Hello. I'm here to talk to you about said user. The person still actively uses both this account and semi-dynamic IPs. I'm addressing you directly about this situation instead of opening a full-on sockpuppet investigation for two reasons: you've dealt with him/her before, and I opened a sockpuppet case about this in the past and don't want to be too trigger-happy to open another one because of unrelated past sockpuppet investigation experiences. Some of the recently used IPs involved will be listed below, in chronological order. The person is still performing the behavior that got him/her in trouble in the past, and doesn't appear to be interested in being productive here; likewise activity has been prevalent at Andrew McNair (actor) (history). What are your thoughts about this, and is there something you'd want to do about this?

Kohser issues
If you remember back when I made this report at SPI based on information obtained from Thekohser's Freelancer account. It was related to requested whitewashing of the Aburizal Bakrie to remove all criticism of him because of his upcoming presidential nomination. Today, Thekohser made this comment where he essentially admits to my suspicions being correct. Furthermore, at the SPI, the proxies for Thamrin2 and Antasari were blocked. However, Thamrin2 has still been editing the article and he has continued to whitewash the article of criticism. I am pretty much 100% sure that this is Thekohser. Since you were involved in the SPI back then, I wanted to let you know directly. What should be done? Silverseren 00:03, 15 January 2013 (UTC)
Revisit eeggs.com as source?
I saw your comment about the site at RSN as not RS in 2010. I researched the site a bit more deeply, and requested a revisit at RSN in 2011. There was one positive response, which went further, determining that eeggs.com had been cited as a source by multiple independent RS, but also deemed it standalone notable. I notice you did not counterargue at the time. There's now a toxic drawn-out head-down-plowing deletionist raid going on at Talk:Easter egg (media) (and yes, I bare my fangs, to McGeddon's dismay). It would be helpful if you'd weigh in here, if not there, or even pull the 2011 RSN discussion out of archive for extended response. I disagree with your 2010 analysis as "user submitted" and "self published", because the user submissions are suggestions and are vetted, and the site has a reputation and advertising motive not to publish false or unverified claims. Further, the site was published as a book in the late 90s, but is out of print. --Lexein (talk) 09:12, 25 January 2013 (UTC)
- FYI eeggs.com is at RSN again, and has one response so far. --Lexein (talk) 11:47, 27 January 2013 (UTC)

- Oh dear. Yes, the CU data is extremely stale, but I think you could get that one based on geolocation of the IP and behavior. I've not been a CU for awhile, so open a case over there. — HelloAnnyong 02:04, 16 February 2013 (UTC)
- This is probably enough. I'm about to log out - does it need an SPI? It's fairly obvious. I'm assuming she's still indef blocked? Can't remember. Truthkeeper (talk) 02:16, 16 February 2013 (UTC)

Wool series fanfiction
I don't know why you removed the Wool series Fanfiction section. Check the books on Amazon: they DO exist and they DO meet with a certain level of success. Is there something I must do to make the section legit for Misplaced Pages?
By the way, I put it back online, but that was before I realized you were an administrator on Wiki, I didn't mean to disrespect your decision, I thought it was a malevolent action.
Maxzaoui (talk) 14:37, 1 June 2013 (UTC)maxzaoui
- Just existing - or even being published - does not meet the standard for inclusion. The Wool page should not be turned into just a link farm for all Wool fanfics; in fact, the fanfics shouldn't be listed at all. Here's a comparison: it's well known that Fifty Shades of Grey started as a Twilight fanfic, but if you go to the Twilight page, there's no mention at all about Fifty Shades. Same sort of thing here. Per WP:V, everything on Misplaced Pages has to be verifiable by other sources; no original research is allowed. To that end, a lot of what was on the page was OR in some form by using the Amazon lists to draw conclusions and that sort of thing.
- Also, the tone of what was there was pretty unencyclopedic. Terms like 'Woolmaster' and 'Woolites' and whatnot are fan terms and don't belong in an encyclopedic article. "You will find what the Woolmaster had to say" is very casual and isn't appropriate. As to linking to Howey's comments on Kindle Worlds, it's irrelevant on the page about Wool since he doesn't actually mention the series in the post at all. Also, it's not usable as a reference since it's a blog post (and falls under WP:PRIMARY). — HelloAnnyong 18:01, 1 June 2013 (UTC)
Blacklist entries
When you add something to the blacklist as you did here, you really need to add an entry to the logfile too at MediaWiki talk:Spam-blacklist/log, else what you added is likely to get removed.
In that logfile, if you are unable to reference a discussion about that entry on MediaWiki talk:Spam-blacklist or Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Spam, or a COIbot report, or contribution histories, or any other evidence, then you should probably remove the entry and explore alternative solutions like blocking or page protection.
Adding the site to the revert-list of User:XLinkBot is also a good alternative to blacklisting in cases where the site can conceivably be linked in appropriate cases, but should be reverted most of the time (an example would be blogspot.com links). ~Amatulić (talk) 04:04, 9 June 2013 (UTC)
- Sorry about that, it's been awhile since I last added something to the blacklist. No specific issue on the MediaWiki talkpage, but I was able to reference a page where there's been a lot of vandalism. I can reference individual diffs, but I figured the blacklist would get blown out. — HelloAnnyong 04:08, 9 June 2013 (UTC)
Reason?

