If it's "Malacañang Palace" is erroneous, why don't we move the article then to "Malacañan Palace"?

Not so long ago a signpost was erected along Osmeña Ave., and it displays "MALACAÑAN". Perhaps we should rename the article, or should the current title be retained?

You still have the problem that officially, it is Malacañan Palace and Malacañang. So better to apply a consistent policy: are official residences referred to by their popular name and spelling, or according to the official terminology? Gareon 06:33, 16 May 2006 (UTC)

As said at WP:NC:

Generally, article naming should give priority to what the majority of English speakers would most easily recognize, with a reasonable minimum of ambiguity, while at the same time making linking to those articles easy and second nature.

If we are talking about the official usage, then the above statement from the Official Gazette makes it clear that Malacañan Palace is the name of the building itself, while Malacañang (without the word "Palace") is refers to the Office of the President. Hi all. The new P20 bills now prominently say Malacañan palace on the front, as opposed to Malacañang on backs of the older P20 bills. It's now been almost 10 years since this thread was started, and today the "n" version is now more commonly used throughout Philippine news media and the "more popular" argument definition is changing, especially among the younger generation. Even throughout Misplaced Pages, the article is referred to as "Malacañan" and it does create a large amount of confusion when visitors land here. As such I'm re-opening the discussion on the rename of article to "Malacañan" as it is now the term and spelling used in official documents, currency and news media. Let's give it a month and if there are no oppositions, let's do the move? -Object404 (talk) 15:45, 24 April 2015 (UTC)

This article seems to be too long so it needs to shorten. Only the important details must be emphasize. I'm sure that not all of the information in this article is correct and sure. Please allow me to share my ideas by giving some suggestions and requests:

• Check all the information in this article, by finding reliable references or visiting and taking a tour around the Malacañang Palace.
• Summarizing the Main Article. As i search about several Presidential Palace and some different architectures, I found out that Halls, Buildings and more about the interior of the structure was not given more attention. but i recommend that Palace halls must be separated into another article. but the section Palace Halls will remain in this article but it must be change to a Gallery.
• Lastly, I recommend this as a structure of the article:

2. History
3. Name Part 2

According to Ambeth Ocampo's Looking Back (published 2010), pages 70-72, the original Spanish term was Malacañang, as well as the street that runs beside it as Calzada de Malacañang. The Americans removed the g for having difficulty to pronounce it, thus it became Malacañan. However, President Ramon Magsaysay had placed back the g, making it Malacañang once more, and it is official. I think we must put back the g as well. Arius1998 (talk) 12:14, 24 September 2012 (UTC)

I agree with you Arius. According to Misplaced Pages's rule on naming articles (WP:Article title#Common names): "Misplaced Pages does not necessarily use the subject's "official" name as an article title; it prefers to use the name that is most frequently used to refer to the subject in English-language reliable sources." The only reason why the title was changed was because it was "Official" despite being the most popular thus disregarding the Misplaced Pages rule. I will be reverting it back to "Malacañang". I don't really know the importance of the official change or why was it officially changed, but I think the change is grammatically incorrect.

In Tagalog, when words (usually adjectives) ending in the letter 'n' or a vowel, is followed by a word that starts with consonants, like 'p', we always add suffixes '-g' or '-ng' or sometimes '-m' to relate the two words. For example, 'gahamang pulitiko', 'pitong gatang', 'talambuhay'. If the first word ends in consonants other than 'n', we insert the word 'na' in between the two words to relate them, e.g. apoy na mainit, tigib na damdamin, etc. Therefore, using Malacañan Palace is just bad grammar. I am sure that any Filipino speakers would say that Malacañan Palace does not feel natural when spoken. I think the present government should officially correct themselves like Magsaysay did in 1953. Maybe, they don't speak Tagalog in Malacañang Palace? Any comments? (I'm also correcting my comment after I edited the article. I just want to add that during the American period, Malacañang Palace was used interchangeably with Malacañan Palace. Whether it was officially changed to Malacañan, I haven't found a proof yet. But books I found from the Spanish period spelled it as Malacañang Palace. I added my references to the article after I moved it back to Malacañang Palace.)
