The Ideal Scout

Good job, creating The Ideal Scout. It was deserving of its own article, and doing so nicely cleaned up the R. Tait McKenzie article. BoringHistoryGuy (talk) 00:25, 18 February 2012 (UTC)

DYK for Local councils of the Boy Scouts of America

Updated DYK queryOn 16 March 2013, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Local councils of the Boy Scouts of America, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that the majority of local councils of the Boy Scouts of America have gone through thousands of name changes, merges, splits and re-creations since the establishment of the organization in 1910? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Local councils of the Boy Scouts of America. You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and it will be added to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.

Speedy deletion nomination of Beach Bunny Swimwear

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Beach Bunny Swimwear requesting that it be speedily deleted from Misplaced Pages. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organization or company, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Misplaced Pages's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, you can place a request here. Talpatra (talk) 14:59, 21 March 2014 (UTC)

Your submission at AfC Camp Lambec was accepted

Camp Lambec, which you submitted to Articles for creation, has been created.
The article has been assessed as Stub-Class, which is recorded on the article's talk page. You may like to take a look at the grading scheme to see how you can improve the article.

You are more than welcome to continue making quality contributions to Misplaced Pages. Note that because you are a logged-in user, you can create articles yourself, and don't have to post a request. However, you may continue submitting work to Articles for Creation if you prefer.

Thank you for helping improve Misplaced Pages!

Speedy deletion declined: Girl Scouts Eastern Washington & Northern Idaho

Hello Evrik. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Girl Scouts Eastern Washington & Northern Idaho, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: None of the reasons for G6 appear to be met. Please go to WP:RFD instead. Thank you. Jackmcbarn (talk) 16:14, 14 November 2014 (UTC)

Fisheaters.com

Thanks for the heads-up about what's going on on the Blacklist page. I don't get this, though. I don't understand why they have it in for the Fisheaters website. It's the only traditional site like it on the itnernet, it's been around forever, it gets used by priests, gets used in RCIA classes, has been cited in books. Something isn't right here. Will you go to the Whitelist page and argue for an unblocking? The URL is: https://en.wikipedia.org/MediaWiki_talk:Spam-whitelist#Fisheaters.com_.28One_Page.29_-_One_Article:_Entry_.22Traditional_Catholicism.22 Thanks! Schoemann (talk) 11:34, 1 January 2015 (UTC)

Thanks, Evrik. Something really shaky is going on. Check this out: the woman who runs Fisheaters says this about her site and Misplaced Pages: go to Fisheaters.com/wikipedia2.html And now Chabad has 2,118 links from Wiki: https://en.wikipedia.org/search/?title=Special:LinkSearch&limit=500&offset=2000&target=http%3A%2F%2F*.Chabad.org Why would they allow 2,118 links from Chabad but not one from a traditional Catholic website, and that because they say it "spammed" Wiki (when, if what the Fisheaters lady is saying is true, there were no rules against adding links to your own website!)? Does Misplaced Pages have a serious Catholic problem? It seems that way, and I'm starting to get angry about it. I don't know if you're Catholic or not or whether you have a dog in this fight, but even if you're not and you don't, simple fairness demands something be done about this.

This is kind of scary if you stop and think about it. Misplaced Pages is the biggest thing on the internet, the first thing people see if they use Google to search for anything, and it seems to be very anti-Catholic and very pro-Hassidic. This makes me want to see how Israel-Palestine entries are handled. Schoemann (talk) 13:37, 3 January 2015 (UTC)

Your submission at Articles for creation: Camp Napowan (January 25)

Your recent article submission to Articles for Creation has been reviewed! Unfortunately, it has not been accepted at this time. The reason left by Tokyogirl79 was: This submission's references do not adequately evidence the subject's notability—see the general guideline on notability and the golden rule. Please improve the submission's referencing, so that the information is verifiable, and there is clear evidence of why the subject is notable and worthy of inclusion in an encyclopedia.
What you can do: Add citations (see Misplaced Pages:Referencing for beginners) to secondary reliable sources that are entirely independent of the subject. Please check the submission for any additional comments left by the reviewer. You are encouraged to edit the submission to address the issues raised and resubmit when they have been resolved. Museum hacks and museum edits

Hello there!

