Genus: Alfamovirus
Type species
Alfalfa mosaic virus

Alfamovirus is a genus of viruses, in the family Bromoviridae. Plants serve as natural hosts. There are currently only one species in this genus: the type species Alfalfa mosaic virus. Diseases associated with this genus include: mosaics.

Taxonomy

Group: ssRNA(+)

Order: Unassigned

Structure

Viruses in the genus Alfamovirus have bacilliform geometries. The diameter is around 18 nm. Genomes are linear and segmented, tripartite.

Genus Structure Symmetry Capsid Genomic arrangement Genomic segmentation
Alfamovirus Bacilliform Non-enveloped Linear Segmented

Life cycle

Viral replication is cytoplasmic. Entry into the host cell is achieved by penetration into the host cell. Replication follows the positive stranded RNA virus replication model. Positive stranded rna virus transcription, using the internal initiation model of subgenomic rna transcription is the method of transcription. The virus exits the host cell by tubule-guided viral movement. Plants serve as the natural host. Transmission routes are mechanical.