Rowspans
Hi, I noticed that you added rowspans to the Alison Brie filmography, so I thought I'd let you know that the reason why some filmography tables don't have rowspans is because the editors on those articles follow what it says at WP:FILMOGRAPHY: "Please avoid rowspan as it is a significant WP:Accessibility issue..." Range contributions
Today I was contemplating a rangeblock and was dredging up any memories of how to do it. Imagine my surprise when I found that your script, http://toolserver.org/~helloannyong/range/, was still alive and working at the Toolserver! This was very helpful, but I hear that time is running out. Given the rumblings about the Toolserver going away, is there any chance that this could be moved to https://tools.wmflabs.org/ ? Thanks, EdJohnston (talk) 00:42, 20 April 2014 (UTC)
- Ha, I forgot about that. I think that code needs to be looked at; it's quite old, and occasionally I get messages that it's running some weird queries. I'm swamped with work right now, but maybe I'll move it if I get chance. Of course, if someone else wants to take it over, I'd be happy to hand over the code. — HelloAnnyong 02:01, 20 April 2014 (UTC)
- Update on this: I've rebuilt my tool at http://tools.wmflabs.org/rangecontrib/. It should be a bit faster now, and hopefully doesn't get out of date. — HelloAnnyong 23:58, 24 May 2014 (UTC)
Sockpuppets on developed country
There appears to be new IP sockpuppets of User:Nochoje on developed country who was already an indefinitely blocked sockpuppet of User:Mywayyy - Misplaced Pages:Sockpuppet investigations/Mywayyy/Archive. His behaviour on developed country has always been consistent on that article, always trying to put back the now defunct and decade old 2005 quality-of-life index by the economist. See the mastersock's behaviour and Nchoje's behaviour. He now appears to be using random IPs that come out of nowhere and do nothing but emulate the mastersock - See and . His behaviour is seriously disrupting the process of gaining a genuine consensus per WP:BRD. Massyparcer (talk) 12:35, 12 May 2014 (UTC)
- I have opened up an investigation at Misplaced Pages:Sockpuppet investigations/Nochoje. Thanks. Massyparcer (talk) 16:43, 12 May 2014 (UTC)
IPv6 range contributions
Hello, HelloAnnyong. (I was tempted to just write "Hello, Hello", but I'm not sure if I know you well enough to be on first name terms.)
Can I thank you yet again for http://toolserver.org/~helloannyong/range/. Even though the other tool for this (now at https://tools.wmflabs.org/xtools/rangecontribs/index.php) was brought back into service long ago, sometimes it stops working, so your tool is invaluable. A very frustrating thing is that as far as I know there is no tool to do the same for IPv6 addresses. Normally, I do not place range blocks without first checking whether there are a lot of constructive editors in the range, so usually IPv6-hopping disruptive editors just get away with it. I wonder whether you would be willing to look into the possibility of adapting your tool to cover IPv6? My guess is that it wouldn't be too hard: a few modifications to some regexes or whatever you used, but obviously you will know better than me how much work it would entail. The editor who uses the pseudonym "JamesBWatson" (talk) 08:50, 16 May 2014 (UTC)
- Hmm. I've just looked at your editing history, and I see that you are not very active at present. If you don't want to put time into this, I will fully accept that. The editor who uses the pseudonym "JamesBWatson" (talk) 08:52, 16 May 2014 (UTC)
- ...and now I've seen the section above about the same tool, from a little over a month ago, where you said that you were "swamped with work right now". OK, if you are still swamped, you probably won't be able to help, though if you do find time I will be extremely grateful. The editor who uses the pseudonym "JamesBWatson" (talk) 08:56, 16 May 2014 (UTC)
- Oh wow, I thought I responded to this. Sorry! As I wrote above to EdJohnston, I've been swamped with work - and that hasn't let up in the last month. Probably won't let up for at least another two weeks, to be honest. If you can hang on for another few weeks, I might be able to knock this out.. :/ — HelloAnnyong 03:27, 17 May 2014 (UTC)
- So an update on this. I just rewrote and moved my tool to http://tools.wmflabs.org/rangecontrib/. It's currently IPv4 right now, and uses MySQL functionality to search for IPs. The server isn't using a version of MySQL that has the equivalent functions for IPv6, so I have to come up with a way to do that. Hopefully soon... — HelloAnnyong 00:00, 25 May 2014 (UTC)
- The way IPs are stored in the database, it's not going to be possible to roll this on my own. IPv6 addresses are obviously much larger, and they require more processing to build the mask to do a match. If I could roll my own function and store it on the DB, it _might_ be possible - but I don't think tools allows that. Once the database is upgraded to the newer version, then I can probably pull this off. Sorry. :/ — HelloAnnyong 02:29, 25 May 2014 (UTC)