Upcoming events:

  • February 15: Wiki Loves Small Museums in Ocean City. Mary Mark Ockerbloom, with support from Wikimedia DC, will be leading a workshop at the Small Museum Association Conference on how they can contribute to Misplaced Pages. Tons of representatives from GLAM institutions will be present, and we are looking for volunteers. If you would like to help out, check out "Information for Volunteers".

I am also pleased to announce events for Wikimedia DC Black History Month with Howard University and NPR. Details on those events soon.

Resurrection of Southern California Task Force

After moving from Los Angeles County to Kern County to San Luis Obispo County, I am finally realizing that there is life in California outside of L.A. and San Francisco, where I lived and grew up. Oh, I have also lived in San Diego, San Bernardino, San Joaquin, Yolo and Sacramento counties, and I earned my undergraduate degree in Riverside County. I am trying to breathe life into the Southern California Task Force, and I hope you will join me. Could you visit our list of participants at the other end of this link and update your description of what you are interested in doing for us, assuming that you still want to be in the mix, that is.

In recompense, I will buy you a drink during the Misplaced Pages Welcome Week I am planning for Morro Bay on the Central Coast in July. Yours sincerely, BeenAroundAWhile (talk) 18:24, 3 May 2015 (UTC)

Nancy Navarro

I've spoken with User:Ad Orientem, and although he disagrees with the wisdom of doing this, he's OK with me userfying this for you. A couple of things first:

  • The AFD result still stands. Before restoring it to article space, I believe you'll need to get consensus to do so at WP:DRV. Alternately, you could ask AO to review the revised page in your user space, once you think it meets WP:NOTE; if he's OK with restoration, then I think you can probably skip DRV.
  • Personally, I kind of doubt you're going to be able to convince people she meets WP:NOTE. While userfication means you're welcome to try, please be aware that there's a decent chance the article won't be approved to restore to article space. You're spending your time on this at your own risk.
  • Stale drafts can't lie around in userspace for a long time. If you decide you don't want to pursue this after all, please let me know (or tag the article for speedy deletion) so it can be re-deleted.
  • Where do you want me to put this? I need to move the page for attribution reasons, I can't just copy the last version's text. The link you gave AO is to a talk page, and to a page that already has content. Can I move it to User:Evrick/draft3? Or somewhere else? --Floquenbeam (talk) 19:18, 12 September 2019 (UTC)
    • Hi @Floquenbeam: - FWIW, I don't want the old article with the history and such. Just the wikicode for the last version. Please feel free to copy the code here: User talk:Evrik/draft2. I understand everything else you have stated. Thank you. --evrik  20:00, 12 September 2019 (UTC)
      • But I can't really do that; the wikicode was created by others, listed in the history, so if you're going to use that to work off of, we need to attribute their work. If that ever goes back to mainspace, then we'd move it instead of copy/paste to preserve that history. --Floquenbeam (talk) 20:08, 12 September 2019 (UTC)
        • Yes, I understand. If I ever move the article back to the mainspace, I am going to ask that the article be undeleted, and then copy the code over as the latest version - thereby preserving the history. --evrik  20:12, 12 September 2019 (UTC)
          • If I just post the wikitext; then I've omitted attribution. I realize people do things much worse than that all the time, but still, I don't want to; I feel like it's disrespecting the people who've worked on the article, and (less important) it's against policy. 90% of the time userfication is dealt with by undeleting; the other 10% of the time it's done wrong. I'll be happy to move it as soon as you give me a target page name. --Floquenbeam (talk) 20:22, 12 September 2019 (UTC)
  • Draft3 is fine. Thanks. --evrik  20:23, 12 September 2019 (UTC)

Interesting, but why translate to Polish? Any relevance to Polish readers? In all honesty, it seems like an article that would get effectively zero views per year on pl wiki... Are you sure this is even notable for stand-alone article on en wiki? --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 04:04, 15 September 2019 (UTC)

Silver Buffalo

A few considerations here:

