The Fiat Freemont is a D-segment crossover SUV produced in Mexico by FIAT from 2011 to 2016. The car replaces the Fiat Ulysse as well as the Dodge Journey for the European market.

== Overview ==

This is the first model resulting from the alliance between Fiat Group Automobiles and Chrysler Group; the car belongs to the same family as the Dodge Journey, from which it derives strictly. Freemont was presented at the Geneva Motor Show on January 24, 2011, and is on sale starting 29 May. The production of the vehicle takes place at the Chrysler plant in Toluca de Lerdo, Mexico. In the global strategy of Fiat SpA, Freemont also has the task of covering the Dodge Journey market in Europe, after the withdrawal of the Dodge brand from the European market at the end of December 2010. The vehicle produced 26,000 units in 2012 and 20,000 in 2013.

== Features ==

The Fiat Freemont is proposed as an heir and European version of the Dodge Journey, from which it largely inherits the exterior design, with the exception of the front bezel and a few other details. Compared to Journey, the interior has been completely redesigned, and shows a significant improvement in quality and finishes, to adapt the car to the tastes of the European public. The same interior will then be adopted on the twin Dodge Journey starting from MY 2011.

Slight changes, even to the chassis, are present in the restyling of the Dodge model sold on the American market since 2011. The car is available in five versions: Base, Urban, Lounge (from November 2011), Park Avenue (from November 2012), Black Code and Cross (from July 2014). In 2015 the range was thinner and only the Lounge and Cross versions were listed, both with the 170 HP 2.0 Multijet engine, before the production stopped in the middle of the year, due to the unfavorable Euro / dollar ratio. Nevertheless, the vehicle remained on the list until the following year.

== Mechanics ==

Unlikely the American cousin, the Freemont differs mainly for diesel engines (the classic 2-liter MultiJet produced in Italy by FIAT, while the 3.6-liter 280hp V6 petrol engine is of Chrysler Pentastar origin), due to the different adjustment of the trim and for the substantial changes to the suspension department, aimed at making the car closer to the tastes of the public and the European market, improving the behavior on the road of the vehicle, its dynamic and agility, while maintaining good ride comfort; to this end it intervened by modifying the setting of the shock absorbers and suspensions, whose attacks were stiffened. Furthermore, the geometry of the front suspension has been improved to reduce the roll angle. Traction is available both front and full AWD (with automatic transmission).

== Engines ==

The Freemont is powered by two engines: a 2.0 liter Multijet II diesel and a 3.6 liter V6 Pentastar petrol. The 2.0 diesel, Euro 5 approved, is produced in two power levels, from 140 hp and 170 hp (built by Fiat Powertrain Technologies in the factory of Pratola Serra) is available both with 6-speed manual transmission and 6-speed automatic transmission (the Chrysler 62TEA), the latter reserved only for the most powerful version, with only four-wheel drive. The 3.6 petrol develops a maximum power of 280 hp and is combined with AWD and the 6-speed automatic transmission.