- Yeah, toolserver is going away. Try http://tools.wmflabs.org/rangecontrib/ instead. — HelloAnnyong 04:02, 23 June 2014 (UTC)
- Something is wrong with linking there. Try, e.g., clicking on diffs and history in . And it would be nice to restore pagination of results - I get only 30 max. per IP range. Materialscientist (talk) 04:56, 6 July 2014 (UTC)
- Fixed the links. And I limited the pagination results because of how heavy the query is on the database. The amount of processing involved makes the query time out if you throw a high enough limit on it. Let me dig into it a bit more. — HelloAnnyong 13:03, 6 July 2014 (UTC)

Please try to act more constructively and less destructively on Misplaced Pages. Undoing is easy, but it shouldn't be the default option. Just a tip. Freeranging intellect (talk) 00:13, 18 October 2014 (UTC)

Range contribs
Hey, I'm getting a "no webservice" error when I try to access he range contribs tool. Is there something you can do to get it back up? It's a really useful tool! Let me know if you need more information from my end. Thanks very much, HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 22:27, 6 March 2015 (UTC)
- Should be back now. Weird that it just cut out like that... — HelloAnnyong 14:49, 7 March 2015 (UTC)
- Hello, I'm an admin from the Romanian Misplaced Pages, and when I try to use your tool it says that The URI you have requested, /rangecontrib/, is not currently serviced. Does it still work or can you fix it? Thank you!Ionutzmovie (talk) 20:09, 12 September 2015 (UTC)
- It has now gone beyond saying that the tool is not "currently serviced": tools.wmflabs.org/xtools/rangecontrib says that the tool doesn't exist. Any chance of getting it back online? The editor who uses the pseudonym "JamesBWatson" (talk) 16:02, 23 September 2015 (UTC)

English Asatro
I thought I'd add a semi-private comment to the one I made on Talk:Germanic neopaganism. I actually spent longer than a half hour on looking for secondary and tertiary sources, more like an hour by the time I finished. You're right that that group is not notable, especially for an article which is at times controversial and sometimes widely disputed. Germanic neopaganism isn't as controversial as Animal rights or Tobacco smoking, but it definitely needs a higher standard of references than seem to be acceptable for articles about trivial athletic figures and Podunk football teams. ArbCom elections are now open!
Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Misplaced Pages arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Range contributions tool
Hello, HelloAnnyong. I have recently been using your tool at tools.wmflabs.org/rangecontrib, because for some reason tools.wmflabs.org/xtools/rangecontribs/index.php has disappeared over the last few days. Your tool is very useful, and thank you for contributing it. However, its present version gives only the most recent 30 edits, which for some purposes is nowhere near enough. If I remember correctly, the original toolserver version had an option to click a link for another 30, then click it for another 30, and so on. Is there any chance you might be willing to put in the work needed to make earlier edits available? I see that you are now very much less active on Misplaced Pages than you once were, so if you are unwilling to put in the time I will fully understand (but I will also be disappointed!) I am currently assessing IP ranges used over a very long period by a persistent vandal. I checked some of the ranges while the other range contributions tool was working, but since then some more ranges have come to light. Every piece of evidence I have seen suggests that the ranges have been used exclusively by that one vandal for a very long time, so that fairly long range blocks would be justified, but I am unwilling to place such long blocks without first checking for edits by other editors in the history.