  • Have you checked the deletion log for Category:Recipients of the Silver Buffalo Award? In short, a disruptive sockpuppet tagged it as a recreation of the category deleted in the second CFD that you linked, but it was distinctly not the same as the previously deleted content, so I rejected the request. The sockpuppet then re-tagged it, and someone else deleted without caring that it was not the same.
  • If I just go and undelete it now, it will immediately be eligible to be tagged for C1 speedy deletion. This criterion, applicable to empty categories, can only be used if the category's been tagged for several days and never been un-emptied.
  • If you want to have the category, please populate it and then ask me to undelete it. I'm not inclined to undelete a long-deleted category merely because you're planning to populate it, since we all get distracted sometimes and forget to complete a project that we were planning. But if you fill it first, it won't qualify for C1, so I'll be happy undeleting it.
  • Be aware that these X-award-recipient categories are almost always deleted when they're taken to CFD, and generally the only exceptions are truly top-level awards, e.g. Category:Recipients of the Iron Cross and Category:Recipients of the Victoria Cross. If I undelete this category, someone almost certainly will take it to CFD before long, and it almost certainly will be deleted.

So while I'm willing to undelete the category if you wish, you're going to have to do the work, and your work will almost certainly be wasted. Nyttend (talk) 03:19, 20 September 2019 (UTC)

I'm reverting additions of this category, because the category does not exist. – Muboshgu (talk) 20:55, 20 September 2019 (UTC)
Muboshgu Ummm ... please read the above. --evrik  20:59, 20 September 2019 (UTC)
If there's no category, there's no adding it to pages. Don't unless it is undeleted. – Muboshgu (talk) 21:00, 20 September 2019 (UTC)
@Muboshgu: that is exactly the opposite of what was said by the admin who I asked to undelete the category. Please read above. Perhaps, as an admin, you can undelete the category, and the restore all the work you undid? Thanks. --evrik  21:02, 20 September 2019 (UTC)
I wouldn't bother adding the category back to pages unless it gets undeleted. SNUGGUMS (talk / edits) 22:23, 20 September 2019 (UTC)
Now restored. As I noted, this is almost certain to be taken to CFD and almost certain to be deleted there, but since it was deleted under a criterion that didn't apply, it's only fair for me to accept your request. Nyttend (talk) 01:07, 21 September 2019 (UTC)
@Nyttend: , thanks. Category:Recipients of the Silver Buffalo Award now has more than 300 entries. --evrik  20:26, 25 September 2019 (UTC)

pot calling kettle black

So as to avoid an edit war on this article, let's discuss it here or on the article's talk page. I cannot find mention of hypocrisy for this proverb/idiom in standard reference works: Brewer, Roget, Oxford Dictionary of Proverbs. Looking up hypocrisy, I find it listed in Roget under "deception" with reference to different idioms: a wolf in sheep's clothing and a whited sepulchre. There is a different between pretending to be what one is not and accusing someone of the very faults that one possesses. From the point of view of format, discussion of psychological projection and any alternative meaning properly belongs in the body of the article, not the lede. The burden of proof rests on you and requires a scholarly reference, not the sort of opinion piece you have supplied. Sweetpool50 (talk) 06:56, 26 September 2019 (UTC) The reference in question:

... actually uses the word hypocrisy as part of its explanation on the term. There are other sources as well. Would you like me to list them? --evrik  14:40, 26 September 2019 (UTC)

I just read your note on my talk page. I was slightly confused at first, because while I did rollback your mass tagging of:

When I used the tool, it was because I saw your widespread edits as misguided editor and were unhelpful to the encyclopedia. I know the rules. I had thought I left a note here Talk:Greater New York Councils. However, the comments I had thought were there are not there now. In any case, I could have "undone" them, or gone back to an earlier version ... and now I have left my comments on the talk page, and will now go address them here, Misplaced Pages:Files_for_discussion#October_27. Thanks. --evrik  17:22, 30 October 2019 (UTC)

You should know better – I'm an admin, not some misguided editor. Five files is not widespread either. I typically review 60–100 non-free files per day and tag about ~15% for deletion. Also this is the second time you have modified one of my FFD nominations. Don't do that. — JJMC89(T·C) 04:17, 31 October 2019 (UTC)

