Samuel Whitcomb Hyde was born on April 16, 1985 in Fall River, Massachusetts to Lena (née Goldstein) and Joseph Hyde. He was raised in a secular Jewish household and attended B.M.C. Durfee High School. He scored 1560 (out of 1600) on his SATs, and was accepted to Carnegie Mellon University. After one year at Carnegie Mellon, he transferred to the Rhode Island School of Design and graduated in 2006 with a Bachelor of Arts in Film, Animation and Video.

Hyde created Million Dollar Extreme (MDE) in 2006 as his senior project at the Rhode Island School of Design. He stated MDE's mission was to "challenge cultural norms, ask big questions, tackle stale paradigms and enstill [sic] an inquisitive spirit into the minds of the 21st century generation."

Hoaxes

Hyde has been incorrectly reported as the perpetrator of numerous mass shootings and terrorist attacks by internet trolls. The first instance of this hoax was the Umpqua Community College shooting. Hyde has also been blamed for the 2015 San Bernardino attack, the 2016 UCLA shooting, the 2016 Orlando nightclub shooting, the shooting of Alton Sterling, and as being responsible for the suspicious death of a black man in Piedmont Park. Most of the hoaxes state that Hyde is a white supremacist, and complain that "he can't keep getting away with it."
