausencia de flores, an homage to the Mexican muralist José Clemente Orozco.