  • The fact that they were published in the magazine, and were part of thta magazine's series on science fiction makes the connection. It's even mentioned in the article. --evrik  15:56, 5 May 2020 (UTC)
  • I understand that the stories appeared in Boys Life, and that Boys Life is the official magazine of the scouts. But that is such a weak connection that it doesn't justify putting the articles about the stories in a category about scouting. The stories have absolutely nothing at all to do with scouting -- the lead character isn't a scout, for instance. The category isn't meant to be a game of six degrees of separation. (They're not science fiction stories, by the way.) Richard75 (talk) 00:25, 6 May 2020 (UTC)
  • They were published in the BSA magazine for scouts. It says so in the article. That's a pretty strong connection. --evrik  00:37, 6 May 2020 (UTC)
Um, no. Not even close to 3RR. Thanks for the laugh. The templates are appropriate as they stories were published in the magazine as part of a long running series. Please leave the templates there. Thanks! --evrik  17:14, 19 May 2020 (UTC)
First of all: I didn't mention WP:3RR as something for you to laugh at; it was a warning, as such activity is irritating. It suggests a lack of willingness to work with other editors. You've been here long enough to know that edit-warring is unwanted; I would have thought you'd recognize it when you saw it. Or did it.
However, your edits to Talk:The Disappearing Man and Other Mysteries where you set, restored, again restored and again re-restored an unwanted project template look like edit-warring to me. I (really!) don't want to drag an admin over to look at your edits, but if you can't work collaboratively, that's a move I'll have to make.
Second: The WikiProject Scouting template is really inappropriate for these pages. Richard75 said above that it's "a very tenuous connection", and I think he was being generous. The stories
  • are not about scouts,
  • are not written by a scout (AFAICT),
  • say nothing about scouting,
  • are not known to notably be read around campfires at camporees, nor
  • have anything, whatsoever, in any way at all, to do with scouting except for the tiny fact that they were printed in Boys' Life.
The fact that something appears in the monthly magazine of the BSA does not automatically make it Scouts-only or relevant to WikiProject Scouting. Boys' Life includes (or has included) material about chess, weather clouds, jokes, video games, cars, fishing equipment, drugs, and many more diverse items. Do you intend to add this template to the Talk page for Chess? Bobby Fischer (who wrote the Boys' Life column)? Earth Day? I hope not, but the logic is the same as adding it to these stories' pages.
I hope you'll remove the templates yourself, and leave them off. Thanks, — JohnFromPinckney (talk) 20:26, 19 May 2020 (UTC)
    • Before you mention 3rr again, I suggest you read the definition. The changes you're talking about were weeks ago, and the issue wasn't raised at the time. I disagree with your interpretation. If you want to discuss this further, why don't you open a discussion on the talk page, and we can discuss it there. --evrik  20:35, 19 May 2020 (UTC)

heads up re: infobox at St. Lawrence (restaurant)

Hey, just a heads up, I've removed the infobox you added to the article. The omission of one was intentional; I don't feel the ibox adds anything that isn't already stated in the (rather short) lead, and it squashes the picture. ♠PMC(talk) 01:06, 6 June 2020 (UTC)

Pill mill - thank you!

Dear Evrik,

Thank you very much for your work in the article Pill mill. I had written it in German and put it into the de.wikipedia.org. Then I translated it for the en.wikipedia.org. Sometimes this is not very easy because the templates differ from each other. Thanks also for suggesting this "newcomer" for the "did you know" section.

Best regards from Hamburg, Germany.

Speedy deletion nomination of File:Angela Dorian playboy cover May 1968.jpg

A tag has been placed on File:Angela Dorian playboy cover May 1968.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Misplaced Pages. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the file appears to be a blatant copyright infringement of https://www.cbsnews.com/news/angela-dorian-picture-1968-playboy-playmate-charged-with-attempted-murder-says-report/. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. Misplaced Pages takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the image belongs to you, and you want to allow Misplaced Pages to use it — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Misplaced Pages:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Misplaced Pages:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Misplaced Pages's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Misplaced Pages's policies and guidelines. Talk page formatting

Hey, this edit doesn't seem to follow WP:THREAD, since it inserted a newer comment before an older one and added an extra indentation level. That could be misleading for readers who are following the talk page and need to know which reply goes to what, so I fixed it. Benny White (talk) 03:05, 19 June 2020 (UTC)

  • Benny White I was very clearly inserting my comment to answer another point. I have redone my comments, and tried to make the thread clearer. Thanks for pointing out the confusion. --evrik  03:54, 19 June 2020 (UTC)
  • No problem! These long talk threads do get unwieldy. The second edit did still insert a newer reply between existing ones, which WP:TPO doesn't recommend (at least I think that's what it means by interleaving), but it's clearer than before. Thanks. Benny White (talk) 05:03, 20 June 2020 (UTC)
