mixed-species feeding flock
Peripheral North American species
Thanks, Jim, for the info on finishing up N American birds, and thanks for the references. For now, I'm working with Geographic, Sibley and Handbook of Birds of the World, and information seems reasonably complete. Feel free to embellish as you see fit. A few of the missing flycatchers and sparrows seem to be more

- Yep, it certainly was an exhausting trip, but a good one to get! Not been for the Black Kite yet, but may yet do since it has turned out to be the eastern race lineatus (a potential split, according to some). On the L-b Murrelet, can you find any refs for its breeding behaviour? I have a nasty suspicion that much of it actually refers to pre-split Marbled Murrelet info, rather than genuinely applicable to L-b. Certainly everything given in Lynx HBW is (the trees cited are all N American). At least the northern half of its breeding range (notably Kamchatka) is shrub tundra habitat, not tall forest at all, tho' it may be in forests in Hokkaido and Sakhalin. - MPF 14:55, 16 November 2006 (UTC)

Galliformes- Craciformes
Hi Jim. Thanks for solving my ID request of Commons:Cascais20.jpg, the Bare-faced Curassow (Crax fasciolata). Since there was no article written yet about this species, I thought a good stub should be a start. But then I ran into the controversy about the order. The Commons and the en.wikipedia put the Cracidae into the order Galliformes, while other wikipedias and Zoonomen put it in the Craciformes. I don't want to stir up a taxonomic hornets' nest by choosing one side or another, since I'm not an expert in these matters. Perhaps you can look into this and find out whatever is right. Rook
I have done some work on the Rook page, which is currently a disambig page; the only links left there are to Rook (bird) and what should go to Rook (disambiguation). There are many links to the Rook (bird) page, so I have NOT done the moves Rook to Rook (disambiguation) and Rook (bird) to Rook.
- I wonder if you knew if there was a bot to do this or if it is worth changing anyway, so that the bird has its own page (like Blackbird does).
- Should this be done by an administrator?
- Is it best to leave it as it is? because the work rook has a lot of uses especially in games. Snowman 21:01, 18 November 2006 (UTC)
- I have done a partial tidy up of the what links here for the Rook and Rook (bird) pages. I have come to a stop until I am more sure of what I am aiming for. Do you think Rook should have its own page like Blackbird or should Rook be the disambiguation page? Incidentally, there are 67 links and redirects to Rook (bird); a few more links go to the Rook page that should go to the Rood (bird) page. I will check to see if there are any Wiki guidelines. Snowman 15:13, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
- One aspect of this hinges on what might be the most likely search target, and I am not sure in this case. If there is no overall obvious search target winner, I might move the links that should go to Rook (bird) that actually go to Rook; and overall, no pages would be moved, but some links are corrected. What are your observations? Snowman 16:47, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
- My feeling is that the most likely target would be the bird - difficult to see any of the others as convincing targets. jimfbleak 19:23, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
- So would I, but rook (chess) also has loads of links showing how popular chess is, so there may not be one primary target here. I think that at the present time I will not move any pages, but I will tidy-up the remaining redirects on the rook page, which is a disambiguation page. How does that sound? Snowman 23:57, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

The National Bank of Georgia (U.S.)
I am wondering if you could explain your deletion of The National Bank of Georgia (U.S.), an article that has been requested for more than a year, based upon the explanation of "no content."

Thanks for the restoration, though I'm still a bit confused as to what was going on.

Halego deletion
Hi Jim.
I was wondering if there is any possible way to get my page undeleted. It was first deleted by RHaworth, then by Moriori, because of a copy and paste of the Iced Earth page, so I created a whole new page from scratch.
It was then deleted by Shell Kinney, but at the time I didn't know why, so I just recreated it. As it turned out, she deleted it because the page was about a non-encyclopedic subject. The page was finally deleted and protected by you, because of multiple recreations.
Now, I was wondering if there is any possible way to get my page back. Shell deleted it because it fell under A7 in the Criteria for Speedy Deletion. A7 states that the page can be deleted if the article "does not assert the importance or significance of its subject." It does not, however, say that a page can be deleted if the article itself is about a non-encyclopedic subject, only if the article doesn't assert any significance of the subject.
If I rewrote the article to be more assertive of the subject's importance, would I be able to keep my page up?

