Saptaparna Chakraborty is an Indian playback singer. She emerged as the runner-up in one of the most popular singing reality show-Amul Star Voice of India on Star Plus television, in the year 2008.
Early life and background
Saptaparna hails from a musically rich Bengali family. Her father Mr. Subrata Chakraborty and mother Mrs. Suparna Chakraborty are both bankers in Assam. She started singing at the age of 2 and her first stage show was at 4 years. Parents taught her the first musical lessons and her paternal aunt Mrs. Jayashree Goswami is an All India Radio artist and has been a guidance to Saptaparna from her very childhood. Her grandfather Late. Shri Sunil Chakraborty was a freedom fighter during the British rule and had tutored many patriotic songs to his grand-daughter. Saptaparna started to learn Hindustani classical music at the age of 6 from her first music guru Shri Ashok Debroy and continued to do Visharad from Bhatkhande Music Institute, Lucknow. She had the opportunity to learn Hindustani classical lessons from Pritam Bhattacharjee, one of the dearest disciples of Padma Vibhushan Pandit Jasraj. She has also been trained in Rabindra Sangeet and Nazrul Geeti. Saptaparna was one of the few child atrists to perform in Doordarshan Silchar at the age of 7.
As a child,Saptaparna was a very bright student in school and had also received the overall best student award in her 10th standard. She always had dreamt of becoming a doctor but music was her first love. She was highly appreciated by Padma Bhushan Pandit Jasraj when she sang one of his bandish to him during a sudden meeting in Kolkata and the latter instructed her to pursue singing as her profession.
Saptaparna developed interest in learning different languages. Apart from her mother tongue Bengali, she is fluent in Hindi English Malayalam Tamil and Urdu.
Singing career
Reality Shows
Saptaparna participated in Zee Bangla Sa Re Ga Ma Pa in the year 2006, coming in sixth place. There she was judged by exalted personalities like Talat Aziz Late Smt. Sipra Basu Padmashree Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty Usha Uthup Shantanu Moitra Raghab Chatterjee and others. She then went on to participate in Amul Star Voice of India in the year 2007 and was amongst the top 33 contestants. She rose to fame in 2008 as the runner up on the second season of Amul Star Voice of India hosted by Shaan (singer) and judged by Ismail Darbar Sukhwinder Singh & Monty Sharma. Being amazed with her first performance in the show, the song "Key sara sara", Ismail Darbar named her Roshni. She also was one of the contestants of Colors television's IPL Rockstars in the year 2010, alongside other fames of various reality shows from all over the country.

Saptaparna has done more than 300 live shows round the globe and has collaborated with many renowned artists like Alka Yagnik Srinivas (singer) Shaan (singer) Mahalakshmi Iyer Naresh Iyer Sukhwinder Singh Haricharan etc. In 2012, Saptaparna was invited to perform in one of the much celebrated cultural event of Southern India - The Hindu November Fest along with Srinivas (singer). This event titled "Remembering Rajesh" was performed in Bengaluru Chennai & Coimbatore,dedicated to the erst while Bollywood superstar Rajesh Khanna.

Playback
Saptaparna has done playback in more than 7 languages. She has worked with various eminent musicians in India and abroad. Her first break in Kollywood industry was given by the music maestro Ilaiyaraaja. She has also lent her voice for the legends of Mollywood industry such as Ouseppachan Deepak Dev & M. Jayachandran. Her first break in Malayalam film industry was given by Afzal Yusuf in the movie Immanuel (film) directed by one of the pre-eminent directors Lal Jose, starring the legendary actor Mammootty. Saptaparna's Malayalam duet song with Job Kurian was a chart buster and has topped Mirchi top 10 for almost an year. he has worked with the very well-known guitarist & composer Rex Vijayan. Saptaparna has collaborated with Sachin & Sreejith,popularly known as Yuvvh in many of their ventures. She has also sung in many commercial & devotional albums.
Black n White-The band
In the year 2014, Saptaparna along with some of her friends formed the band Black n White(also known as BnW). The other members are Christopher Wilson,Febin Chacko,Chris Jason,Michael Timothy & Edwin Johnson. This band comprises of members from three different cultures(Bengali Malayalam & Tamil). They have so far released two Hindi cover mashups.
