Darul Huda Islamic University is an Islamic university based at Chemmad in the district of Malappuram, Kerala, India. Darul Huda is a member of the League of Islamic Universities. Dr.Bahauddeen Muhammad Nadwi Qadri is the Vice Chancellor while Sayed Hyderali Shihab Thangal is the current Chancellor of this institution. More than a dozen Arabic Colleges for higher Islamic education are affiliated to the Dar ul-Huda. At present, the Dar ul-Huda has more than 1000 students and almost 60 teachers on its rolls.It has made its presence felt in the educational field of Kerala.

History

Darul Huda was established in 1986 as an Islamic college, with the name Darul Huda Islamic Academy. It is being run by Samastha Kerala Jamaitul Ulema Samastha (EK faction).It was established as an Academy, not Madarsa to present a modernistic view of the institution which teaches traditional religious subjects with modern languages sciences. The Urdu speaking students of north India are also enrolled in various courses of Darul Huda.

Darul Huda has memberships in various federations of global Islamic Universities including Federation of the Universities of the Islamic World. This helps the graduates of the University to continue their higher-study in different premier universities. Darul Huda has signed different types of Memorandum of Understandings with many Indian and international universities including International Islamic University Malaysia and with the University of Kuwait.

Placements

The graduates are working in mainstream and some have acquired positions in academics and administration also. Dr.Faisal KP Hudawi was appointed as Director of Aligarh Muslim University Kerala branch recently in 2019. Zainul Abid Kottakulath, a graduate of 14th batch works for the BBC News in London as Digital Journalist while another alumnus Majeed Hudawi is employed with Al-Jazeera News

In 2019, Dr. Mahmood Kooria, graduate of Darul Huda, was in news for getting award of 2,50,000 euros (2 crore rupees) Veni grant for one of his project by the University of Leiden. Before that, Muneer Aram Kuzhiyan and Shihab Pallippuram had bagged the coveted Fulbright scholarship to pursue doctoral research in US universities.. Many graduates of Darul Huda are currently studying in top UK universities such as Royal Holloway, University of London and the University of Glasgow on merit-based scholarships provided by the institutions.

Publication

It publishes a number of journals and magazines in various languages including Thelicham’, an Islamic cultural magazine. It has a wide reach across the State. The Vice-chancellor of the Darul Huda University is the chief-editor of the magazine.

Alumni Association

The alumni Association of Darul Huda Islamic University is Hadia (Hudawis Association for Devoted Islamic Activities). Hadia aims to enrich and empower the Muslim community.