Halego
Thanks Jim. I understand everything, and I'll get right back on rebuilding the article... as soon as the band puts out a signed CD... should be a while from now...
Autumn Sun Article
I would just like to inquire on the reasons for you deleting my article. I do not understand what you mean by "nn band". I did supply links, whereby you could have verified the band's authenticity. However, I must admit that I neglected to mention that this band is currently unsigned. Please consider my article for reinstatement. Apologies for any inconvinience, Robert.
Please explain your speedy deletion the ChatXPlanet article I did.
Hi Jim, Seems that you instantly deleted an article I did as for being (unenc) but you have no specific knowledge of IRC clients or community based web sites and obviously they are included in the Misplaced Pages website (where I gained the knowledge of their existance to begin with) so why was my review article deleted instantly by you? I could understand it if I didn't have pertinent information regarding birds, but I am not a bird watcher, I am a community watcher and was performing an in-depth review of a community chat site that, again, I gained knowledge of through Misplaced Pages itself.
Frankly, I find the deletion offensive and with complete disregard to others' freedom of opinions and voice considering we both deal in completely different aspects of life. I can't speak for others, but it seems you delete based on your own personal biased views of what is classified as 'relevant to the informational society'.
Warm Regards
Kogswell Cycles Deletion
Hi Jim,
I am a newby at Misplaced Pages, so please forgive me any sins I might commit.
Kogswell Cycles recently put up an entry, which was deleted restored, and deleted again. Now it appears to be protected against re-creation. You were one of the administrators involved in the process.
http://en.wikipedia.org/Kogswell_Cycles
I did not see the orginal Kogswell entry, but I can definitely tell you that Kogswell is deserving of a Misplaced Pages entry. Kogswell has a large and growing fan base, and the company is making a real impact on the cycling world. See comments at:
http://en.wikipedia.org/Talk:Kogswell_Cycles
Here are a few links to entries on other bicycle companies with some similarities to Kogswell:
<http://en.wikipedia.org/Rivendell_Bicycle_Works> <http://en.wikipedia.org/Richard_Sachs>
Whatever problems existed in the original entry can be eliminated, or a new entry can be created by someone with no affiliation whatsoever with the company.
How can members of KOG (the Kogswell Owners Group) petition to have the company name unprotected to allow for a new Misplaced Pages entry? Any help you could give would be much appreciated.
I have no affiliation with Kogswell whatsoever. I do not even own one of their bicycles, although I will definitely buy one when they come out with a model that is big enough for me!
Sincerely
Forbes Bagatelle-Black

Submergent plant
Can you tell me why you deleted the article? I think since the article emergent plant exists, so should submergent plant. --Exteray 16:15, 26 November 2006 (UTC)
- I think we should just tag it as stub instead of deleting it directly. Contributors would expand on this article in the future and if no one does so you can then delete the article. Even if it is just a dictionary definition, submergent plant is one of the three primary categories of aquatic plants and it definitely deserves a spot in an encyclopedia. --Exteray 16:27, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

Help With Posting Images
Hi Jim. Sorry to bug you with simple stuff, but I've read through the pages on image posting, and I am still confused. I would like to post the image of the bicycle on this page, http://www.arpan.com/english/product.asp?id=3, on the[REDACTED] page Mixte. The photo shows a classic mixte bicycle, patterned after French bicycles from the 1950s. I have talked with the owners of the website on which the photo resides, and they would be tickled pink to have this photo in Misplaced Pages. Is there a way to post the image with proper credit/copyright information, or are all such photos from commercial websites not allowed?
For future reference, could you please point me to a page where gumbies like me can ask questions to Misplaced Pages experts without bothering admins such as yourself? Thanks very much. Fbagatelleblack 18:54, 28 November 2006 (UTC)

