Pepper

Hi !

I agree with your comment on the pepper-disambiguation.

The problem I ran into when trying to fix it is that it appears to me as if *most* of the pages linking to "pepper" really mean pepper as in the group of spices. Which means that:

Linking to black_pepper is wrong. Linking to the disambiguation is however also not correct, it is clear they mean "pepper (spice)" and not for example, "pepper (music)". I wrote about it on the talk-page for pepper.

What do you think about my idea: Write a new page "pepper (spice)" which talks about the group of spices commonly refered to as pepper (or peppers), and include links to the various types of peppers, such as black_pepper and chili_pepper.

Good ? Bad ? Wanna help ?

Nehru Institute of Mountaineering is a highly renowned mountaineering institute in India as well as in Asia. Yet there is very little information available about the courses they conduct. My endeavour was to attempt to capture this information thereby making it a fairly reliable source of information for both national and international students planning to do the course here. I believe the article provides a lot of detail which is otherwise not available either on[REDACTED] or externally. What I have covered is from my personal experience at the institute recently. Hence the request to maintain this information on wikipedia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kausis (talkcontribs)

Changing a pages title and url

Hi quick question, how do I edit the page title and url as I need to change Bob Ives (racing driver) to Bob Ives (Off Road Specialist). Still working on this page, updates will follow, so hopefully your be able to remove your tags.User:Fluffyghost

List of Nobel laureates affiliated with the Institute for Advanced Study

I notice that you changed "List of Nobel laureates affiliated with the Institute for Advanced Study is a comprehensive list of..." to "This is a comprehensive list of..." I had modeled that intro after the page List of Nobel laureates affiliated with the University of Chicago. But looking further I see that your version seems to be standard. Sorry I reverted your edit. You might want to also change the Chicago page. IAC, thanks for your help in cleaning things up.--Toploftical (talk) 16:06, 12 November 2015 (UTC)

Hi, Swpb,

Thanks for checking my article Project No. 1. I'm a new contributor and working to learn the ropes quickly. I will make the proposed edits and if you have any thoughts to make the article stronger your feedback would be greatly appreciated. Joshua R. Belice 17:24, 16 November 2015 (UTC)

sindikato

please don't delete it im working on it and researching more articles to justify its inclusion to legitimate Misplaced Pages article — Preceding unsigned comment added by Boweramuck99,7 (talkcontribs) 19:04, 16 November 2015 (UTC)

I have reason to believe you are a sockpuppet. You are attempting to create a page that has been removed three times before, and attempting to circumvent a block by creating the page with an altered title. I have opened an investigation into the matter. Swpb 19:06, 16 November 2015 (UTC)

absolutely not just because i started this article im that hacker im just starting a article of a subject not yet legimately put in[REDACTED] sindikato whoever have created it first deserve to have an article in[REDACTED] because it is part of Philippine culture (Boweramuck99,7 (talk) 19:23, 16 November 2015 (UTC)).

I don't believe you, Malusia22; but what I believe is irrelevant. Swpb 19:41, 16 November 2015 (UTC)

Hi there, I have made edits and contested the speedy deletion. Can you let me know if I have complied with the reason for your deletion request? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ttoopet (talkcontribs) 22:03, 16 November 2015 (UTC)

Hi Swpb

Hello how are you? You have patrolled and tagged the page https://en.wikipedia.org/Goemans_Appliances with two issues. I improve it with other references but the banner is still there? Can you have a look if all is good for the Misplaced Pages's guide lines please. For the other issue, I don't understand why this appears : The topic of this article may not meet Misplaced Pages's general notability guideline? Thanks a lot for your answer. Have a good day. ArbCom elections are now open!

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Misplaced Pages arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Hi, you marked Assurance Agency for speedy deletion because you think it's too promotional. I am wondering why. All the statements are based off factual information and sourced. JenniferJaacks (talk) 20:53, 23 November 2015 (UTC)

Moving categories

Hi, Swpb,
Please do not move categories. Instead, list them at Misplaced Pages:Categories for discussion#Speedy renaming and merging. Doing renames this way has the advantage of having a bot change the categories on all of the original category contents, the pages listed, so you don't have to. Right now, you have moved some categories but not moved the contents of the categories. This is a step that must be done whenever a category is renamed and it's usually simpler to have the bot do this rather than you having to do this manually. Now, you have to recategorize all of the contents of the original categories, which looks like thousands of pages, which is a lot of work for you.
Right now, some of the new categories you have created are empty and subject to CSD C1 deletion. Liz 08:45, 3 December 2015 (UTC)

