The main language spoken is ]. The name of the city may mean "1000 houses" (from Turkic "bin/min", meaning "1000 / thousand", and "eb/ev", meaning "house"). A similar, albeit more likely etymology, is from '''"ban ev"''' (a large house / tent), an expression mentioned in "Kitab-i Diyarbakriyyah". The main language spoken is ]. The name of the city, however, is like most other towns in East Azerbaijan, of the Old ]/] origin, means "1000 houses". The main language spoken is Azeri. The name of the city, however, is like most other towns in East Azerbaijan, of the Old Azari/Tati origin, means "1000 houses".