DUMBA, Lusty Loft Deletion
Hi, I noticed you delete both my pages for "DUMBA" and "Lusty Loft Parties". I had JUST finished writing them, I spent about 60 minutes reseraching and working very hard on them and did not save a back up of my work off line because I trusted this community take the JOB of historical archival seriously. As it happens, I feel very strongly that both of these pages should be here and I also just finished composing an email message to about 10 people inviting them to come to Misplaced Pages and edit the pages I had created.
Now I have to start all over again with my work (like I said, you purged an hour of work that I did not save elsewhere). And so do I trust Misplaced Pages to be good place for my historical work? Or is some bozo going to come along again and delete my pages without asking or really caring what he's doing?
So what gives Mr. Jimfbleak? Just who do you think you are and what gives you the right to trample on other people's hard work? I think your actions are questionable and need review by a larger community of uers. I'm pissed and I want an answer.
You actions were not in accordance with the deletion policy Misplaced Pages:Deletion_policy. Please review your actions and explain yourself. You will be held accountable for your acitons. Jasonfb 18:12, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

Image:Palmvult.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Palmvult.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Misplaced Pages articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
- On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. User:Rajsmells block
I see you've blocked Rajsmells for a month for persistent creation of nonsense. I wonder if a permablock might be appropriate on the grounds that the username fails WP:U as a defamatory username (per WP:U: a username should not be used to defame other people, companies or groups, regardless of whether they edit Misplaced Pages.). The user's first action after registering was to create an attack article about someone called "Neeraj"; I assume this is the "Raj" whom the username is intended to insult. I warned Rajsmells about this but it seems they've done nothing about re-registering (except creating more nonsense, including mentioning this Neeraj in some mild vandalism to my userpage. Regarding a recent block
You recently blocked User:Lazylaces for 24 hours for being a "pest." While I question the block, I question more so the reason for it. It's inappropriate to call someone that to their faces. I also don't see anything in line with the contributions to warrant a block, much less a 24 hour one. Please be sure to assume good faith. Thanks. —Pilotguy (push to talk) 20:45, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

User:Msoamu
While I'm not an admin and only have a vague idea about normal blocking periods, I feel the ban on Msoamu is both warranted and useless. His article-space edits have been POV and agressive/reactionary, highlighted by the challenge he posted on his userpage; it doesn't seem like he intends to be a Nice Editor, but I thought I'd just watch him and see. However by blocking him I suspect that he's just going to create another account; in a way I feel like attempting to reason with him, but I get the impression it's unlikely to work. I've got Barelwi on my watchlist, since there's a Criticisms section he's removed twice; that's probably where he'll come up again if he does create another account.
I might suggest that 6 months is too long, only for the reason that if he starts using a new account it's a slightly cleaner sheet, while if he comes back to the old one there's a block in the log for others who come over later. On the other hand, a new account can be slapped with {{sockpuppet}} so... I'll leave it to you to decide, seems fairly balanced. --Firien § 23:12, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
- Ah yes, I forgot about that! Glad that's sorted then. --Firien § 10:03, 4 December 2006 (UTC)
User: Regarding the selfish deletion of Room 19 site
Thanks for deleting my article i decided to write for my little brother I'm actually 27 and I think teenage drivel is a bit rude and rather childish on your part not mine. I thought the process of having wikkipedia was to inform others of information in which they may be able to use for a good purpose. I also found it rather amusing that you decided to delete my article for its creativity when yours doesn't pose any risk of deletion because of how unoriginal and placid it is. I hope you understand because of your age (judging from your photo "cheers")that, the sort of information that was trying to be posted was not negative rather out of your generation and don't be confused when you cannot understand the proper content or purpose that is trying to be expressed. I plead to you to get off your high horse and look at reality young people will run this world one day your time has come and gone bad luck for you. Learn to give up when defeated.