To editor Liz:: I was under the impression that a bot would automatically see the redirects and recat the pages. I apologize if this is in error. I will not have a chance today to list everything on CfD; I would appreciate it tremendously if someone could see to it that the move is done right, instead of CSDing the new cats. — s w p b 13:12, 3 December 2015 (UTC)
I understand that this action was well-intentioned, but I don't think you thought through the consequences all the way. First, you indicated that you thought "Requested photographs of foo" categories would be subcategories of "Requested images of foo", but you didn't turn them into subcategories. Second, you assumed that a bot would magically come along and straighten everything out for you, but that's not how it works. The only way a page could get moved from "Requested photographs of foo" to "Requested images of foo" would be to change the template used on the page from {{photo requested}} to {{image requested}}. There is no bot currently set up to make those kinds of edits. And I don't see how a bot could do that, since someone needs to make a decision whether the request is really for a photo or for some other kind of image. Third, the {{image requested}} template is still hard-coded to categorize pages in "Requested photographs of foo" anyway, so changing the template would not actually accomplish anything, although I see you've made an edit request to address this. Although I'm all in favor of being bold, I'm not in favor of doing things that leave a mess that other editors have to clean up. --R'n'B (call me Russ) 16:06, 3 December 2015 (UTC)
To editor R'n'B: The intent was never for articles with {{photo requested}} to be moved (these, I assume, are truly photo requests), only for articles with {{image requested}} to be moved after that template is updated. The whole point is to separate general image requests from specifically photo requests. All a bot needs to do is move the existing pages to the new categories, and I know there is a bot for that. I thought I'd seen it respond automatically to category moves in the past. — s w p b 23:05, 3 December 2015 (UTC)
┌────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘ Another complication has cropped up. It seems there are a number of templates, besides {{Image requested}}, that automatically categorized pages in the "Requested photographs of FOO" categories. Two examples, definitely not the only ones, are {{WikiProject Biography|needs-photo=y}} and {{WikiProject United States|image-needed=y}}. I encourage you to track all these down and get them corrected, to avoid having a permanently messed-up category hierarchy. --R'n'B (call me Russ) 15:22, 7 December 2015 (UTC)
To editor R'n'B: I'm already on it; I've just requested the change to {{WikiProject Biography}}, which will address a good number of them. I've been changing other WikiProject templates with the issue as I come across them, and will continue to do so. It's worth noting that there may be some WikiProjects for which it is appropriate to specifically request a photo by default. I doubt there was any way to make this transition without a temporary mess, but I want it to be understood that I have never intended to leave a permanent mess. — s w p b 15:27, 7 December 2015 (UTC)

If you have a lot of similar editprotected requests, could I suggest that you list them all in one central place and then the person who attends to the request can come along and do the whole lot together. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 08:54, 8 December 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for the suggestion! Where would you recommend I centralize? — s w p b 13:50, 8 December 2015 (UTC)
I'll answer that question with a question: where have you discussed this renaming proposal? Perhaps that place would be suitable. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 13:54, 8 December 2015 (UTC)
That's sensible. I've done so here: Category_talk:Wikipedia_requested_images_by_subject#Edit-protected_template_edits_request. — s w p b
I have made a suggestion on how to move forward with this. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 17:35, 11 December 2015 (UTC)

I guess this is related

Please do not pre-emptively alter template documentation, as you did at Template:WikiProject Biography/doc, Template:WikiProject Brazil/doc, Template:WikiProject Comics/doc, Template:WikiProject Dance/doc (twice) and I suspect others. Template documentation is supposed to describe what the template actually does, not what you would like it to do. --Redrose64 (talk) 20:47, 9 December 2015 (UTC)

All the templates whose documentation I changed are slated for corresponding changes; they are edit-protected, and the edits are waiting for an admin or template-editor to get to them. They are part of a larger transition from "photo" to "image" categories that is 99% complete. The requested changes are present on each template's sandbox. You can revert the documentation changes for now if you want, but if you just wait for the requested edits to the templates to be completed, you'll find you won't need to, and in fact you'll want to undo the documentation reversions you've done so far. —swpb 20:49, 9 December 2015 (UTC)
To editor Redrose64: It's not merely what I would like the templates to do; it's what they will do as soon as the requested edits are carried out. It's a matter of having the documentation be inaccurate for a little while now, or for a little while later. It makes no difference to me when the documentations are updated, but they will need to be. —swpb 20:51, 9 December 2015 (UTC)
There are edit requests, yes; but many of them have not been acted upon. Even if they do go through, they might not be done exactly as you have requested - somebody might find a flaw, and discuss a modification to your intention, as they did at Template talk:WikiProject Plants#Change photo requests to image requests. Also, I have not yet found one single instance where you have added the new alias to the documentation; I've had to add a lot of those myself, such as at Template:WikiProject Physiology/doc. --Redrose64 (talk) 20:59, 9 December 2015 (UTC)
Like I said, revert if you want. It will just have to be done again later. The mock-ups were in response to a request to save the responding template-editor some work, and the documentation edits were intended in the same vein, but I don't care what you do with them. My bad for missing aliases. —swpb 21:02, 9 December 2015 (UTC)