Hello Jimfbleak
A few seconds after an article has been created you deleted it without some further explanations. Even an article on a subject, you don't really seem to understand as it has nothing to do with birds ;-)
Please be more precise and less self-satisfied thanks.

Dear Jim, yesterday you deleted the "Gimhae Foreign Language High School" entry. Can you let me know your reasons? I am an ESL teacher. I found a few other entries about foreign language high schools in South Korea. One in particular is a private school. The entry I made is in regards to a public school in Korea, and therefore has no advertisement value. I have already been granted permission by the school's administrator, and don't understand why you would take it upon yourself to delete my project. I am thankful I hadn't put too much time into it, but nonetheless feel it was a bit harsh and unkind. I would like an explanation, aside from incorrectly stating it was an advertisement.
Kindly,

Dear Jim, I just read your response indicating the reason you chose to delete the page I had created. I am new to this, so I didn't understand, but to now. If you have any further suggestions for the newbie I am trying to learn as much as possible.

Angry Nintendo Nerd
Hi there! I noticed that you flagged Angry Nintendo Nerd as a deleted page "protected from recreation," however the page is not protected. Just thought I'd give a heads-up. Have a good night! --NMChico24 07:40, 7 December 2006 (UTC)
- Also, Reptile Zoo is the same situation. --NMChico24 07:42, 7 December 2006 (UTC)
- Reptile Zoo should not have been deleted. What recourse do I have against the administrators who are ruining Misplaced Pages? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Jamidwyer (talk • contribs) 08:49, 7 December 2006 (UTC).
User:Evilarion
Wouldnt we be better to just indef him? He has only 3 edits (all vandalism) and countless attack pages like OBBEY WOULD BE UNDER A GAY FAGGOT. Thoughts? Glen 18:16, 7 December 2006 (UTC)
- It might be nice if appropriate warnings were placed on the talkpage. We NP-patrolling non-admins can't see the previously-deleted pages, so without warnings on the talkpage can't tell if the editor has created one or one hundred like that. Tonywalton | Talk 18:40, 7 December 2006 (UTC)
- I'm not talking about multiple creations/deletions of a single article (yes, the deletion log shows that), I'm talking about multiple creation of single attack (or otherwise vandalising pages which are deleted very quickly and not otherwise (for a non-admin, who pertforce relies on records on the offender's talk page) logged. This isn't a dig against admins, it's a plea mainly for people in general to place the appropriate warning tags on user talk pages. If User:Evilarion has created "countless" attack pages (which I am not disputing) there is no evidence of that available to a non-admin. Sorry if I wasn't clear!
- As for my non-admin status being through choice, I've never been nominated, and don't think that a self-nomination is appropriate (if I were fit for the job perhaps someone might have noticed. Perhaps I'm wrong). Cheers, Tonywalton | Talk 22:29, 7 December 2006 (UTC)
- Warnings taking time? Tell me about it! And I've never managed to get popups to work either (they don't particularly like my browser). I'm as guilty as anyone of tagging an article without a talkpage warning, when things get busy. Still, a user having created "countless" attack pages with only one warning (mine) on the talkpage seems a little odd... Cheers, Tonywalton | Talk 12:03, 8 December 2006 (UTC)
Deletion of Longbowmen
Hi, I did not see a comment on the Deletion of Longbowmen of Geoff. It seems reasonable to expand upon the Geoff (Greyhawk) page, but please let me know if this is not possible. I would like to know in what ways the content behind the role-playing game can and cannot be expanded.

To Jimbleak
Hi, please wait a bit before deleting an article. I just started to write one, which I intented to make a bit long. So, I first made a frame of the article, but soon it was deleted. Stanly Corans work at UBC.
Question: 11:48, 2006 December 2 Jimfbleak (Talk | contribs) deleted "The Intelligence of Dogs" (advertisement,) I was surprised to see this as I don't recall a rfd on this page. Stanly Coran is probaly one of the major researchers on the subject and the book in question is one of his most important publications. The article was hardly an advertisment for the book, in fact it provided a sumary of it's major findings..cmacd 13:30, 8 December 2006 (UTC)
Tonywalton nom
Hiyas. I've removed the misplaced nomination for Tonywalton from the bottom of Stemonitis' RFA nom. You need to follow the instructions at the top of the page for creating new nominations, though if you'd like I can create the page for you and drop the link here. Syrthiss 13:32, 8 December 2006 (UTC)
- There's a link near the top of the RFA page. Go to Misplaced Pages:Requests for adminship/nominate and follow the instructions. (Radiant) 13:37, 8 December 2006 (UTC)
- Looks mostly fine. I had to revert your change to the nominate page...your change made it so anyone from now on who tried to nominate someone would nominate Tony. ;) Syrthiss 15:16, 8 December 2006 (UTC)

Alice Springs Public Library
I am a little disappointed to find that an article I was writing (my first) was deleted. I understood the suggestion that it was SPAM or advertising and had attemted (or was attempting) to rectify this when it was deleted.
Being as many public library services have[REDACTED] entries I was attempting to bring this entry into line with existing pages of similar services.
Following the prompt I was given when the page was flagged, I set up a talk page for the entry and no explenation was given on that page as to why my changes were unsuitable.
I am aware I was going into and out of the page frequently, this is because my net connection has been unstable (being in the remote center of Australia) and i was hoping to be able to make incremental changes to bring the entry into line.
Is it possible to have this page unlocked so that I can attempt further work to make it suitable?
Cheers

Deletion of "BestAdultAwards"
Hi Jim
Greg here. I saw that during the beginning of the build on my "stub" or article on The Best Adult Awards, it was already deleted.
Perhaps I missed it but is there a way to save a rough draft or beginning article so that one has time to notify potential and expected contributors, add citations, etc... and that the seminal thing is not removed?
I don't know if it's recoverable but I was hoping it could be - and then put in "rough" mode(?) or whatever until it is fleshed out.
Thanks for your attention (and hard work ;) )
Greg. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Gregorator (talk • contribs) 20:34, 9 December 2006 (UTC).
Follow Up/Reply - Hi Again Jim,
Thanks for the promptness ;) I appreciate your getting the text back. You can forget about the page as it was, I decided to go for a rename with underscore since the underscores make the title look better. I hope you don't mind the "bypass".
Your pointing out the "Qwebec" thing was appreciated as, that being the actual name of the Expo (play on words: qWEBec) I should have pointed out it takes place in the province of Quebec, traditionally, to avoid confusion.
Thanks Again!
Greg
Ruddy Shelduck
May I ask why the information I added regarding the York mascot was removed from the Ruddy Shelduck page? Child of Albion 21:24, 9 December 2006 (UTC)
- Ok, I am now aware of previous edits, but there hasn't been any discussion of the issue so I find it hard to see how its the mutual decision of various editors. In fact if there have been people editing it before surely its not the unanimous decision. Besides, I should not have to take anything to arbitration - that has always been a last resort on wikipedia. Misplaced Pages works by consensus. Child of Albion 14:57, 10 December 2006 (UTC)
Reassuring
That you go for the part edits like thaat - I am just about to get the mud in the face over trying to disambiguate hte Peter Careys of the english speaking world - so it looks like I better do a better bit of work in my sandbox first! SO it will be back - otherwise the dsiambig issue with the other peter carey will have been pointless ! Oh well have a good day/life whatever SatuSuro 07:20, 10 December 2006 (UTC)
- Hey no I was trying to compliment you - in the deep dark past I used to do regular random page search for the ones that got away - hehe - but I have more to contribute these days (as I say to my local friends . thread number 1,234 etc) - but yeah - more power to reccent change blunderbuss with both barrells I say - keep the good work up! My sandboxx is due a oversize tag soon - its clear I should clear it out and use it more! cheers! SatuSuro 07:31, 10 December 2006 (UTC)
